So I have a Canadian eshop account as you only pay 5% tax compared to the 20% we pay here in the UK.
I use it to buy games all the time, just last night I purchased Thimbleweed Park for around £6. I also purchased the Splatoon 2 DLC, having already got the Xenoblade 2 DLC there for around £6 cheaper. The Xenoblade DLC worked fine. The Splatoon 2 didn’t. My mistake, not in anyway moaning as it even stated in the small print that this will only work with the North American version of the game.
My question is, does anybody know if a North American copy of Splatoon will work on a European Switch? I know the games are region free but I’m more curious about how servers run.
Any thoughts or advice would be very welcome.
🙏
Servers are not region locked (they may prohibit NNIDs from other regions, however, this has not affected me with my Japanese games which I play with an Australian NNID), however, servers may be version locked, for example, non-Japanese versions of Splatoon 2 cannot participate in Japanese Splatfests and so on.
So, importing or downloading the NA version of Splatoon 2 will work fine on your European Switch. The worst case scenario is that you may need to create a NA profile on your Switch in the unlikely event that the NA version of Splatoon 2 prohibits European NNIDs from accessing the NA Splatoon servers.
It sure would. However, I’ve got a physical copy of Splatoon that I could sell to a friend for £35, and use that money to buy a digital Canadian copy. Not perfect as I prefer Physical where possible but would save me losing out on cash money @chardir
Splatoon 2 uses ping based match making so it searches for those near you. The only problem that could rise from this would be splatfest a since they are often separate between regions so you could have trouble finding players during one. (Finding 3 others to play together with would probably work to find more people in NA though)
