@Bolt_Strike Ports/remasters/remakes are a lot better value than adding stuff to NSO. You get to actually keep the games (rather than constantly pay to rent it), sometimes the game is improved outside graphics (e.g. WWHD made the Triforce quest a lot less obnoxious) and also there's a point where subscriptions are at their best with after that point it just constantly gets worse in value. Game Pass reached its best value in 2021 for example.
If Nintendo were to add GCN games to NSO, they'd either add a more expensive tier (e.g. £60 a year) or increase the price of NSO Expansion Pack.
@GrailUK Bloody hell, don’t get started discussing what contributes retro. I was on a Reddit forums a while ago and the rules around what was considered retro was just bizarre. Basically nothing beyond PS1 was considered retro because it’s all just better looking 3D visuals. It’s a really divisive subject as everyone has such different perspectives on what they consider retro.

@FragRed Well, it helps me sleep at night by considering retro as something that no longer contributes to a country's quality of life. Some folk go for state of the art. Others because of circumstance go for cheaper models (or the previous generation if still sold.) And that applies to just about anything from furniture to consumer electronics. What might be retro in one country might still be all the rage in another due to their economy etc. But yeah, I get other folk have their own take.
@GrailUK Furniture is an interesting example because people buy 1970s 'retro' furniture but some people also have furniture which was made literal centuries ago. I wonder what retro will mean in gaming when there are a couple hundred years worth of video games around.
@FishyS Yeah, interesting. But ultimately, what a couple of 1000 people do because of a hobby or quirky design tastes, won't really impact on what the rest of the 10s of millions are doing lol.
@GrailUK I was more thinking, will 'retro gaming' always consist of 20-50 years in the past or will it consist of everything old? Or will there be antique gaming? 😝 Will Nintendo be selling online services which include a port of a port of a port of a port of Oracle of Seasons in 200 years? 10s of millions of people do subscribe to NSO afterall.
With music there's the whole what counts as classic rock discussion. Some say it's static (e.g. no later than the 80s and that'll be the case even in 50 years time) while others say it's more about how long ago it released (e.g. some count American Idiot as a classic rock album which released in 2004).
@GrailUK Ah yes, you clearly have an original Mayamoto here. This is from the Mario line of games, this one called Super Mario Bros. It’s a really fine piece of art. Look at how the pixels move on the screen. Really quite extraordinary work how it all moves.
Anyway I’d say in the right auction, in this condition, it could fetch somewhere in the realm of £2 million

@FragRed Whoa! I think I'll start buying packets of Walkers crisps now and keep hold of them! (They will probably be called Lays by them, too. Hmmm...that could affect their value...)
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

Now I'm not very familiar with WW having not played it, but even one QoL feature like that doesn't quite seem like enough. If I was a WW fan, I'd be asking for those cut dungeons back in a $60 remake/remaster.
Really for full $60 retail games I'd want full remakes more along the lines of the earlier Pokemon remakes (FireRed/LeafGreen, HeartGold/SoulSilver, also OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire to a degree), the Metroid remakes (Zero Mission/Samus Returns), or Mario 64 DS. Something that has significantly more/improved content over the original instead of a glorified copy/paste job with a handful of extras.
and also there's a point where subscriptions are at their best with after that point it just constantly gets worse in value. Game Pass reached its best value in 2021 for example.
Unless they raised their rates that's not really possible. Adding more content to Game Pass only increases its value.

We really should be questioning why these tiers are so expensive when it's just ready made games they're making compatible with the Switch. The Expansion Pack was already absurdly overpriced (literally no one predicted it would be as expensive as it turned out to be) and hasn't gotten much better in value. But nope, we just complained about it for a few weeks while it was in the news and just said "Yes Daddy please" and ate it up. For $50 a month we should at LEAST be getting N64, GC, and DS, don't go up to $60 until we get to like, Wii U or something.
@FragRed Luckily this is less an argument about what fits the definition of some vague, subjective buzzword and more about which systems' games need to be made accessible for fans to buy. I would say a good rule of thumb in terms of which systems should be emulated would be anything more than 2 generations ago. So in this case, DS and Wii or older should be available through a service such as VC or NSO, and then for Switch 2 it should be 3DS and Wii U or older.
@ElRoberico Well a September Direct is all but guaranteed if previous years are anything to go by, but early early September? As in like the first week? Eh, not so sure about that myself.
My personal prediction would be one between the 10th-14th as that's when these kinds of Directs have typically fallen in the past.
