@darkfenrir I haven't gotten to the 10-long restaurant fight yet; I've heard it's hard. I can certainly understand that one Pokemon wouldn't last that long.
How we feeling about the 1000 (one thousand, yes really) battle requirement for the shiny charm..?
70 hours (don't ask, although I WAS sick/off work for the past week), done all side quests before postgame, four ticket matches into the postgame battling with a few nights of fighting here and there. I have 450 or so.
Legitimately makes me second guess if I want the charm at all lol
For me personally finding the time for that would be difficult if not impossible and tbh by the time I reach that requirement I would likely be burnt out on the game anyway. Nothing I hate more in a game than countless hours of repetition.
It's lucky I never believed the whinge-fest about this game and instead took the plunge and bought the game to see for myself. I'm really enjoying it at nearly 10 hours in.
The simultaneous battle format I'm really enjoying - it streamlines the fights in a good way that they don't become tedious.
The city setting is one I'm also enjoying - my play-time of the game isn't what others here have, but I feel like there's a bit to explore. I particularly like the items on rooftops, across scaffolding and hidden down alleys.
I also love the hit of nostalgia you get at certain points. I won't spoil it for those who are yet to play, but one part in particular at the laboratory hit me right in the childhood and it was awesome to experience it again, albeit in a modern setting.
The complaint about the buildings not being detailed enough and whatever else to do with the graphics, I've barely even noticed as I've been that immersed in the game with my attention fixed on anything but. I grew up in the NES/SNES/N64 era, and can live with buildings not being works of art.
My hope is that the game doesn't become stale after several more hours of playing.
@Tendo64 There is definitely less exploration after a certain point. I wouldn't say the game gets stale exactly, but for me personally, the first 10 hours were probably the most fun. I'm still enjoying though.

Yeah, I'm like 60 hours in and 650ish battles done. I'm finding it a bit tedious, and I kind of wish there was something interesting for me to do to break it up. I'll run through a few wild areas to see if I can find a lucky shiny*, but it feels like I am wasting my time before I get the charm that I want to use to break up the tedium from getting it
It puts a bit of a sour end on the game, and I really think it wasn't a good idea. But I will enjoy shiny hunting once I manage to push through, I'm sure.

By finishing the main story, you should already be close to 450 battles.
Then doing the postgame, finishing the remaining Main quests, which require 20 infinite Royale battles, you should be well on your way closing the gap to 1000, if not already. Especially if you finish the entire night and have the right Pokemon, people report in easily able to win 50-60 battles per night phase.
That's less than 10 night phases to reach 1000 and if you do those 20 Infinite Royale matches, you only need to average 25 battles per night phase to reach 1000.
So, I honestly don't understand the complaint about the grind? Getting the shiny charm in Pokemon games has always been a huge grind. Especially in the older games where you couldn't see wild Pokemon and everything was RNG.
It literally took forever to complete the Pokedex for the charm, hence why I never got it in any game so far.
I personally think, getting the Shiny charm in Legends:Z-A is legit the easiest of all the Pokemon games and for me it will be the first time I might get it finally lol.
But I am not in a rush either. Its like people want to finish everything in a single night these days. Completely forgotten how hard and often insanely grindy games used to be.
@Jeronan Strong agree with all of that. The shiny charm is a "post-game" goal to work towards, and if it were too easy to obtain it, then people would likely complain about not having a post-game goal to begin with.
Shiny Pokémon have no stat benefits, it's purely cosmetic, so I honestly think it's perfectly fine that it might take a long time to attain the charm.
I am almost at rank C and only now did I find out, that I can use healing items during combat. A Slowpoke would be proud of me.
I learned that fairly late myself. I don't know if I was expecting an "items" button on screen or what, but I didn't see anything so I assumed you couldn't heal during battles... I didn't realize you literally just open up the main menu.
I've supp'd for months on naught but broth of bean
@charliecarrot
I felt pretty much the same. And when I tried to open the menu during a fight, I was probably not allowed to, because the opponent just hit my Pokémon or something like that. It is not always possible to open the menu. Well, at least now we know.
I'm sure this is a very old discussion considering the Pokemon in question has been around since Gen I and shinies were introduced in Gen II but...
Shiny Gengar is kinda disappointing. Just looks like a slightly desaturated regular Gengar.
I was really excited about my shiny Ghastly and I thought shiny Haunter looked so cool with the blue tongue. Got a friend who was able to trade back and forth to evolve my Haunter, but Shiny Gengar doesn't have the blue tongue?? Why???
Oh well, at least I have a shiny on my team for the first time ever.

