@korosanbo nah, Nintendo have it trademarked, link below. It’s common for Publishers to own the IP that they published even if it was developed by someone else.
@Giancarlothomaz They're not going to drop BotW2 when they're celebrating Mario's 35th. If anything, they'll wait till next year for Zelda's anniversary. Assuming the game is even done.

If there's one thing Nintendo has proven in 2020 it's that they're capable of keeping almost finished games close to their chest. Numerous releases of theirs in 2020 were announced mere months or even weeks before release. I think it's very likely Nintendo has something else in store for us this coming Holiday season that we don't yet know about. It probably won't be revealed through a Direct though.
I think 3D All Stars was announced so close to launch because of the limited availability for physical stock. I'm guessing anyway that when this initial stock run is gone there will be no restocks and the only way to buy it will be the eshop release.
This was the Mario direct. I remember the 2019 September Direct talked about future releases up to summer 2020 so perhaps we could see another one at the end of September or possibly the beginning of Nov.?
"They say video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock n' roll."
@Slowdive oh well😂. I feel like the next announcement has to be soon. It’s been about 2 months since Min Min and we still have five characters left. Fingers crossed for Phoenix Wright!
At this point I think most likely there is no general Direct until 2021. It's too late in the year and they want to promote the Mario 35th anniversary stuff and Pikmin 3 before they tell us anything more. The only thing we really need to know in the short term is details on Bowser's Fury, but they can always just do a social media update for that. My guess is the next general direct will be sometime between January and March.
@HobbitGamer that make sense, since Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 could be the Holiday title of Switch for 2021 and a big way to finish the 35th anniversary of Legend of Zelda franchise next year.

I think outside of E3 and new hardware launches we won't see general directs again. If there is a holiday game I bet it's a shadow drop, I'm assuming we'll have a Zelda mini at some point, hopefully early in 2021.
Indie Worlds + Partner Showcases + Minis + Individual game announcements seems to be the new approach for Nintendo...and I don't think there is a problem with that, I know it's exciting to get a big announcement with loads of stuff, but it's not like we're getting less games?
@MarioBrickLayer I think it's more likely Nintendo stops doing E3 Directs. I mean Microsoft already stated they're not doing physical events until at least July 2021 (I'd guess this gets extended further away), Sony quit E3 in 2019 so we'll probably see E3 2021 cancelled (rightly so assuming the pandemic is still around by then) and the return of Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest and IGN's Summer of Gaming where Nintendo is mostly silent for 4 months.
I do hope E3 returns properly if this pandemic ends.
Didn't one of the leakers say there was a pretty big game for the holiday? I'm sure someone said that. I thought it was Grubb.
Nate The Hate has said that, he seems fairly insistent there will be a holiday game, you could interpret what he said to mean he has insider info, but he doesn't actually say that, so he could just be speculating.
@damien33ad@NintendoByNature I think there is more chance of another Mario announcement than anything Zelda or Metroid happening, I think both of those are next year.
If there is a holiday game I think it would be another IP (star fox? Kirby? F-Zero?) or A new IP.
If it was another Mario announcement, what could it be? I can't see Odyssey 2 or another new 3D game coming soon.
It wouldn't be Mario otherwise it would've been in the Mario 35th anniversary Direct, it wouldn't be BotW 2 otherwise we'd have gotten more info earlier on and it probably wouldn't be a niche IP like Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero, etc. because the purpose of holiday titles are to bring in hardware sales so Nintendo would've likely had the niche IP for September meanwhile 3D All Stars being November.
I think the most likely outcomes are:
Zelda port/remaster (Nintendo did say they wanted Zelda to be an annual franchise and we haven't got one for 2020 yet)
A blue ocean type game such as Switch Sports (Ring Fit is a good alternative to Wii Fit but there's no good alternative to Wii Sports on the Switch)
The big holiday title was 3D World but it got delayed to February 2021
Crown Tundra DLC is all we get on the 1st party front but we end up with some big 3rd party stuff (Nintendo doesn't need a holiday title if they managed to get Rockstar to port over GTAV for example)
@Grumblevolcano Yeah, a new Mario coming out in Nov makes no sense to me. They have announced Mario games as far out as Feb so there's no reason to hold off games coming out before that and the Mario Direct would have been the best time to announce a Mario game.
Ninty might be counting Cadence of Hyrule physical release as a Zelda 2020 release if they are after releasing a yearly game.
