@skywake I feel January's like October. DKC Returns HD is right in the middle of the month much like Jamboree was in October so they'd give the game similar space. That leaves the final week of January but at that point you may as well just until February to avoid clashing with State of Play/Xbox Developer Direct.
I’m fully expecting when the Switch 2 is announced, it’ll be through a “This is an Xbox” reveal trailer. It’s obviously what Phil was referencing to when he said they’re working on an Xbox handheld.

@FragRed Microsoft bought Nintendo when we weren’t looking…
If Microsoft really did that then we can finally purchase classic Nintendo games again on the online shop and our purchases would actually be available to download for free on a second console and will carry over to the next gen console for free without any upgrade fees. When it comes to classic games preservation, Microsoft does what Nintendon’t.
@skywake@Grumblevolcano I just thought that Nintendo may want to reveal Switch 2 before the Super Bowl so they can have an advertisement in it. I believe they did that with Switch, and this really would show off Switch 2 to a huge audience. I think it'd be a great idea to reveal it a bit beforehand (probably mid-January), and then we get an ad for the super bowl. I'm still leaning on March, but I think January has a decently strong chance for the reveal. although not sure how Nintendo would want to space that out with a potential Pokemon Presents giving a release window for Z-A for Pokemon Day in February.
@Don Given how Nintendo is talking about the Switch 2 and it's backwards compatibility, it seems more likely that we're not going to have to repurchase our digital libraries. Especially given that it's all connected under the Nintendo Account system- and how they're carrying over NSO.
I also don't think Microsoft buying out Nintendo would be a good scenario realistically. Mainly because Microsoft buys corporations only to run them into the ground. They would also probably put Nintendo's games on PC- which would mark the end of even remotely wanting to buy Nintendo's hardware, along with games made to take advantage of said hardware.

The two main ports/remasters I wanted to see (that aren't already on Switch) before the end of the Switch's life cycle were Animal Crossing New Leaf and Luigi's Mansion (GCN), however I am doubting they will be on Switch at this point.
After hearing Switch 2 will continue using NSO, I am pretty confident that it will at some point have GameCube. If it does indeed have GameCube, I think Luigi's Mansion would be an obvious pick as it was a great seller and was the launch title of the console.
However I am not confident there will be a New Leaf HD anytime soon, as the next console seems around the corner and we should be getting a brand new entry sooner rather than later. Maybe we'll have to wait until around the end of the Switch 2's life cycle?
@CaleBoi25 I think that it would depend on GameCube NSO. If there is GameCube NSO, Animal Crossing would probably be top 10 or so picks for them so it'd probably be on there instead of getting an individual port.
@PikminMarioKirby I don't see them remaking any Animal Crossing games. Mainly because the new games are so similar to one another that they pretty much don't need to remake them.
That being said- I wish they would remake New Leaf at least, given it's a much better game than New Horizons in almost every way (barring lack of quality of life features like the inventory space). New Leaf actually has consequences for your actions, and actually feels like you're pretty much living in a world that keeps going regardless if you log into the game or not. Something New Horizons lacks by getting rid of said consequences.

I'm 100% with you on the idea of AC remakes. And I'd probably extend that to Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Splatoon and similar such titles. These are titles where generally the new title supercedes the old. There's significantly less value in a remake than there would be for a Zelda game or similar
If they put out GC NSO then sure, I could see AC being added to it. But it'd be more of a "look where we started" curiosity than anything else. And I know me saying this is going to ruffle some feathers. I know that's definitely not how I personally view Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64. But I think that's just generally how these games are viewed by both Nintendo and most end users
@skywake Pretty much, yeah. Nintendo sees these series as "New better, old worse." It's only usually the singleplayer games that have massive story and gameplay differences that tend to be remade. Mainly their RPGs.
The most I can hope for when it comes to Animal Crossing is that the next one reverts a few of the changes that New Horizons made to the series (something I doubt will happen seeing how well New Horizons sold over every other game in the franchise).

I agree about Microsoft ruining the companies they buy, Rareware being a great example. However, I do like how they handled digital purchases. It was terrible the way Nintendo handled the digital purchase of their classic games on virtual console. The games were tied to a console and not an account, an upgrade fee for downloading the same games purchased on the Wii on the Wii U and when the Switch came it changed into a subscription only option for their classic games with no option to purchase. My comment about if Microsoft actually acquired Nintendo was to say they would have handled the accessibility of classic Nintendo games much better than Nintendo is doing.
@VoidofLight@skywake To me it feels like New Leaf fans have been pretty vocal about it, but that certainly doesn't mean they'd bring it back. I wouldn't expect a full remake, probably something similar to Skyward Sword HD or Luigi's Mansion 2 HD where it's basically the same exact game with little to no enhancements.
I'd probably extend that to Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Splatoon and similar such titles.
Those series and Mario Maker don't really feel necessary to bring back games (outside of NSO), but MK8 Deluxe proves they can bring back Mario Kart (I'd say Double Dash is unique enough to bring back as well)
As for Animal Crossing, I agree that 64, GCN, Wii, and DS are all really similar to each other, but New Leaf and New Horizons are both very unique titles. New Leaf feels like the best of both worlds from the old games and the new stuff from New Horizons. I get that an Animal Crossing remake/remaster would be less of a priority than a 3D Mario or a Pokemon title, but I think with how successful Animal Crossing has been recently that Nintendo could try to get more sales by bringing back a game.
but I think with how successful Animal Crossing has been recently that Nintendo could try to get more sales by bringing back a game.
Why wouldn't they just make a new game instead? New Leaf sold 13 million but New Horizons sold 46 million. I assume the priority will be to try recapture a decent chunk of those mostly new Animal Crossing players as well as getting brand new players (e.g. children etc).
According to Riddler Khu, Pokemon Legends ZA won't be featured on pokemon day but will get a new trailer before then. If that's true, then they're probably focusing on something bigger like gen 10 on pokemon day, which would mean the switch 2 has to be revealed before then.
I would be very surprised if Nintendo ever remade or remastered any Animal Crossing game, the reason being that the games necessarily depend on an online ecosystem of myriad players having similar experiences, and to have multiple simultaneous active titles could potentially divide the player base. It would seem to make more sense to have one active title which captures the entire active player base.
I don't think Microsoft will ever purchase Nintendo (although I think they would if they could, but Nintendo is too cash-rich for a hostile takeover to work). However, with how chummy the companies have been lately, I can imagine a world where Nintendo releases some kind of collection of classic titles for XBox consoles. Say a Mario All-Stars type collection with Mario 1-3 and World, which they would of course charge $59.99 for.
“Why do you speak of certain reversals—machinery connected wrong, for instance, as being ‘ass backwards’? I can’t understand that. Ass usually is backwards, right? You ought to be saying ‘ass forwards,’ if backwards is what you mean."
@Sigran102 TPC still announced BDSP and Legends Arceus news (free content updates for both) when they revealed Gen 9 so if it's true there's no presence on Pokemon Day, it would give me the impression either there's no Pokemon Presents on Pokemon Day or Legends Z-A is already released by then. No Pokemon Presents would feel the more believable of the two.
