@skywake @Grumblevolcano @Eel @FishyS @Fizza I wonder if we'll get a second update again this month like we got in July? If so we're long overdue for SNES games being added to the service. I'd say Genesis too, but I'm unsure if Sega is even supporting NSO anymore. In a dream update I'd definitely like to see maybe 2-3 great third party games each for SNES and Genesis added, but won't hold my breath for Genesis titles.

@WiiWareWave I think more Rare games. Push Square and Pure Xbox have reported about more Xbox 1st party games coming to PS5 like Forza Horizon 5 but they seem more like Switch 2 than Switch 1 potential candidates so I figure on the Nintendo side it'll be more Rare games for NSO.

I would like to point out that we are close to having double the N64 games on NSO that Virtual Console ever had on Wii.

This alone makes NSO feel like a success to me. It's still missing a few of the ones I want most (Mischief Makers, Rayman 2, Diddy Kong Racing, various Konami games), but its much better for N64 games than any system since N64.

So I just did some looking up of NSO Mega Drive/Genesis games and according to Wikipedia, there hasn’t been a single game added to that library since June 2023. Has Nintendo given up on that platform?

Interesting. Going down the list, these Wii VC N64 games aren't yet on NSO:

  • Bomberman Hero
  • Crus'n USA
  • Ogre Battle 64
  • Super Smash Bros

And these NSO titles weren't on the Wii VC:

  • Banjo Kazooie
  • Banjo Tooie
  • Blast Corps
  • Dr Mario 64
  • Excitebike 64
  • Extreme-G
  • Goldeneye 007
  • Harvest Moon 64
  • Iggy's Reckin' Balls
  • Jet Force Gemeni
  • Perfect Dark
  • Pilotwings 64
  • Pokemon Stadium
  • Pokemon Stadium 2
  • Shadow Man
  • Turok
  • Turok 2
  • Winback

...... it's pretty crazy when you actually look through the list like this

Yeah, Wii Virtual Console was great in a lot of ways, especially for the time, but when you get to N64 none of that 3rd party support is there for it. I assume because N64 was both less popular and tougher to emulate.

Should also point out the two Wii U N64 VC games still not on NSO, Bomberman 64 and DK 64.

Eel

I was editing some footage and realized they recently changed the borders of the NSO apps, at least in the GBC one. The borders around the gameplay are ever so slightly darker now.

Edit: actually compared to previous footage, the entire thing seems to have brighter colors and better contrast?

I don’t think I’ve changed any settings in my setup that would affect this (or like changed anything at all)… so it must be the app itself… right…?

When will the November games likely be announced?

@Don I think by the 22nd, considering both DKC and DK64 have big anniversaries very soon (DKC November 18th, DK64 November 22nd) it feels like November's NSO releases will be DK focused.

DK 64 will be an excellent choice for NSO. Will definitely play it again although I did finish the game previously on the Wii U virtual console. After DK 64 I think the only other big Rareware N64 titles missing from NSO are Diddy Kong Racing and Conker’s Bad Fur Day.

Donkey Kong Land! Finally! Now they just need to add it to Nintendo Music

They shadow dropped DK Land 2. Maybe DK Land 3 is within the next few days?

Next up it's Genesis/Mega Drive (first wave since June 2023) being shadow dropped:

  • ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron
  • Vectorman
  • Wolf of the Battlefield: Mercs
