@jump its from the official Nintendo site, so I'd think so.

@Apportal I meant cannon with BOTW as the Warriors games are normally non-canon like the previous one.

They specifically mention it's the only game that is set in in the prior 100 years before BOTW so it looks like BOTW 2 is not a prequel and this is cannon with BOTW and not a spin off.

@jump Aonuma said Nintendo worked closely with Koei Tecmo "in all aspects of development" so I'm considering this canon unless told otherwise.

@jump oh I see. Don't know crap about the Zelda timeline so I can't help ya there. Also for future reference it's "canon". Just though I'd tell ya.

So who do people reckon is on the roster? There's the champions, Link and Zelda from the trailer and I reckon King Rhoam and Impa could be too but it still doesn't seem that many. I hope Kass shows up.

I'm assuming there's gonna be DLC of past Zelda characters as there's always DLC with Warrior games.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

What an awesome surprise. This is so much more interesting than anything else Koei Tecmo might've otherwise done. I'm so glad they let them use the same assets. That will make it feel like it's just an action expansion to Breath of the Wild. I really hope they add some Zelda elements though so it's not just constant hack and slash.

My main issue with these sorts of games is normally that I never care about the stories at all. This should hopefully be an exception given that I'm already invested in it!

(someone should maybe change the title to this thread so it's a proper name)

Reynoblade

This is going to be the most depressing Zelda game ever, isn't it?

tear me apart if you want, but i personally believe this games story concept should have been what the botw dlc was, instead of more of the same and a tacked on pointless dungeon.

@Reynoblade no that easily goes to the Wind Waker. Because you release that Link's Grandma has passed away by now

I mean, it appears that this is canon, and going to double as both a prequel focusing on the war (something I had a huge write up in the works about why we needed one of so I'm supremely happy). The Champions are hugely popular, so it makes sense that we'd have a spinoff focusing on them. It's the first time we've had a ton of notable characters in one game since OoT so...

They kinda implied that it probably was in one of their interviews. They said it in reference to Botw2, but it seems very likely they were referring to this as well:

Just the fact that their ideas for the DLC quickly became more ambitious so they decided to put them into a new game instead. Frankly that seems more likely true of this than it does of whatever the sequel ends up being!

I think the fact that BotW sold such massive numbers probably affected their decision too. They realized that any other games connected to it would probably be massive successes too.

Apparently the first Hyrule Warriors game the first warriors game to sell a million copies so they were likely to make a sequel to it but with the past games used up they could only really use BOTW. I'd rather it be this than HW 2 to with some extra BOTW characters.

I didn't really care for Hyrule Warriors, so I doubt that will change this time around. The gameplay is too monotonous and grindy.

And all I remember is big-tittied anime characters.

@Octane This appears to be far more in the vein of Persona 5 Scramble rather than previous musou games. In which case, it'll have a much smaller playable cast (It looks like the story will have only the core 6), but each one will be far more developed, and the combat will be far more detailed and interesting. Also, the storyline should likely be far more focused on actually telling a story, rather than being 'how much fanservice can we cram in'.

Which don't get me wrong, I enjoyed HW for what it was. But still.

That's of course only a theory, but the similarities to Scramble are very noticeable. I'd keep an eye on this still, even if you found HW too grindy.

@Octane
Yeah it's not my favourite style of gameplay either, although I can play it easily enough. But I'm really hoping the fact that they're working with Nintendo means they've forced them to include some more Zelda elements to it.

Just the fact that you get to explore Hyrule in the past already makes it more interesting to me. Castle town looks awesome.

This is better than pretty much anything else they could've made, with maybe the sole exception of Xenoblade Warriors
