@MikeW6 This past fall, Japan had exclusive physical releases of BOTW w/ DLC and Splatoon 2 w/ DLC. Although, those carts only have japanese language on them. You'd have to download the english.
@MikeW6
Well, unfortunately no English option for Yokai Watch games on Switch.
But you can use the walkthrough from YouTube, from user AbdallahSmash for Japanese games walkthrough.
He understand Japanese language so he will translate some of Japanese texts from his video.
I’ve got no comment on what to buy but I’d say I'd prepare yourself for a culture shock. The country is made for small people so if you're over 6' you will struggle there, if you have tattoos make sure they are covered when you're not in the touristy areas as I had to learn whilst some people are cool with it others will see you an evil gaijin, eating there is confusing as tipping is an insult as well as loads of odd eating etiquette like you’re meant to slurp also the toilets are insane as they are both a bidet and a normal toilet.
@jump hilarious post . I am ready! At least I think I am. It's the thought of the bidet's that scares me the most. Well that and the prices of everything.
The yen is weak and the moment, so it’s actually a pretty decent time to visit if you’re American.

…Err, unfortunately the pound sterling is also floundering so that pretty much cancels things out.
Anyway, I can’t think of too much exclusive Switch stuff (physical versions of Ōkami and TWEWY come to mind, but I can’t remember if they were also released outside of Japan). If you’re interested in older games though, then you should find plenty of well cared for stuff at reasonable prices. There are places like Super Potato in Akihabara that make mint selling overpriced retro goods to tourists, but really, any ‘recycle shop’ (secondhand store) such as Hard Off (yes, that’s a real place)/Second Street/etc. should be stuffed with loads of interesting games/knickknacks/memorabilia in good condition.
In fact, unless you’re dead set on buying new, I’d recommend first checking Hard Off/Book Off/Hobby Off/Second Street for pretty much anything as you’ll probably find it there significantly cheaper. It it wasn’t clear, I love Japanese recycle shops: they’re like CEX but 10+ times bigger and without the rip-off prices or lingering stench of BO.
You should avoid having anything squirted up your backside so long as you don’t press the おしり button (with a helpfully buttock-shaped ω symbol on it). As for slurping, it’s entirely optional (not a ‘show of appreciation to the chef’ as is sometimes erroneously stated), but it does help cool the noodles down as they enter your mouth. I would recommend against slurping directly from the toilet, however.
@Maxz great advice thank you! I love browsing 2nd hand shops so ill deffo check out your suggestions. physical Okami is a great shout ... and what a great game! And now you mention it ... CEX does have a strange odour doesnt it hahaha ha.
If your looking for Japanese nintendo switch games with the English language on them try: Pui Pui Molcar & Doraemon Nobita's Brain Exercise Adventure both for nintendo switch. I have both & play them on nintendo switch lite & also nintendo switch oled~ 🤷♀️✌️
It's very cute & also made by Bandai Namco~ 👍 The graphics are top notch. I for real thought I was playing a first party title at first even though I know it's made by Bandai Namco~ 🤣 Had to double check the publisher~ 🤣 The game is ahead of its time~ 👍 It's not short in game play neither alot of stuff to unlock new areas, shop's, accessories etc & has an online feature to play molcar online for players around the world~ 👍 I can't praise the game enough~ 🎆👍
My favourite story from Japan was my mate who's black only piece of Japanese he learnt to say was "Hi, I am black" which worked amazingly well as a conversation starter with the ladies over there.