@Rodolfo6493 Fair enough - I haven't actually had a chance to use its mega evolution yet, but I looked up images and I'm happy to see how distinct it is!

@Jeronan The difference is the grind used to be collect all of the Pokemon in the Pokedex. Which involved exploration, evolution and various different methods. This is a repetitive grind that is just do the same thing 1000 times.
My complaint is that it's locked behind something boring, not that it's difficult.

Ok, so in the old games, running back and forth in that same tiny patch of grass for hours (sometimes days) on end isn't boring and repetitive? lol.
Not to mention, when you get the Shiny charm... what you going to do then?
Oh wait..... yeah we then go Shiny hunting and doing the same repetitive action for hours/days on end to get that shiny Pokemon.
I am sorry, but for me, doing Royale battles is more fun and I am getting some rewards, cash and other stuff at the same time, then running back and forth a tiny patch of grass endlessly to get that rare Pokemon spawn for my Pokedex.
In the end, the problem is that people want everything NOW! And any same activity you doing many times in a row, will become boring and repetitive no matter how you look at it. Be it running back and forth the same patch of grass endlessly or doing many Royale battles endlessly.
Take your time, take a break... do some other activities in between, to break up the monotone.
That's why I find it hilarious how people keep praising Legends:Arceus is like the best Pokemon game and at the same time trashing Legends:Z-A... while for me, Legends:Arceus was the very definition of boring and repetitive and never managed to finish the game. While with Legends:Z-A I am doing my second play through now.
@Jeronan As for Arceus, there are repetitive optional quests, but they're optional so I just... didn't do them. tbh, 100%-ing most games is tedious so I rate how good a game is just doing a typical playthrough and beating the game without doing the optional parts which don't sound fun. As you said, I'm not sure why people are complaining in Z-A about purely optional side/post content which is grindy when they could just not do it.

The whole game of Legends:Arceus was repetitive.
The star ranking was doing the same repetitive tasks in your Pokedex (catching the same pokemon many times, battling it multiple times, etc) to unlock the next zone, etc.
The boss battles were the worst with just endless dodging and bag throwing.
Ironically, it were actually the optional side quests that were actually more fun at times for me and kept me going for a while, before I just stopped playing.
Legends:Z-A's Main Story is actually much better and interesting. Breaking up the story missions in different activities, like sudden side/deviation missions, the Rogue Mega Pokemon battles, Battle Royale ranking, etc.
On my first play through I focussed mostly on the Main Story, finished it and regretted in rushiung it a bit, so now on my Second play through I take my time to enjoy everything, including exploring the City, unlocking secret passage ways, the roofs, completing the Wild areas when new ones open up. Just breaking away from the Main Story as much as I can, to get an as diverse experience as possible and I am having even more of a blast now on my second play through. Even did some shiny hunting today and it must have been my lucky day, I got several shinies lol.
@Jeronan For the most part there was no reason to work on the star ranking; I just let it be whatever happened naturally (which was quite a lot), similarly to how I treat the Z-A science missions. Z-A research missions sound repetitive if you read them but not so much if you ignore them and let them finish when they finish.
I agree Z-A has a better story. Arceus had the setting for an amazing story but didn't really follow through. Although the bosses had little mini stories at least in Arceus.
In Z-A I loved the first few hours of finding all the secrets but after that it has mostly been battles which ... I enjoy less than Arceus battles. But that is personal preference.
Just finished the main story last night just under 40 hours. What a phenomenal final act! And the post credits deffo got me. X&Y got the send off they deserved which I don't think Z would have done so not getting that was a blessing in disguise! Loved all the callbacks, the characters were great, all the interior locations were genuinely amazing graphically, the sewers and lab might the best interior Pokemon ever has had.
Decided to leave dex completion and half the side quests to post game since wasn't sure how much there would be to do pre DLC.
I never did get bored of the setting, some wild zones though bit mixed on. The royale also being tied to story still not sure how I feel about that, as I thought that was gonna be a separate thread to the main story and rouges like SV did, so in the end I only did battle zones when I needed tickets.
Most Mega's were great, massive improvement over Gen 6 designs although one or two I think didn't stick the landing but that is okay as we got so many!
Excited for the post game and shiny hunting and bring DLC on, (I assume it will release on Pokemon day)
Battles, I loved them although towards the end it became less about strategy and more about all out attacks
