@Balta666 locking the framerate only works one way. Locking the framerate means at 30 means it can be anywhere between 1-30, it just won't try to exceed 30 fps.

Balta666

@luckiernut that is not locked at 30fps but capped at 30fps. Two different things.

@Balta666 listen. Locked in English language means one thing and Locked in the context of frame rate means something else. You misunderstand how it works, you can't lock frame rates to not dip below a certain number or else the application would crash.

@Snaplocket i tried the demo and it ran fine for me but it was not visually impressive and did not like mouse and keyboard controls

4k 144 FPS on max settings, and the fans aren’t even revving up. Even a 🥔 could run this game. I think it’s fair to say there’s no performance issues on PC. Also no bugs, glitches or anything else I’ve encountered.

@luckiernut
Use a controller. And make sure you set it to fullscreen in settings (not borderless or windowed), otherwise the resolution won’t go higher and it looks bad).

I think it’s a gorgeous game, even on Switch, and it looks way better on PC. These are screenshots I took playing on Steam.

I’m not other people. And, I can literally screenshot my Settings to show you. Any game where I can push Native 4k 144 FPS and not have the fans speed up, is an easy to run game. If you have problems with this game it’s problems with your PC, not the game.

Minimum Specs per Capcom
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3470 3.20 GHz or AMD FX-6300™ or better
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA®GeForce® GTX 960 / 2GB VRAM or AMD Radeon RX 560 / 2GB VRAM

As I said. Potato could run it. Anyone with a gaming PC should be able to hit 1080p 60fps at a minimum.

I also recommend using a DualSense on PC. You don’t have to, obviously- any controller works, but the rumble in the DualSense seems well optimized. It feels incredible. It’s also one of the games which allows switching button prompts between Xbox, PS and Nintendo. Always appreciate that. Some games only have Xbox button prompts. Not a huge deal because I’ve memorized where the buttons are, and you just figure out which button does what, but it’s still nice to have the right button prompts.

My GTX 970 is ancient and it can still run 95% of games really well. Especially if you're willing to dial down the settings a bit.

Like, it'll even run The Medium better than Switch will run MH Stories 2, and that's a proper next-gen game.

I love how the game lets you speed up battles up to 3X. It helps ensure you don’t get bored with long battles.

It’s also remarkable how similar it feels to mainline Monster Hunter games. They really did take the gameplay hook and just RPG-ify it. Like “oh man, I’m taking a lot of damage and not dealing much out, I need to craft new gear. But for that I need parts. Let me go hunt these monsters a few times quick.” It’s the same loop. Which explains why it’s just as addictive as ever.

So, after getting all the way to the Basarios, I decided to go back to the Switch version and try it out again, but this time on the Switch Lite, just to see if A it’s any better in handheld in that big area, B if the smaller screen would make it less noticeable, C if my feelings toward it would change having slept on it a day or two now.

And I gotta say, it doesn’t feel nearly as bad, in fact it’s making me want to continue my save on Switch now.

Perhaps one factor that is playing into this, is that I just spent the last two hours playing the original MH Stories on New 3DS. My first reaction playing the sequel on the Lite afterwards is amazement at how good it looks by comparison. And it really doesn’t seem to be as bad as it felt when I got frustrated and set it down.

I’m feeling much better about this game on Switch now. Not for docked. I’m avoiding that like the plague. But for handheld? Ya… ya I can do that I think. And frankly, it feels better playing it as a handheld game anyways, just being an RPG. I love curling up in the leather recliner with a handheld.

@luckiernut @Snatcher @VoidofLight
I think you guys should give it a try in handheld mode (provided you didn’t want to play solely docked). I’m feeling much better about this game on Switch now after thoroughly testing in handheld mode today. I’m thinking I might come back to the switch version and it just stick with handheld mode. It doesn’t feel nearly as bad comparatively.

I’m gonna post a video below this in a sec. Check it out.

@JaxonH I played it on a lite and I still think it runs more poorly then it should, Still I think I could put up with it.

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

@JaxonH It's not terrible handheld. Problematic but not terrible. Bad as I thought it was, playing Ys9 a few hours and surviving the agricultural district in Balduq where the game actually stalls at times, mhs2 seems almost satisfactory. Though Rito or Ruto or whatever the Hobbiton clone is called, runs problematically poorly to the point I avoid going there.

I haven't tried docked. I never use switch docked anymore. Sounds like I don't want to, either. Still kind of miffed at OLED for not boosting specs at all while every single new game runs poorly on it. Makes me want to invest in a side phone for xcloud instead of oled switch.

At least I suck at this less that real MH. Still can't beat magnamalo. Got him limping but no dice. This is relaxing in contrast.

Except. That irritating. Infuriating. Obnoxious cat. BUDDY!

@NEStalgia
Naviru has grown on me. I rather like the little guy now.

I could never play games on a phone over internet. There are a number of recent games with issues but if it's too bad I just won't play it, and will play something else instead. Switch Lite is the perfect handheld. Just gotta curate your portfolio to ensure your library are all games that exhibit satisfactory performance.

Ruto Village was one of the problem areas, but it wasn't as bad as the area in the video, which is so vast with incredible draw distance. But ya, handheld mode seems good enough. And I can't tell you how happy that makes me. I wanted this game portably SO BADLY. Granted, I'd prefer it hybrid rather than just handheld, but handheld I can still play both at home or on the go. I'll take it.

@Snatcher
For sure. It's not perfect. But it's not so bad I feel constantly aggravated to the point I don't want to play it anymore. Idk if docked is that much worse or it's just more noticeable on a 4k TV. But in any case, I'm just glad this game turned out to be salvageable.

I’m gonna have to disagree about Ys IX. Anywhere in the city in Ys IX feels like sub-20 FPS. Whether or not PS4 also has Framerate issues seems irrelevant and doesn’t make it any more tolerable on Switch. I’ve never played a game where I’ve experienced framerate issues and thought, “but this other version also has issues, so I guess it doesn’t bother me anymore”. If I experienced similar issues on PS4 I wouldn’t be playing it there, either. That being said, I guarantee PS4 isn’t anywhere even remotely close to as bad as Switch. There’s a massive difference dropping below 60 and dropping below 30. Not that either is acceptable.

But MH Stories 2, even docked, is more playable than Ys IX. That’s not to say there aren’t parts of Ys IX that are ok. As long as you’re indoors it seems to be fine. And to be fair you spend a lot of time indoors. Unfortunately. You also spend a great deal of time outdoors in the city. I completely respect anyone who feels it’s satisfactory for them. I can only speak for myself.

I might end up getting it on both honestly. Switch in order to play it on the go and with friends, and PC in order to play it as my primary platform.
