My inside sources have given me an important update about Metroid Prime 2, 3, or 4 appearing at a Nintendo direct. I can confirm at least one of these games will be revealed by Nintendo in some capacity between now and the heat death of the universe

Same with kid Icarus uprising and every single GameCube game ever released

@Grumblevolcano Thanks! that's an interesting list. I can't believe 1/4th of those directs ended in TotK. That makes me assume either this direct or one of the 2024 directs will definitely end in TotK DLC. 😆

What does that list have:
Splatoon -3 appearances
Mario -3
Smash -4
Animal Crossing - 1
Astral Chain -1
Zelda - 5
Xenoblade -2
Bayonetta -1
Mario Kart - 1

Looking at GrumbleVolcano's list, September directs usually seem to either be getting more info on already released giant titles or reveals of mid-tier titles. We don't know anything about what's coming out in January / February / March (which, will probably be when the next direct is), so there's a whole quarter worth of games to potentially announce. That combined with another GCN shadow drop and more info on the Q4 games and DLC announcements and 3rd party reveals are more than enough for a full direct worth of potentials, we don't even need all of that.

I mean, I'd personally wager we'll get confirmation of either Luigi's Mansion 2 or the Peach game coming out in Q1 (or both), another Wii U port (XCX / WW / TP / Wooly World are the only ones left) or GCN/3DS Remaster (Kid Icarus Uprising, Thousand Year Door, Super Mario 3D Land, Link Between Worlds or something totally different, lots of choices.). I'd wager ToTK or Splatoon 3 DLC would have to be the finale.

Thinking maybe the 20th anniversary edition of Beyond Good & Evil is being held off for Nintendo’s September Direct as it’s odd for Ubisoft not to have announced it during their Ubisoft Forward back in June and I don’t think they have anything else like that coming up.

2K just announced that Borderlands 3 is coming to Switch on October 6th.

@Grumblevolcano There must be a good amount of love and care with the BL3 port, it was leaked by a PEGI rating years ago (April 2021). Personally I will be interested to hear about the state of the physical release and its possible compression. BL3 is not a small game. Especially if this will be packaged with all DLC.

Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

@Giancarlothomaz Alternatively, what if they shadow-drop it during The Game Awards? I don't exactly see it getting a physical release, especially considering what happened with the HD version.

First time in my life I completely skipped watching Super Mario Wonder from Nintendo Direct after I religiously watching Nintendo Direct for getting know the upcoming games.
I didn't watch Super Mario Wonder Direct, I just only read the articles about Super Mario Wonder as whatever new features added, it will not make me really excited.
I still have less interest with 2D Mario games despite I still want to get the game very very late.
I became less and less interested to getting know what games will be announced from Nintendo Direct as I only need to know specific games from separated trailers that I have interest about without watching the whole Nintendo Direct.
I have changed that much since this year.

One thing to note is that Sony likely has a State of Play in September. Spider-Man 2 hasn't started its big info blowout yet, Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade have got vague 2023 release windows, there's still the mystery surrounding the rumoured detachable disc drive PS5 and based on how Sony's announced 1st party games for PC their next PC game (I'd guess GT7 given the movie) will likely be revealed soon.

Notable dates for PS this month:

  • September 6th - PS+ price hike
  • September 7th - Major PS5 discount ends (£399 for disc model)
  • September 13th - Likely announcement timing for PS+ Extra/Premium September lineup (2nd Wednesday of the month)
  • September 19th - Likely release timing for PS+ Extra/Premium September lineup (Tuesday after announcement)
  • September 27th - Likely announcement timing for PS+ Essential October lineup (Wednesday before the first Tuesday of the month)

Might be useful in considering Direct timing as Nintendo likes being last when it comes to showcases. September 2022 showcased this well, Nintendo wasn't last (Sony had a State of Play later the same day) and GoW Ragnarok kind of stole the spotlight.

Turns out we've got our answer for the SMB Wonder Direct timing:

https://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-live/event-lineup/

SMB Wonder is playable at Nintendo Live:

"Gameplay:
Try the upcoming Super Mario Bros.™ Wonder game for the Nintendo Switch system, available to play for the first time!"

That's pretty much confirmation that the SMB Direct doesn't decrease the chances of a September general Direct or even the timing of when it could be.

@Grumblevolcano I was just about to post about this info. Since Wonder is playable at Nintendo Live, it was going to come out anyway. I could totally see Nintendo wanting to release it before then.

Tokyo Game Show starts on the 21st, so I feel like we're getting a Direct by then. If there's any SMBW info there, it'll probably those few worlds we know nothing about.

My official guess is that we're getting something between the 12-14. It's the week before TGS, and it's more than a week after the SMBW Direct.

@ElRoberico I also noticed that Nintendo Live starts with a 30 minute Treehouse Live segment for SMB Wonder:

Afterwards is the tournaments we've known about for awhile.

Right, here is my prediction for the one more thing. There seems to be some rumblings about a potential Smash pass 3 (bonkers) so I would love something like this to happen...

WaLuigi is looking at everyone getting their own games and feeling a kinda way about it. Mario Wonder / RPG, Luigi's Mansion 2, Peach, DK (maybe) and Wario Ware. So he breaks into Smash Bros without an invite and Sakurai has a hard time understanding what is going on when he tries to talk about it. At the very end of the trailer, it shows WaLuigi left the videogame door open...and we see another foot (in shadow of course) walking slowly towards the threshhold.

Or something like that.
