Topic: Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

I dunno, I'm just tired of seeing it, the Peaks I'm fine with mainly because of the music. lol

I like the deserted island, loved free exploring it in Tri/3U.

...........Whatever, point being there's too many 2nd gen maps.and not enough of everything else.

Volcano, Marshlands, Desert, Jungle, I'm forgetting something else...I think.

Going by main normal maps,

Gen 2 has the marshlands, the arctic ridge and the volcano.

Gen 1 has the dunes and hills and forests.

Gen 3 has the deserted island and the misty peaks.

Gen four has the ancestral steppe, primal forest, frozen seaway, volcanic hollow, and the Jurassic frontier (which was new with gen).

...Main normal maps? Wat?...
You're forgetting Gen 2's Desert and Jungle...and GU's Ruined Pinnacle. lol

Still, if you wish to include arenas and elder dragon areas then gen 4 wins. I guess the ruined pinnacle counts for 4 too. So even if we don’t include arenas that’s 6 maps from generation 4.

...My point still stands though...Gen 1 and 3 barely get anything, we basically got all of Gen 2's maps.

Well it was an extremely popular generation. Makes sense to cater to fans of it.

Meh...it was just unbalanced, kinda bugs me.

Hah I hadn't noticed that the hunters in the GenU intro are the same ones from the original Gen intro, but now wearing the armor sets of the four main monsters.

Same weapon types and all.

Anyways, I really do love this game! I think when I played Gen on 3DS I was burnt out on classic MH from 400 hours with MH4U the year prior and 600 hours with MH3U the year before that, and I wasnt fond of playing on 3DS again.

But now, after experiencing World and going back to revisit the classic formula we grew to love the series with, and this time being several years since the last classic game I played, and this time being on Switch where, oh my gosh, we can actually play in HD on a luxurious handheld, and when at home shoot that sucker right over to the TV in the blink of an eye, I feel like I'm really appreciating MHGU this time around. Much, much more than when I played Gen.

I feel like having the 4 different generations of villages, and all the various maps and characters (special shoutout to Aisha, the Moga Sweetheart), on an HD handheld/console, is like... the ultimate MH game I could have ever asked for, at least in terms of the classic formula to celebrate it one last time.

And people focus so much on the QoL changes World brought, that often times the QoL MHGU brings gets completely overlooked. Whether entirely new or improvements that were featured once before and subsequently removed, the list is substantial:

Skipping meal and monster death animations, holding A to carve and gather multiple times, holding A to craft super fast instead of one at a time, disabling traps, transmog, not having to wait 2 minutes to turn in a paw pass for a Harvest Tour, renaming Palicos, buying supply drops, styles, arts and SP mechanic, outside attacks contributing to the mount meter rather than knocking you off, actually playing as a felyne for the first time in the series, Beast type prowler, teaching Palicos skills and support moves, horn melodies can be displayed in the corner of the screen rather than the middle, status messages appearing in the corner, severed monster parts showing on the map, jiggling the fishing lure, cutting/blunt kinsects can be swapped, palico armor pigment, transporting items back from camp, field pouch, turning in account items at any time, and much more I'm sure.

It really makes MHGU a much, much more pleasurable experience versus previous titles in the series. The further back you go the harder it is to tolerate. MH3U is probably the earliest entry I'd recommend to a MH fan nowadays, and even that seems so rigid compared to MHGU. Definitely couldn't do MH Freedom Unite. I dont care if I can play on Vita mapping the D pad to the right analog. It's just too archaic, even in terms of modern classic series standards.

Haha yeah, in both intros you have a team of hunters that consist of:

-A woman with brown hair using a hammer.
-A male Gunner with blonde hair.
-A male hunter with a great sword that uses armor that hides his face.
-And a standard felyne with the traditional fur pattern.

It's also the cast of characters the YouTube animator that makes MH shorts used for the MHgen shorts.

D Island might be my favorite. But that’s probably the nostalgia. That intro theme gets me every time. I am enjoying the new creatures and maps though.

This just might be my favorite MH title now.

What is that you hunting with us? We're just going to do his urgent but if you want to hunt after that by all means join. But I'm trying to help him increase his Hunter rank is the thing, and he's about to do his High rank urgent.
