I don't think that's a matter of forgetting complaints and paying. I think that's a matter of being presented sufficient value through library depth that justifies the price to more people.

And the issue I have is Nintendo put so little effort/is so incompetent regarding online matters that they couldn't even manage that for me. For $20.

I don’t really find any value but the family subscription helps. I’ve given 5 others 12 months more to play games online

I agree that having to pay at all for online play on a console is kind of scummy, I'm enough of a realist though to understand that the time to protest it was when Microsoft launched Xbox Live originally. When PSN+ was introduced on the PS4 that was another chance for the public to collectively say "Hey, wait a second... No, this isn't right at all." But it didn't happen then either, and Nintendo took notice. Suddenly a paywall blocking online multiplayer on consoles was an industry standard with Nintendo being the outlier.

By that point the Wii had already lost most of it's player base. How many homes have a wii that just collects dust, and it's been doing so since a few months after the system came out? The Wii U likely was going to be where Nintendo jumped into the Paid Online Multiplayer pool, but that system flopped hard. So they pushed such plans onto the Switch instead.

I'd like to think the one year delay in rolling out NSO's subscription requirements was because they hadn't ironed out all the kinks with the various features yet. I'd like to think that, but I can't. My cynicism looks at the game list at launch, the game list by September 2017, and by now, and tells me "They were waiting till there was a strong enough library of online multiplayer games that people will feel the need to subscribe once a pay wall is added."

That highly cynical idea holds too much weight for me to discount it. I strongly suspect it's true. If Splatoon 2 had been a day one launch title I suspect NSO would have been a paid service from the get go.

Okay then, wasn't really out to formally complain. I just wanted to have a bit of fun. I remember when these kinds of threads were allowed to stay open for a while just for a good time. Everyone is so serious now as if it actually impacts our lifes or something...

A piece of the Triforce appeared before you! (>'.')> Touch it now!

Hahahaha Fils-a-Mech. Nice short story. Probably closed so the fumers can be contained to as few threads as manageable, really.

@skywake
I don't have much else to go on outside comments and videos =/ I suppose there's the like to dislike ratio of Nintendo's video specifically talking about the service.

@FaeKnight
1.) I feel paying for online is a standard we allowed companies to get away with, since X-box was the only one doing it, until the PS4 and Switch.

2.) The industry standard for voice-chat, is what we have with X-box, PS, and Steam. What they are doing is giving an alternative to Discord, Skype and TeamSpeak, which we do not need as those apps are superior (least Discord is) and free.
You can send text messages through X-box and PS, not "text" messages like with the phone, but like what I'm doing here.

3.) I'll give you that. Though I feel it should be more updated games like GameCube.

4.) I can say Nintendo's is inferior and there is a standard. X-box covers all games for free, without Gold. PS covers all games, but with Plus. Nintendo only covers some games, with its paid service.

5.) From what I'm seeing on Nintendo's home page, you get some items in Splatoon 2...The others offer discounts for games.
Side-note: If one person has Gold or Plus, everyone on that console gets it without any additional charge.

Being able to play online should not be a bonus perk.

Technically, it should be free, but the rage comes from how utterly under-whelming and disappointing it is. I also feel I have been fairly constructive in my argument against the service. I pointed out why its bad and where it should be to be worth buying.

@BMO_Advanced To be honest, I'm not surprised the thread got locked. It comes across as a thinly veiled rant about how Nintendo is "Ruining Everything". Mind you, what you describe would be very illegal.

But the real reason the thread got locked was because the mods are consolidating the 100+ threads on a given topic (say "Nintendo Switch Online subscription service") into one thread, especially since the 100+ threads are all typically saying the same exact thing.

When is the launch date for Nintendo Switch Online people?

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

1UP_MARIO

@DannyBoi it’s on The Nintendo website from your region

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

09/19/18 everywhere. Yes, technically on 09/18/18 for US, but that's after eShop maintenance set to end at 11PM Eastern, downloading the 6.0.0 update, and signing up the sub.

So it launches in the UK on a Wednesday then. Nintendo Life have said in 2 articles it launches Thursday. But it is a Wednesady.

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

I wanted to love this service, but there is just nothing compelling for me here at all.
I never take my Switch out of my home, so cloud saves are not useful (not to mention, they should be free).
I own all of the NES games that I want on Wii/Wii U already, in addition to a Raspberry Pi and the NES Classic, so having them here as well is not terribly interesting for me.
The fact that there is still no basic voice chat offered on the system itself, or messaging, etc is unbelievable as well.
I have been burned out on Splatoon 2 for a long time now, and the only game I play online is Rocket League, which I could just buy on Steam for $20 or less and play online for free at a much better resolution and performance in general.

What they would need to do to get me to buy this would be:
1. Offer SNES, GCN and Wii games as part of the subscription.
2. Offer integrated voice chat on the actual system, not the BS phone app...
3. Offer legitimately awesome rewards with those "special offers" thing that they chose to reveal nothing about...

Once those things (or at least 1 & 2) are offered, I'll be on board.

In the meantime, I can use the $35 I would have spent on this to get Dead Cells and Into the Breach, and beat OctoPath Traveler as well as the Octo Expansion to Splatoon 2.

What does clearing the cache do on my NintendoSwitch?

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

FaeKnight

@KevinLo9 Out of curiosity, why would you have been spending $35 if it's just for yourself? The one year sub for a single person is $20.

Clearing the cache
Applies to: Nintendo Switch

When you do things like link a Nintendo Account or post screenshots to social networks, websites will be displayed on the console.

You can delete the data stored for these websites, including IDs and passwords, cookies, history and the cache, for each user on the Nintendo Switch console.

How to clear the cache
Open System Settings on the HOME Menu, then select System ⇒ Formatting Options ⇒ Clear Cache.

1UP_MARIO

@KevinLo9 how can you expect gamecube and Wii games for 17.99 per year

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

1UP_MARIO

@KevinLo9 Wii games on the Wii u eshop cost 17.99 each. This whole service cost 17.99 per year with extras although everyone won’t find the same value for what you get. Main point of the service is if you wanna play online, you gotta get the service

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

DannyBoi

@HobbitGamer Will clearing the cache delete save data?

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.
