Hello all and Merry Xmas! Santa got the Switch for my children, thanks grands I register myself as parent control and they got their names in the account one as MARIO and the other as LUIGI. I linked my parental account to MARIO but when I tried with the second it say only one account can be linked? When they start mario kart only MARIO is visible as name, the other is shown as PLAYER. What is the correct way to show both names?

@Tuscan72 oh, if you want to play under another name in Mario Kart 8, make another user profile on the Switch. Bottom of switch home screen, go to system settings, then "users", then add user.

When you open Mario Kart 8, it makes you choose which user to play as. The name only shows for online races or use local wireless to play against other switch consoles. But if you play multiplayer on one console, it will only say player 1,2,3 etc.

@Woomy_NNYes thanks for the useful info!! I created 2 profiles in the same console, one 'MARIO' the other 'LUIGI', when playing online Mariokart 8 only Mario is shown, the other appears as Player 🤔

@Tuscan72 I understand what you want. You're not missing a function. For offline play, split screen multiplayer it only show player 1, 2, 3. -never multpile names. Nintendo did that to keep the menus quick & simple. With families, kids, and friends, they want you to be able to start a game with as little fussing as possible to maximize playtime fun. After playing Mario Kart 8 for a while, you're probably going to wish all games & consoles were as quick as MK8

You only see other player profile names when playing against other switch consoles via online or local wifi. When you only have one console, when you load MK8 with he Luigi profile, you'll only ever see "Luigi".

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!
OK lets put aside the name displayed, I still have a feeling I am doing something wrong as I setup my account the under 'family group' I added my 2 children then linked my account to my 1st child and it went OK but when I repeat for my 2nd child I got the message 'error code 2124-0150' this nintrndo acvount has already been used on this console. Please link a different nintendo account. Does it mean I need to create another parent account and link my second child to the newly created account? The problem is not just the name shown, if my second child tries to play a game by selecting his account it says it is not linked to a parent account, so the only way to play is by using 1st child account and add the second player 🤔

@Tuscan72 When you create a new user profile, when it asks you to link the profile, you can skip it and select "Later". That profile will be able to play games, the caveat is, unlinked users game save data does not get game saves backed up with cloud support.

So, back to emails. If you want to link your kids profiles(so they get game save cloud backup), each user profile needs to be linked to its own unique email address. If you think that seems dumb that each kid needs their own email address, I agree. It seems dumb to make an email for a kid thats too young for an email account. But that's how it works. Since each user's save data will get saved to the cloud server, to keep people from making tons of cloud save profiles and wasting server space, they restrict it to one cloud save profile per email.

Sorry it took a few edits to get to this point. If you didn't notice, that works too
