@charliecarrot
Yeah, little text labels would have been nice. But finding stuff on your own is also nice. I love to experience everything a game has to offer.

Am having fun with it so far, while the environments do lack a certain something (i do enjoy the interiors though, such as the hotel) i am still finding it fun to explore looking for stuff and catch pokemon and the act of training your pokemon and building your team is still as enjoyable for me as its ever been, combat also feels snappier with the real time elements though am curious to see how longer/more taxing battles play out (unsure if theres any tough post-game trainers/etc to fight)

Dont know how far i am into the game Canaria is my next opponent and ive just reached the rank to fight her but hoping theres a reasonable amount left since i feel like ive just hit my stride with it (maybe someone who finished could give a rough estimate on how far it it)

@Mgalens without spoilers I think that's roughly halfway through the story.

I'm Rank B now, and at this point I'm mostly running around completing side quests. There's so many!

I ran into two shiny Pokemon within 10 minutes of each other this morning, and I've never before caught any shiny in the wild in any Pokemon game. Pretty exciting.

I've supp'd for months on naught but broth of bean

I haven't had much time to play because of work but last night I found a Shiny Eevee. I wasn't even Shiny hunting at all, I was just running around doing side quests and catching Pokèmon then suddenly I heard that distinctive sound, I initially panicked as I couldn't find Eevee anywhere but I could hear him and after about 5 minutes of running around the area like a lunatic I managed to find him and catch him.

Just finished Z-A!! What a trip, that was awesome

Short review for the game:

Overall I think it's really solid game- I finished it in 30 hours, still having post game to do and stuff, and I think I can comfortably give it a 6 out of 7 score.

The gameplay is really fun, from the fight (I love how you pretty much can't just use one mon to completely overpower enemies because it's an action game. You will have cooldowns, you have to move etc.) to the stuff like exploration (i really love the verticality! The rooftops is great place to go through the city, and I enjoy going up and down lol)

And the story gosh. It's very fun, the characters are all incredibly charming. The finale is great, and I love what they did there!!

Overall, very recommended, love the game 😌

So far I am dominating basically everything except the boss fights with Talonflame. I may be slightly over-leveled from doing side quests 😅 But also Talonflame is naturally OP. So far I am using significantly less strategy than I would in a 2D game since you don't run out of ability uses - I would say that actually makes it easier for one Pokemon to dominate a ling series of fights.

How we feeling about the 1000 (one thousand, yes really) battle requirement for the shiny charm..?

70 hours (don't ask, although I WAS sick/off work for the past week), done all side quests before postgame, four ticket matches into the postgame battling with a few nights of fighting here and there. I have 450 or so.

Legitimately makes me second guess if I want the charm at all lol

It might be that I'm using slower mon, but I find that I naturally trade blows with enemies (especially when there's tons of fights- that 10-battle restaurant was full of decision making between keeping a mon up or changing the moment I saw what's the enemy throwing out)

@darkfenrir I haven't gotten to the 10-long restaurant fight yet; I've heard it's hard. I can certainly understand that one Pokemon wouldn't last that long.

For me personally finding the time for that would be difficult if not impossible and tbh by the time I reach that requirement I would likely be burnt out on the game anyway. Nothing I hate more in a game than countless hours of repetition.

It's lucky I never believed the whinge-fest about this game and instead took the plunge and bought the game to see for myself. I'm really enjoying it at nearly 10 hours in.

The simultaneous battle format I'm really enjoying - it streamlines the fights in a good way that they don't become tedious.

The city setting is one I'm also enjoying - my play-time of the game isn't what others here have, but I feel like there's a bit to explore. I particularly like the items on rooftops, across scaffolding and hidden down alleys.

I also love the hit of nostalgia you get at certain points. I won't spoil it for those who are yet to play, but one part in particular at the laboratory hit me right in the childhood and it was awesome to experience it again, albeit in a modern setting.

The complaint about the buildings not being detailed enough and whatever else to do with the graphics, I've barely even noticed as I've been that immersed in the game with my attention fixed on anything but. I grew up in the NES/SNES/N64 era, and can live with buildings not being works of art.

My hope is that the game doesn't become stale after several more hours of playing.

@Tendo64 There is definitely less exploration after a certain point. I wouldn't say the game gets stale exactly, but for me personally, the first 10 hours were probably the most fun. I'm still enjoying though.

Yeah, I'm like 60 hours in and 650ish battles done. I'm finding it a bit tedious, and I kind of wish there was something interesting for me to do to break it up. I'll run through a few wild areas to see if I can find a lucky shiny*, but it feels like I am wasting my time before I get the charm that I want to use to break up the tedium from getting it

It puts a bit of a sour end on the game, and I really think it wasn't a good idea. But I will enjoy shiny hunting once I manage to push through, I'm sure.

  • I have managed 4 full odds shinies so far.

By finishing the main story, you should already be close to 450 battles.

Then doing the postgame, finishing the remaining Main quests, which require 20 infinite Royale battles, you should be well on your way closing the gap to 1000, if not already. Especially if you finish the entire night and have the right Pokemon, people report in easily able to win 50-60 battles per night phase.
That's less than 10 night phases to reach 1000 and if you do those 20 Infinite Royale matches, you only need to average 25 battles per night phase to reach 1000.

So, I honestly don't understand the complaint about the grind? Getting the shiny charm in Pokemon games has always been a huge grind. Especially in the older games where you couldn't see wild Pokemon and everything was RNG.
It literally took forever to complete the Pokedex for the charm, hence why I never got it in any game so far.

I personally think, getting the Shiny charm in Legends:Z-A is legit the easiest of all the Pokemon games and for me it will be the first time I might get it finally lol.

But I am not in a rush either. Its like people want to finish everything in a single night these days. Completely forgotten how hard and often insanely grindy games used to be.

I am almost at rank C and only now did I find out, that I can use healing items during combat. A Slowpoke would be proud of me.

Still enjoying my time with Z-A.

I learned that fairly late myself. I don't know if I was expecting an "items" button on screen or what, but I didn't see anything so I assumed you couldn't heal during battles... I didn't realize you literally just open up the main menu.

@charliecarrot
I felt pretty much the same. And when I tried to open the menu during a fight, I was probably not allowed to, because the opponent just hit my Pokémon or something like that. It is not always possible to open the menu. Well, at least now we know.

I'm sure this is a very old discussion considering the Pokemon in question has been around since Gen I and shinies were introduced in Gen II but...

Shiny Gengar is kinda disappointing. Just looks like a slightly desaturated regular Gengar.

I was really excited about my shiny Ghastly and I thought shiny Haunter looked so cool with the blue tongue. Got a friend who was able to trade back and forth to evolve my Haunter, but Shiny Gengar doesn't have the blue tongue?? Why???

Oh well, at least I have a shiny on my team for the first time ever.
