@Grumblevolcano Eh.. I don't think there will be that many of them. I'm not sure how successful these will be. Though considering it's Pokemon, it probably will be. Maybe we'll see another one or two of them, but it really feels to me like a one-off project to cash in on the GO crowd (I assume that's their thinking at least), and to keep up their one release per year quota.
I think the games are too similar too the mainline games to exist alongside each other. It's just a few silly decisions that make these games sound like watered down versions.
Well, to be fair, the "Core Experience" Pokemon game is coming next year, while this year's is aimed at casuals.
I have an issue with this line of thinking, not in small part because it low-key justifies the changes GF makes to these games.
Pokémon is not Divinity —hell, it's not MegaTen, even—, the games have been casual-friendly since day 1. There's a difference between making the games accessible for everyone and dumbing them down feature-wise. Removing HMs can be seen as a way to modernize the overworld (there's room for debate there though), speeding up the presentation always makes the games more user-friendly, and not throwing modular features onto the player in the early game would help not scaring new players away. De-linking systems that are already in place in the game just for the sake of offering less options (no wild Pokémon battles) is a genuine dumb-down, you have to give your audience some credit at some point.
^This. Pokemon games have always been a more casual experience, with the option for depth if you so choose it.
The change to the Pokemon GO wild battle system turns me off this game more than anything else. Basically the whole game will feel like a Safari Zone now. No more nuance, it's just RNG now.
Since pokemon go is terribly unoptimized and will heat and drain any phone I try it on (and it can only work on data), this might be a nice actually-playable-actually-a-game version of it for many people.
@Octane I think it'll do very well with the limiting factor if any being how well Nintendo handles Switch hardware stock over the holidays. Hardware stock could get to 2006/2007 Wii levels if Nintendo's not careful thanks to the combination of Smash, Pokemon and possibly Animal Crossing.
You know. I quite like Colosseum (XD not so much), and that game didn't have wild Pokemon battles at all. And I think that the art style looks pretty good. But I also liked Colosseum because it was difficult. With all the Pokemon GO pandering, what are the chances that these games will actually be challenging?
Can we drop Animal Crossing talk considering there isn't even bloody rumours going around that it exists?
Every time someone mentions it I get to file them under "Mother 3 hopefuls" for something that is inevitable yes, but the more you say "ITS THIS YEAR RIGHT?" the more of an ass you look each successive year.

@Yosheel Well to be honest at this point we should just list out every franchise ever made and gradually hype ourselves up without anything of any substance existing just so we can be disappointed at each successive event and reveal because what WE personally hoped for isn't there despite nothing saying it would be except delusions.
It was also this bad for Smash and the constant "Announce it already". Yes it's coming but be patient for the love of Earth! XD You'd think Nintendo fans would be accustomed to waiting a lot after the Wii U.
But that's also my disdain for leaks showing. I'm sick of it.

@Octane That's the thing. Wild Pokemon battles aren't necessary, but Let's Go are far more in rigid compliance with convention than the Gamecube RPGs ever were. The art style alone is so much safer.
So, the trailer confirms that Pokemon have CP, like they have in Pokemon GO. I wonder if they'll ditch all the stats and reduce it to Attack, Defense and Stamina, cause that's what they have in GO IIRC.
Also not being able to evolve your starter and dressing them up instead, I totally called that one lol!
@Haru17 Well, no it's fine for a spin-off, but I do think they're part of the experience; EV-training wouldn't be possible without them.
@Haru17 That would be the case... if it wasn't for the fact that they future proofed themselves by developing HD quality models back for X/Y. It's been known for a long time that the models were always expected to be used in HD applications like future Pokemon games, all they need is improved textures (which may or may not already exist, we don't know.) and shaders (which are global, not model specific).
