@Joeynator3000 Hoothoot is the pal for that one.

The clues being bad isn't as annoying to me as when I have taken a pic of something, knows it's right but it doesn't count and then an identical pic somehow does clear it 3-4 tries later.

Well, I tried taking a bunch of pics there but it never counts, so I dunno...and Meganium just runs on by ignoring the tree most of the time. >.<

NGL I've just given up on the challenges for now, and it's not really affecting my enjoyment of the game. There's enough enjoyment in trying to discover special events for myself, and if I just happen to complete a challenge that's a nice bonus.

Now in the post-game and still feel I'm seeing something new every run through, but also have no clue how to get the better pictures (or even better than one star) for some Pokemon.

I love the original Pokemon Snap, but it is hilariously inconsistent and weird with how its scoring system works, so hearing people have issue when they're asked for specific things doesn't shock me too much.

game randomly crashes when trying to upload pic
...I guess I'm done with this game, then?...TwT

Also, I keep getting pics where the Pokemon are in mid-blink, it's funny. lol

My new goal is to make the best pics out of this face. lol

EDIT: Got a new one, Inkay. lol

Anyone have any advice on leveling up the Research Camp? I've still got 14,000 exp to go, but even on a good run I'm lucky if I get anywhere close to 2000 exp. Do I just grind?

Yeah I kinda gave up on that, lol.

I know part of the fun is figuring out the secrets yourself, but some of them in this game...in general, are way out there. So for some of them I ended up looking up a guide...

Like the Research Camp, it has two special Vivillons...have fun looking for them on your own. lol

@Joeynator3000 vivillons? I've not even seen them, nor have they been mentioned in any guide I've seen.

I find sometimes even using a guide some of the tricks are difficult to pull off, and even then you have to get the snap at the exact moment.

They've definitely made things trickier than the original.

I think one of them requires you to unlock the second starting point in that area, not sure about the other, but yeah...one of them is like...HOW? How do you figure this out on your own? xD

I've only had this game a few days and so far I haven't heard anything about leveling up a research camp.

Just working through the "story" to unlock new areas is pretty chill, but all these darn optional requests can bite me.

Managed to level up the Research Camp with help from a guide. Still a little stumped on some other stages though.

Here's a excerpt from Gamer Journalist's guide:

To complete An Eevee Party request, enter the lab to find Eevee and Stoutland sleeping. Scan four times and throw Illumina Orb to wake them both up. Scan again to reveal Cutiefly behind the television. Hit two Cutiefly with Illumina Orb to make them follow Eevee. Throw an Illumina Orb at Eevee before it jumps, and take a picture of a glowing Eevee moving its head back and forth.

All of this has to be achieved in a matter of seconds! Really goes to show how obscure some of these methods are - how did anyone discover this?!

jump

@timleon that’s fudging nuts like why do you need to scan it 4 times?!

It seems excessive to keep complaining about the challenges but they are proper stupid and almost ruin the game for me.

@jump Yeah it is a bit ridiculous. I can understand them wanting to make things a bit puzzling - to add to the longevity of the game and to make certain moments truly special when you discover them. But some of the requirements are definitely excessive, and the game doesn't really do a good job of establishing the "rules" (for lack of a better word). For example, to my knowledge, at no point does it indicate that repeated use of the scanner or any other tool is necessary to trigger specific events.

I find anything involving the scanner to be particularly egregious. These never seem to be intuitive and it ends up just being trial and error of just spamming the scanner. And when you're constantly spamming different tools and something happens...you have no idea what it is that you did that actually caused a reaction in the Pokemon.

That would be my number one criticism of this game, actually. A lot of the interactions with Pokemon feel a lot less intuitive in this game than they did in the first game.

@timleon yeah that is nail on the head.

In the first game there was a logic that came from natural experimenting and curiosity. This feels like one of those rubbish point and click adventures that has such a weird random logic on how to complete the puzzle.

There’s one thing they can do to make up for this, a on rails shooter free dlc where the apples are replaced with grenades! ;p

I've got around 20ish hours out of this game and I've snapped all the pokes. So now I can resell Snap and pretty much get my money back on or I can keep it and try to complete the challenges which will pee me off and possibly tarnish my enjoyment I had with it but I would normally try to 100% a game like this as I like the secretes and discovery in it. Hmm...

@jump Maybe give it a break and see if you feel like coming back to it a few days later. I finished it about 10 days ago (still not got all the Pokes though) and felt a bit burnt out...but I still find it nice to come back for a few sessions at a time every few days.

@timleon I've actually been playing Snap inbetween DOOM already, it's been making an odd contrast of testosterone bumping killing and aggression to me going "Oooh, that Squirtle is doing something cute" lol.

Yeah, I'm gonna ease off for now and see how eager I am to get back to playing Snap before I decide to flog it or not.

Watched the credits roll this morning, and according to the play log I've spent at least 15 hours on it so far.

That's more time than I've spent on titles such as Onimusha, Devil May Cry, & Republic Commando, yet it doesn't feel as fulfilling as those titles. I'm NOT saying it's a worse game, just that story completion feels like scratching the surface rather than a satisfying endeavor in & of itself.

The only problem with this is that the meat of the game, these darn challenges, can be super obtuse & it's not fun replaying a course 3-4 times in a row and have nothing to show for it.
