@Balta666 You're definitely right about needing higher rank monsters.
I'm getting to the stage where it feels mandatory to switch out some of my monsties for ones of higher ranks. As much as I love my Red Khezu, they keep getting one-shotted, so need to be put into the wings for a while.
@DomGC the thing is that it's actually easier to use the stronger monsters with just a bit of leveling up and without the need to beconstantly modifying genes. This is pretty much like the first game and eventually some monsters, while still viable are definitely inferior to others that give better results with little to no gene modification. Invest the same on let's say... A Yian Garuga and a Zinogre and one will definitely show better results. I would only recommend heavily modifying an early monster if you REALLY like it and you want to keep using it.
@JaxonH Basarios should have really high defense, right? I have to imagine it'd be good at tanking hits.
If the thing mostly targets you or your monster and you can tank at least one hit without dying (because it uses rock throw enough that you can't always avoid getting hit by it), then it should be fairly straightforward.
Apparently my next task is taking down a Nargacuga, so that could be fun!
I'm surprised how long it's taking for this Rathalos to hatch. I figured it'd be the driving force in the story, but I'm a good ways into the game now and still no Ratha.
Currently Playing: Yakuza 0: Director's Cut (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@Ralizah Yeah Ratha takes some time to appear. Personally I liked that as it makes the player build a good monster team without depending too much on the OP main one. By the time he appears, while still very good, there's other monsters with a similar force. Basarios does come with nice defense, he was a good member to my team for a decent amount of time.
@Balta666 I've started to pick up on that/pay attention to it more now. Still early on mind, just entered the third area. If I'm right the smell has to do with the genes and the weight is related to the base stats, right?
Smell is gene quality, I'm pretty sure weight is quantity. So, more genes....I think that's how it was in the first game anyways.
Anyways...I really hope a future update fixes the audio issue with Basarios and Gravios, it's bothering me. lol
Also, does the Run Away option ALWAYS works now, it has never failed for me in this game, am I just super lucky or something?
also yes, I'm still alive...

@Joeynator3000 I am pretty sure the weight has nothing to do with genes but with the type of monster and in general the higher rarity level the heavier
So, I'm lvl 17 now and have killed two of the three Royal Tigrexes. Problem is I keep killing the third. It won't retreat! I'm obviously using paintballs, and I keep breaking all of its breakable parts, but it just keeps dying (or, 30% of the time, killing my stupid AI partner; god, I hate AI controlled allies in games!). Is there a secret I don't know about?
Also, what does it mean when you use paintballs and they say "ineffective"? I've been trying to get the Tetsucabra to retreat forever now, but the paintball has no effect. Some other monster I tried this on had a similar issue.
Currently Playing: Yakuza 0: Director's Cut (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@Ralizah The Tetsucabra doesn't have eggs available in the game, that's why it says ineffective. You can check which monsters are available in your field notes, as well as other information like the region in which you find them.
Yeah, check the Monsterpedia, if the monster doesn't have a blue egg icon, no Monstie. Which is kinda stupid, because Tetsucabra basically could be a more defensive Zamtrios. Same type, same body type...why isn't he a Monstie?! >.<

Again, it's a crime that they have the model of Tetsucabra. There's a model of a baby Tetsucabra in Rise, and they could've used that to base off the hatching animation. I can't imagine it could've been that hard to make a ridable one.

@VoidofLight They did add more monsters and even a new scenario and more story in the first one with free DLC. However, I don't think that Tetsucabra will be added as they'll prefer to add strong monsters that people can actually use on PvP.

Actually I don't think any new monsters were added, they just gave the ability to ride Kushala, Rajang, and Teo. Maybe I'm forgetting something else, but yeah, the side story stuff did happen....even though the West never got it for some reason. (not even in the mobile version. >_>)
