There's no way Link could've killed all those enemies in that one flashback, unless the past was a musou game!

I think that's how Genghis Khan was so successful too.

I enjoyed the original Hyrule Warriors and will be grabbing this one as well...just not at launch. Who doesn't like effortlessly beating up bad guys by the hundreds during their evening respite? Sips tea

I'm just glad we'll have another BotW game that spawns threads about the characteristics of a Zelda game, and discusses the lack of dungeons and a story.

Don't even joke about that. I still get nightmares from last time.

...Clearly I've missed something. Probably because I still haven't played the aforementioned game. XD

I didn't really care for Hyrule Warriors, so I doubt that will change this time around. The gameplay is too monotonous and grindy.

And all I remember is big-tittied anime characters.

Agreed. Irrespective of the game theme it’s core gameplay is the key. I bought fire emblem warriors and played a couple of hours before binning it - boring beyond belief

The Musou series may not be for everyone, but I highly disagree with people stating as fact that it's just boring nonsense and all grind. All of the Warriors games in my eyes have some of the best video game creativity out there. They may not have the highest budget or the best cutscenes, but they do genuinely feel like a lot of love has been put into them and their characters (aside from DW9, that game is atrocious).

I'm really excited for this one, I think it's going to be a blast. It's also worth mentioning that this is the first time, from memory, that Koei is attempting at a canon story from any IP they do not own. It's very interesting to see what they can do with that, given they're working closely with Nintendo to make the game accurate to Breath of the Wild.

It's also interesting to see how they will make a memorable story with a bleak ending. We all know what happens to the champions and Hyrule at the end of the game, but like seen with games like Halo: Reach and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, it's not about the outcome, it's about how you tell that story and build it up to the inevitably dark ending.

This gives opportunity to both teams to elaborate on what transpired and have more character development than what was offered in Breath of the Wild. If the trailer is anything to go by, the Warriors team are putting heavy focus on the narrative of the game and are treating it rather seriously, it's not just going to all be wacky 1000v1 fights without substance.

Who knows, maybe they can even reveal some new characters which could be canon in Breath of the Wild 2 when that game arrives. Stranger things have happened, look at Half-Life: Alyx where in a prequel they happened to connect the dots to the ending of Episode 2 with promise to continue the game from there.

Very intrigued by this and looking forward to when they release more information (which happens to be quite soon).

Edit: Oh, and also, this game looks visually stunning. I really never expected a Musou game to look this good. When Hyrule Warriors came out I thought that was the absolute height of what they could do with the series, but this trailer blew me away. I'd argue in some areas it looks even better than Breath of the Wild.

I really should try to get back into the first one but i never saw myself ever fully completing it. It doesn't take long before i get bored and move on to other games.

You ever see something happen and you feel almost ashamed as a fan that you never thought of it even once yourself? "Use a new Hyrule Warriors to explore the past story of BOTW" is absolutely one of those ideas. I'm so pumped for this. It's so smart. Zelda team doesn't want to fully explore the past of the game, fine. Let someone else do it instead! Perfect compromise, I could not be happier about this.

It is actually something I’d contemplated in the past. I think I’ve actually posted on here once about the likelihood that we’d see HW2 - the original was a big, big hit for Koei Tecmo who develop those games at a rate of about three a year (it feels like). And once you realise a sequel is inevitable then a more focused affair is the natural avenue.

I’d always thought a Skyward Sword prequel showing the war against Demise would be a great premise (I’m pretty sure there was a manga that went to some dark places with that material!). BoTW prequel makes a lot more sense though.

I’m looking forwards to this - having never played a musou game before.

For anyone who didn't see them, the japanese page has posted screenshots that show the map UI, so we know for sure it's not going to be open world. Just restricted areas at key locations.

I think that went without saying really. They couldn't really make a quite constrained genre like this work in an open-world. At least not well. I do hope they have some more Zelda-type gameplay elements though. Maybe some puzzles or mini-dungeon elements you have to do. Or maybe some gameplay strategy elements like in the original game, where you have to climb a pillar and paraglide down onto an enemy camp to access it? I'd appreciate pretty much anything that stops it being purely a button-masher.

Looks like it's gonna be a lot more "natural" in its map design, compared to the first game's convenient overabundance of perfectly square rooms present in every battlefield.

It's gonna be interesting to see how much the gameplay structure changes.

Btw, I wouldn't expect climbing to be a thing. But who knows.

Yeah I dunno if they'll keep climbing in the game. If they do, I doubt it'll be the same as how it works in BotW.

But I can certainly see some benefit to letting you climb ladders and poles and then paraglide down above groups of enemies. That could be useful to combat. Like dropping bombs on them from above as you can in BotW

I was expecting climbing to be Links special, maybe they will have walking be his special instead ;p

I could see them adding the paraglider as part of King Rhoam's special moves if he does become playable.

Considering he's technically the only character that could have that paraglider at that point in time.

Climbing, Idk, perhaps it could replace the hookshot item as a means to access a few special areas. Of course, this would mean we would need to see every character climbing, which could be funny.

I hope they are gonna include a younger badass Impa in this, she was one of my favourites from the first game and she was absent from the memories in BOTW despite being in the game.

@Dezzy I'm disappointed if that is her, I was hoping for something more like her Skyward Sword appearance but with a kasa.

Well you can't really see enough there to say she looks different. Except for the hair I guess.

I was hoping more for the super-hot portrayal in Hyrule Warriors to be honest.
