@Zuljaras: Yeah, I wasn't overly fond of their designs either. I was more entranced by the past/future aspects of the two "versions" than anything else. XD
And yeah, I'll admittedly take Turtwig over Popplio any day.

I dunno. Snivy's line is so 'simple' (almost boring), and Chespin's I can sort of see, but I'm so indifferent to. I don't find her pleasant to look at.
If we're listing off "least favorite" starters....
Gen 1: I like or love them all, though I'm least likely to start with Squirtle.
Gen 2: Chikorita. It isn't bad, but I always preferred the designs of the other two lines.
Gen 3: I like or love them all, though I'm least likely to use Mudkip.
Gen 4: The Methane-Monkey-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named & its younger stages.
Gen 5: Oshawott and Dewott. I somewhat like Samurott's design, but the other two? No thanks.
Gen 6: Chespin, though I'm not horribly fond of any of the starter designs and evos other than Greninja.
Gen 7: ...Sorry, but I don't ever foresee myself using Popplio.

Actually, can anyone tell me what happened with the Oshawott and Chespin lines? Samurott looks nothing like Oshawott or Dewott, and Chesnaught looks nothing like Chespin or Quilladin.
Actually, I'm very glad for Samurott. Oshawott has grown on me itself, but Dewott I've never really cared for. It's just... cheesy. And honestly, the direction that the line was going with Dewott was leading toward something abominable like Incineroar. Whereas Samurott, while being different from its pre-evolutions, is actually one of my top favorite final starter evolutions, if not my favorite overall.
5th gen's starters as a whole were pretty terrible. All three of them have generic type combos that we've already seen multiple times (Fire/Fighting which was done for 3 times in a row, and the others are just pure Grass and pure Water, no creativity in these type combos whatsoever), Oshawott's design screams "Piplup 2.0", the final forms are really bizarre and drastically different from their earlier forms. All 3 of them are duds IMO. I'd like the Snivy line more if it were Grass/Dragon, and it's not too late for that to happen, but in general they're all just so bland and uncreative.
I don't dislike many starters or their evos, but I do dislike a couple. I think my favorites are the Gen 3 and 4 starter lines, and I think Gen 5 is probably the one I find myself being the most bleh to as of late.
I did enjoy the looks of those fake starter pokemon with the Lemur, Rabbit and Platypus.
I hope that there will be a separate Pokémon Stadium-esque mode, where players (especially for guests/parties) can duke it out with any Pokémon of their choosing (better still if triple/rotation battles return, or even chaotic 6v6 battles). An added tournament mode for virtually limitless players would be amazing (though I would imagine that initalising the tournament, unless Pokémon are chosen from preset combinations, would be really time consuming).
Hell, they can sell this concept off as its own separate game once per generation and I won't take issue with it considering the amount of work involved, and it's not realistic to expect grander and grander outings for less.
If nothing else, I would LOVE a local multiplayer mode, where multiple profiles on the same Switch console can battle each other.
Some form of local couch/tabletop multiplayer is a must for Pokémon Switch, and if that means a late 2019 release, then so bloody be it.
Agreed on the Gen 5 starters, which was a shame since Gen 5 was, overall, one of the better generations IMO. I suspect the glut of Pokemon strained the idea train, and it shows (That's not to say that I dislike all Gen 5 designs; I do have my favorites). Snivy's line is my favorite of that group of starters, but I agree that it not being Grass/Dragon was a missed opportunity. It could learn Dragon Tail, plus it was based on a reptile.... Tepig was cute, but Fire/Fighting got stale with Gen 4. Oshawott's only redeeming quality is that Samurott looks halfway decent.

@sillygostly That's an interesting point to think about, I think the only 1st party Switch games so far without any single Switch local multiplayer are BotW, Xenoblade 2 and Splatoon 2 of which the first 2 don't have any multiplayer.
