I hope Master System happens but I'm not holding my breath given nobody really cares about the platform in the regions that matter to Nintendo (Japan and NA). Also as much as I have a lot of nostalgia for the system there's not a whole lot there that'd be interesting for newcomers. Most of the stuff on there also existed on and was better on the Mega Drive

@skywake Yeah that’s a good point and I guess you could argue the same for the PC Engine. It was a failure in the US, didn’t really have much support in Europe (I think it released in Europe?) so it’s only Japan that would be interested. But then what do they add next?

@skywake@FragRed However both were added to VC, all the systems added to NSO so far were part of VC:
NES - Wii, Wii U, 3DS
SNES - Wii, Wii U, 3DS (New 3DS only)
N64 - Wii, Wii U
GB/GBC - 3DS
GBA - Wii U (also the 3DS ambassador program)
Mega Drive - Wii
As for the remaining systems:
DS - Wii U
Arcade - Wii
Master System - Wii
Game Gear - 3DS
Turbografx-16 - Wii, Wii U
NEO GEO - Wii
Commodore 64 - Wii (though the games were delisted in 2013)
Arcade Archives makes NEO GEO and Arcade unlikely, Sonic Origins Plus makes Game Gear unlikely (most of the Game Gear games on 3DS VC were included in that compilation), Commodore 64 was delisted way before the shop shutdown so that's unlikely. That leaves DS, Master System and Turbografx-16.
So far the only 1st party DS remasters/remakes we've gotten on Switch are Pokemon (Blue Rescue Team, Diamond/Pearl) and 7 DS tracks are in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (will probably be 8 total if wave 6 is the end given I don't see them skipping out on Airship Fortress) but getting around the dual screen nature of a lot of DS games would be difficult (remasters/remakes seem more likely).
Master System and Mega Drive were able to coexist on Wii VC so I don't see why it couldn't be the same on NSO. Meanwhile Turbografx-16 stayed right through to the end of the Wii U eshop in March 2023 (wasn't delisted early) so I could see it appear on NSO.
Though on the other hand, I could see the addition of no new systems to NSO and that's why it's such a slow dripfeed. You could see Smash appear in 2027 for example at the current N64 rate.
@Grumblevolcano With NSO being a subscription based service instead of individual purchases like Virtual Console, I can see Nintendo being more hesitant to add systems that weren’t their own as it means more expenses with licensing costs.

Looks like I will not watch Nintendo Direct anymore.
I can read the games announcement pattern so I will not watch the whole Direct since I only care the unpopular games, the kids games, the unusual games that I can watch their trailers separately without watching the whole Direct that oftenly filled with the games I do not care about such as rated 18+ games, too popular games like Zelda, AAA games, boring soccer games, handphone games, the games that mostly played by mainstream adult male gamers.
Don't get me wrong.
I still like my Nintendo Switch, but I became pickier and choose the games more selective, not easily to get impressed by new games.
@GrailUK
I know, right?
The Direct or presentation of upcoming games became more uninteresting from year to year so the better option is wait until we can watch the separated trailers and we just only click the trailers we have interest about and ignore the uninteresting games.
@FishyS
Games Award just only care the mainstream stuffs that I never like them.
Something with mainstream audiences favorite things that needed to be fixed because their taste are terrible.

@Anti-Matter sounds like a great idea you not watching it. 👍🏻
It probably make you upset watching popular first party nintendo games 😉
I like to think someone at Nintendo was reading this thread and as soon as we started speculating about a September Direct they thought "let's mess with them and do one on August 31st"
..... obviously not what happened. But I do like the idea of Nintendo deliberately messing with us

There was a Xenoblade 3 and Splatoon 3 direct before the Sept. 13 full direct last year, right? If anything, I’d ignore the fools like Zippo online (who said we’d be getting a chrono trigger remake for the June direct) who also said an earlier direct this year is more likely. I would guess the third full week of September as a more likely timespan for a regular direct (if one at all, which I don’t doubt will happen but my expectations are in check at all times) closer to Tokyo Game Show’s 21st date than farther from. The 12th or 19th could work as decent dates. They always put one out before TGS, so I’m not really concerned. And this Mario direct is only 15 minutes, nothing mind blowing.
As for retro consoles on NSO, the only ones I can realistically see happening are master system and DS. DS would take some doing for sure, because of its gimmick. Not entirely sure how you’d replicate the touch screen on a tv, since the Wii used the Gamepad and the tv screen simultaneously. They could make it handheld exclusive, which is fine by me
Nintendo anounce a 15 minutes Nintendo Direct at 10 am, in august 31th, focused on Super Mario Bros Wonder and speculating/predicting what Nintendo could show on the Super Mario Bros Wonder focused Direct
