I don't think it's an easy decision to make. If you release it for both, you're able to reach a much larger install base, but you risk your game being dismissed as a Switch 1 game. If you release it exclusively on Switch 2, you might get much more coverage in press and social media.

I don't think I'll have time for Switch 2 stuff when the Switch 2 launches unless it's coming out in like November because of how much Switch 1 stuff there is. Like I think Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered and XCX alone will last me from February 14th to some point in May/June, then you've got a potential Switch 1 Direct in February that would add even more.

@FishyS good question. I'm not sure. I'll guess I'll just be buying up whatever is launching on both switch 2 switch 1 if they're cross releasing.

They’ll keep the Nintendo account system. So I’m sure some if not most will be carried forward meaning if you bought it on switch from the eshop, you can also redownload on the switch 2 if it supports it.

All I want to know is if the rumours of Ubisoft remastering Driver 1 & 2 is real. And if so, knowing how Ubisoft is today, what would that even look like? I am not expecting much from this rumour but, I can dream.

Yea, I don't expect a ton of exclusive Switch 2 stuff, but I don't really play a lot of games. I like to play a smaller amount but typically go for 100% completion.

Like, if Mario Kart 9 is a Switch 2-only game, I'm going to play it until the tires fall off. I'm still playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it's insane.

@rallydefault
Fair enough. I don't play that many games either, but I tend to replay the games I love a lot. That's why I said I'll probably be playing more Switch 1 games during the new console's first year. I can be quite picky when it comes to buying new games.

@Dev-N We are fairly sure there will be some big AAA ports the first year which will make Switch 2 have more games the first year than Switch 1 had. Those won't technically be exclusives of course since they will be on PS5/PC.

What would you want in the direct to want to buy Switch 2 asap?

@sheztephan
Yea, as I've gotten older I've finally come to accept what games I genuinely enjoy, and I stick to those rather than wasting money on stuff I'll play for a few hours and then never finish. I like to see everything a game has to offer and all the fun stuff the developers hide for people who really complete the entire game.

My Switch 1 will be super easy to keep around for playing the older games. I'll probably keep my Switch Lite active along with my Switch 2 to avoid need of an original dock.

@Dev-N
I think they're going to have a couple big games for Switch 2's first year. It seems like Mario Kart 9 is happening, and I wouldn't be surprised at 1 or 2 more big exclusives through the end of 2025.

@Dev-N
Your feelings sound very, very similar to mine. I'm not excited for the mouse functionality, I'm not excited for the handheld dimensions to be even larger than they already are on the OLED, and I'm hesitant with how sturdy these magnetic Joycon are going to feel in handheld mode.

But I'm still finding places to be excited.

I do think they're going to have some kind of social app like Miiverse, maybe an achievement/trophy/sticker sort of system that goes along with it. You can see they've been testing the waters with that kind of thing on NSO with the profile icon builder elements, and that MMO-style secret test they invited people to a couple months ago seems like it would be an interesting app for them to make their own Dreamlight Valley persistent world. I'm thinking they're gonna synthesize all that stuff for a really cool experience.

But what has me most excited is how quiet their major devs have been for the last couple years. You just know they've been working on some huge games, and those puppies will be ready to go in 2025-2026.

I'm all in day 1. I know the games and gimmicks will come at some point. I just can't wait to see what first party stuff is there within the first year. Mario kart, 3d mario and zelda hopefully, even if its a remake.

Bolt_Strike

@Dev-N I haven't really seen many rumors about a crossover 3D Mario, and I'm not sure it's particularly likely. I think they may want the big flagship 3D Mario to be all to itself and not involve any other IPs. I think they want you to like it because it's Mario and not because of other IPs.

What I have seen for 3D Mario rumors, and what I think is more likely to be true, is that it's going to be fully open world. Something like Bowser's Fury but a full game. And that definitely seems like the direction they might go for, what they've done with Odyssey and Bowser's Fury suggests that that's where they want to take the series. An entire game that's fully open world feels like the next logical step.

@NintendoByNature Same here! I know "a Switch but better" is boring, but I DON'T CARE!! I love the Switch and can't wait to see how they utilize the extra power. And on the .0001% chance I don't want any of the exclusives, hey, I am more than happy to play my Switch games with better performance!

@NintendoByNature Oh Zelda is most definitely a remake if anything (or maybe a spinoff like another Warriors game). We just had TotK and EoW back to back in the last 2 years, it'd be naive to think they have another new Zelda ready this year. We probably won't see new Zeldas until midway through the Switch 2's lifespan AT LEAST. The next game will be a port, remake, or spinoff. No way in hell this isn't the case.

@Bolt_Strike Definitely agree re: Zelda. If they want to keep their trend of new Zelda almost every year, I'm expecting us to get inundated with ports, remakes, and spinoffs for a few years. I'm just hoping there is some new weird type of spinoff in the mix to keep things interesting.

Same. I just want it.

@CaleBoi25 yea for sure.
@Bolt_Strike fully agree. I'm thinking a remake is in the cards during the first or second year. I'd be cool with any remake at this point. Even better if it's a spin off like cadence of hyrule was. I know it wasn't for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The more I think about it, a 2d remake of zelda 1, 2, minish cap, or the oracle games would have me through the roof with excitement. A link to the past would also be great, but I actually think it's fine the way it is and less worthy of a remake than the others.

NintendoByNature

Grumblevolcano

@Bolt_Strike I think February would have the answer to that. If Zelda appears in February Direct then whatever game is present is the 2025 game, meanwhile if Zelda doesn't appear in February Direct then BotW Remastered is the 2025 game.

I don't get why people are thinking Nintendo is going to re-release BotW again on the Switch 2 as a big 2025 title. I don't think a lot of people are going to double-dip on a game that isn't really even all that old. Especially with a sequel that technically does things better and bigger than the original game. Especially if "BotW remastered" is literally just a graphical upgrade.

I feel like the better alternative is a Twilight Princess remake. Like an actual full-on remake done from the ground up with an orchestrated score. Especially given how long its taken them to release Twilight Princess again. I doubt it would just be a simple port of the HD remaster.

The Breath of the Wild Remaster is literally just someone going "Hey, you know Sony does this with Horizon! Nintendo is 100% going to do this too!"

@VoidofLight
There were some rumors about a BotW tech demo on Switch 2, I believe. Pretty sure that's why so many think a remaster is in the works.

I don't buy it though. A Wind Waker or Twilight Princess port makes more sense to me. Heck, even an HD remake of Ocarina of Time seems more likely to me than BotW.

@sheztephan At this point I can't see just a simple port of Windwaker or Twilight Princess, given how long they've taken to port them. I would be sorely disappointed if we don't just get outright remakes for one or the other tbh.

Also yeah, I can't see them making a remaster for BotW and charging full price for it. Even if they showed it off as a tech demo, it was most likely because they had no new games at the time worth showcasing behind closed doors for the system.
