The NES launch lineup is a bit lame. How many people are honestly going to play most of those sports games?
Regarding the online service, I’ll get it if only for the cloud saves.
Honestly, I'll play Tecmo Bowl to death and back happily if it's an enhanced version of the original and not the watered down version released on xbox. Creating a brand new team filled with new players, then running the team through seasons in Coach mode IMO was great fun. Seeing how your created team develops was one of the best aspects of the game. And the Xbox 'updated' version of the game stripped that out entirely.
Not bad at a pace of 3/mo. That’s that’s 36 in a year for almost $0.50 each.
I was thinking the same about the controller; blister city. I got a bit of a callous last weekend from playing Other M haha.
Buuuut... That could only mean that SNES games and controllers are coming too, based on this product and the 6.0 icons

Maybe, who knows? One can hope though. If they do release SNES games onto the service and have a members only SNES controller bundle you can buy, that one I'll definitely want. I liked the SNES controller. It too could induce blisters on thumbs, but not quite as badly as the NES controller did.
Looks like I may need to invest in a Joy Con charging dock in the near future. 2 sets of joy con (multiplayer in Civ 6 and a few other games when visiting my dad), SNES controllers (maybe), possibly the NES controllers but I'm not that sold on them...
The direct was absolutely incredible. Except for this. This was stupid garbage. I'm of the opinion that most NES games aren't worth paying more than a dollar for anymore. Super Mario Bros should basically be free at this point, since it's mostly just a historical relic that represents something huge.
And before someone says "well you are given more than 20 games, isn't that worth 20 dollars?". It is, but I have no interest in those games myself. It would be like trying to sell the DC universe streaming service to people who hate superheroes.
It's going to take a lot of willpower, but I think I can hold off of Splatoon for at least a while.
The Switch Online bit of the direct was... underwhelming. They briefly showed what may be a few more titles for the NES aspect. But other then that they basically just told us the same thing the website already did.
EDIT: I guess they have updated the website with the missing information now. So there is that.
It was only underwhelming if you thought Nintendo would have any surprises. Nintendo showed exactly what they have said would be in the sub.
Thinking about it, in the long run the subscription for games will probably be an amazing deal. Once we get some really good SNES and N64 multiplayer games in particular.
Still should be it's own service, because online gaming for actual Switch titles should still be free.
Notice how the NES controllers and exclusive Splatoon 2 gear are under 'Special Offers, get exclusive members only deals.'
Looks like this is what they mean by deals for members rather than actual discounts. Although I'm sure Switch games will be added to MyNintendo eventually, they likely won't be limited to online subscribers.
$20 just for the aforementioned NES titles (which I could, again, just plug in the NES Classic into my TV), the shoddy (again, aforementioned) cloud saves, and abysmal and what will likely be sporadic, odd discounts/special offers...? Eeeeeeh, come on, Nintendo, you can do better than that. For right now, you aren't quite winning my $20 over juuuuuust yet.

I wouldn't count on them coming to the switch for a while.
People keeps being confident that SNES and even N64 games will come. I don't think so. They don't say it, and that would be a strong selling point, so why not saying it? Because it's not going to happen.
I guess I'll eventually subscribe, but maybe not from day one. I hardly play online, I haven't even booted Mario Kart 8 since last year, play mostly on-the-go (so no internet connection) and I'll wait to see what are the discounts we'll get, probably a 10% more in weekly sales. I mean there's no benefit in paying from day one, right? We can wait and see.
There seem to be no restrictions on who will be able to form a Family Group and utilize the Family Membership (other than the admin/payer will have to be over 18 and have a credit card).
If 8 people form a group, then the online service will cost $4.40 for a year per person.
Should/could we make a forum topic for forming Family Groups between NintendoLife members?
