Here it is, peeps!

They said it would never happen. It's too important to Sony, they said. It can't run, they said. Atlus would have done it by now if they were going to, they said.

They were wrong.

I told people this would happen. I said Persona WILL come to Switch by the end of this generation. Back when P5S was announced and everyone gave up hope, I said it would happen eventually. Nobody listens to Jaxon, though 😀

Come now. It's time to celebrate!

@JaxonH So, is Persona 5 turn based combat or action? (totally ignorant newb question of the day) It's such a cool looking game.

Even though I won't play these games, I am SO happy that they're finally coming. That's just really cool to see.

@WoomyNNYes
It's turn based.

It uses a system similar to SMT's press turn system, where exploiting an enemy's weakness gives you an extra turn. But the same is true in reverse. So it's all about using the right attacks on enemies. The first time you encounter an enemy their weakness is unknown, but as you use different status and element attacks, it reveals how effective it is and will then show up for every future encounter.

It's extremely stylish and fast paced. Combat is not slow and boring like many other turn based games. Even if you're not into RPGs, I recommend trying Persona because it very well could make you a fan.

Now personally, I think P4G is the best game of the three. However, it also has an extremely slow start (it was a PS2 JRPG- games back then didn't respect your time as much). Persona 5 hooks you much faster. And it's more modern.

So I'd maybe recommend starting with 5, then playing 4 afterward. You may like 5 more though- many do.

Looks like I'm putting another 100+ hours into Persona 5...

I'll probably pick up P4G as well as I'm due to replay that sometime.

Still unsure about about P3P. I would've much preferred FES for my first playthrough of the game, but maybe P3P will do.

P4 goes longer without featuring any actual gameplay (the first few hours are effectively one big cutscene), but I do think P5's tutorial is actually quite a bit longer overall. It's just better presented and mixes cutscenes and dialogue with bits of gameplay.

My big issue with P4 is the randomly-generated dungeons. They're boring, and lead to every dungeon feeling like a set of hallways with different themes. Whereas P5 has massive, multi-tiered, and often puzzle-filled dungeons.

Also, drawing cards to obtain new Personas is a terrible replacement for a proper negotiation system.

P5R is the closest this series has come to matching the design brilliance of the mainline SMT games for me.

I'm so freaking happy this is happening. I've only ever played persona 4 golden when it came to steam but man it was a wonderful game! Looking forward to finally getting the other persona games as well!

Add me on switch if you like Xenoblade :)

I'm a bit disappointed Persona 3 is the gimped PSP version. It'll be weird not being able to explore the different areas outside the dungeon. I'd played Persona 5 too (albeit the original version on PS3), and while I've heard good things about Persona 4, I was initially weary about committing to 3 big RPGs in such a short length of time.
For reference, if I recall, my Persona 3 save file (including the FES content not present in this port) clocked in at over 100 hours.

As I've mentioned before, I've always preferred the mainline Shin Megami Tensei games over the Persona spinoffs. The sim-life aspect isn't my jam. That said, the release of these games on Switch is something that should be celebrated and supported by fans of the rpg genre. I've played each of the games already, but if Atlus serve up physical releases for any or all of them...they'll have my money again. No hesitation.

Buying all three. I only ever played P4G on Vita, so 3 and 5 will be new experiences. Took a while, but soooo happy these are coming to Switch.

This makes Persona 5 Strikers a worthwhile purchase. Age of Calamity and Three Hopes show Koei Tecmo do Warriors games connected to a specific game very well so with Persona 5 Royal confirmed for Switch I'll get both.

The Xbox showcase revealed P3P and P4G were 2023 releases so those are a way off.

Personally very intrigued as to what the file sizes will be like on Switch. I know they're basically PS3/Vita games but it would certainly sway my decision as to which one to get first (I'm hoping 4 Golden isn't over something like 5-6GB since that's quite a bit of space on something as small as a Switch).

Buying all three as soon as I can. I've played and beaten Persona 5 Royal and it sits smugly atop my all time favourites list, a place it fought tooth and nail for and flat out deserved it after the first four hours anyway. It got better and better... and 82 hours later I beat it, Royal content and all. It's a masterpiece in originality, storytelling, writing (but definitely not localisation), voice acting, chemistry, turn-based combat, and social simulation.

I've barely played Persona 4 but I already know where so many elements of 5 I praise so highly, come from. I've watched the entire anime too and most of the elements above apply. Cast and VAs are top tier and the music is awesome. Persona 3 similarly, though I'm a bit less experienced in that one.

PSA: Play these games. All three, without exception. 5 especially, which could be one of the best games ever made. And I played Zelda growing up.

@TheJGG Although I started with Persona 4 Golden (which I absolutely adore, even if it wouldn't quite make it to my top 10 games of all time), I wholeheartedly agree about Persona 5. An absolute masterpiece, and probably my favourite game of all time discounting those I have particular nostalgia for (e.g. Pokemon series).

Some people wonder what the big deal is with Persona (to the point that there was quite a backlash against the Persona Switch "port-begging"), but it really is a big win for the Switch. Persona 5 is arguably the poster child for a modern JRPG and, in the absence of Mario Odyssey and BotW (Switch games, mind you), is probably the best game of 2017, one of the best years in video game history. And let's not forget that Persona 4 Golden was almost unanimously considered the best game on the PS Vita.

I already platinumed P5 on PS4 and almost done the same with P4G on Vita, but in the interest of trying to get Persona to stick around on Nintendo systems, I am going to double-dip. Will also be a good opportunity to finally get around to playing P3, although I was hoping for a proper remake of that in a more modern engine.

Persona 1 and 2 remakes would be cool too but will probably never happen.

Just need to get the dancing games on Switch now. =)

Signature, huh? Where do I sign?

jedgamesguy

@Buizel Absolutely the best game of 2017... if somehow Breath of the Wild was erased from existence. This is a small point, suited outside a Persona thread, but I believe Mario Odyssey's a little overrated! I'd put P5 second in terms of 2017's best, but a very close second to Breath of the Wild. I don't think there's many games that can take the crown from BotW but this game was one.

I'll admit there was a point where I questioned if we would even get it, and by the time I came to terms with it... rumours, leaks, then the PC announcements, and here we are. But Switch owners are only better off with these games on the console. Now lots of new people can try these games. It does ruin the "game you love to death but nobody else has played it so you feel very special" emotion but... we got three games on Switch.
