Anyone have any good ideas for a multiplayer game that has a separate single player game? I love playing switch with my wife but if I want to play the game when she isn't around, I don't want to ruin the story. I know some games have a multiplayer story and a separate single player story line, but I'm not sure if they have any for the switch.

This site actually had a pretty decent couch co-op compilation article fairly recently. Hope this helps:

Mario Party is a great addition I think. I've also had quite some 2p (or more) fun with 30-in-1 Game Collection and Skies of Fury.

Also, LEGO City Undercover is a lot of fun (not sure if it's on the list @Ryzaerian mentioned) and Starlink is supposed to have a great couch co-op option.

@Super_Squishy Hmmm, I can't think of many games with separate multiplayer and single-player story options. Generally speaking, if you want to play a story campaign with a friend, it's the same as the single-player campaign, such as in Kirby Star Allies (although you can have separate save files) and Mario Odyssey. You'd be better off with emergent gameplay experiences, like sports games (including Mario Kart), versus fighters (Street Fighter II, ARMS, etc), or roguelikes such as Enter the Gungeon, where the story isn't the focus.

There are plenty of games with solid single-player campaigns that have multiplayer outside of the story campaign, though, such as Sushi Strikers.

Don't know what your budget is, but I suggest you and your wife focus on finding a game you like to play together - and then you get your own single-player experience elsewhere, whether that's a bargain 50-hour epic like Hollow Knight or a big-budget AAA experience such as Zelda: BotW.

IMHO, the best combination of multiplayer and single-player on the Switch is Splatoon 2 - but you need two Switches for that!

LEGO games on the Switch as mentioned is a good one or two player game but by itself is fun and entertaining either way. There as others mentioned not alot of 1 to 2 player switched games as that would make it more expensive and probably harder to play as well.
