Is this a common problem, and is there a fix? It has always been really picky about what it charged with, but I found it liked my Mac charger for whatever reason and I stuck with that. Now I cannot find anything it likes to charge with and I sold the Dock because I don't own a TV, so I cannot test it on that. I've tried every charger I can find, but nothing is working.
I just wish'd they stuck with Micro USB because USB C always sucks and has problems.
@scaramoosh I have heard of people having this issue, mostly those who used 3rd party docks or the non-standard "fast charge" USB-C cables. If you haven't used either of those but can confirm the chargers work on other devices, then you should contact Nintendo support.

1. Contact Nintendo support for a repair and put up with their service.
2. Find a 3rd party and hope they can repair your machine.
3a. If you have downloaded content on your system, buy a new Switch and contact Nintendo, tell them your old system broke and you got a new one and you need to be able to activate your account on the new machine. They'll do that for free, remotely. - My friend did it after his Switch was stolen.
3b. If you don't have downloaded content, or just don't care - Buy a new Switch and just make a new account.

I doubt it, I got it in 2017 and Nintendo's support sucks... worse than Apple lol.
Using unsupported 3rd party charger and blaming Nintendo for your issues caused problem is worse then Nintendo Support and worser than Apple. So if you don't do it right the first time - don't go blaming others for your mistake.
@scaramoosh Devices don't ''like'' or ''dislike'' chargers. It either works, or you're destroying the battery using a wrong charger.
How much output does your Mac charger deliver (it says so on the charger)? The Switch should be charged with 5 to 15V at up to 2.6A; anything more than that is likely going to cause damage in the long term.
I’ve never ever had a product damaged by a charger, they only pull what they need, you cannot put more charge in it and kill it.... unless it was poorly designed.
Anyways it’s 2amp and it’s obviously a high quality charger and has worked for years.
as far as i know, even if it is a usb - c port, nintendo didn't made this "port" really compliant to the normal usb-c standards. that's why some docks damaged the switch and what i have read, even some charging packs can damage the switch, or the switch could damage them, because switch uses "more" power through usb-c, than "normal" usb-c devices.
nintendo messed it up a bit ... i mean they've used usb-c. if the specs are not "real" usb-c compliant, they should have used a proprietary port instead ... would cause less problems ...
but i think, the best you can do is to contact nintendo ...
I wonder will Nintendo fix this issue in the rumoured hardware upgrade this year
I will probable wait for the updated switch as this model is two years old
I bought a Microsoft 3amp charger, that’s working now.... the only thing that will. I even tried a switch dock that my mate has and that wouldn’t work lol.
@eRaz0r the only one whom messes up is those not using the Dock to properly charge the Switch and then blaming Nintendo when they use 3rd party and causes damage to Switch. Those stories your reading has no way to verify the claims or legitimacy to the problems.
Having Googled the issue more, seems like poor design from Nintendo as per usual. It’s meant to be a standardised port, but theirs doesn’t play well with USBC lol.... but fanboys love to blame the customer, not Nintendo for making a crap charging port.... oh and a system that doesn’t support Bluetooth headphones, but has Bluetooth built in... makes sense.
except that it’s not a poor design problem. Nintendo provides a dock and charger with the new system. Nintendo allows you to purchase first party charging items. Nintendo warns against doing anything else. Nintendo didn’t make theirs a standardized port.
The only people that can be affected by USB C issues are those that say “Nah, I don’t believe you Nintendo. I’m gonna go ahead and risk this.”
No different than Jeep saying to use a specific coolant for some motors. If you cheap out and use something else, the coolant creates a blockage in the radiator and helps blow a head gasket.
That is a terrible example at least come up with a half decent analogy. Haha may i point you to the car analogy.
Obviously this is more like using a diffrent cable to power your ps4 rather than charge a iphon but still using a offical usb cable doesnt usually damage any devices (except nintendo switchs)
So jump down from your high horse fella.
Edit :
iphone not broken in years from diffrent cables
Ipad same
Ps4 cntroller same
Ps vita same
Nitnedo 3ds same
Bike lights
Portable chargers
Strange how all these device do not break under your example

Anyone can Google to find what they want to find the story of user not using the Nintendo Dock and charging cable to do right charging and blaming Nintendo is a joke. Actually Trolls love to say anything other then it's user Fault that caused the problems. Not following Instructions and using unsupprted 3rd party and causing problems then go blaming Nintendo - ya that gives you alot of No credibility here.
Bike lights are relevant because they have a built in battery and charge just like the battery in a ps4 controller or switch or 3ds or Iphone, but perfect example because you dont even see them as having a chargable battery just like the other electronic devices.
No they said counterfeit ps3 controllers could expolde.
If a iphone was noncompatiable for instance you get the accessory not supported message
I belive this has confused you it was just a advertisement though, it was actually counterfeit ps3 controllers that could explode.
