It would be nice if the site updates the article then, as it got considerable exposure and some people were basing their purchase on that.
I agree. That's why I take unconfirmed rumors like this with some salt and refuse to pass judgement until we have all the facts. Some of the comments on the main site lately have certainly been...reactive. In my case, a partial download wouldn't have stopped me from getting this, but it certainly would've killed some of my excitement.
So I see that most reviewers are giving it an 8.
I haven't played the full game, but if it's pretty much what the demo showed and the reviewers are saying (improved over the first game in every regard) I think that a 9 would be a better score. Anyway, I expected the safe scores already.
@roy130390 It's strange how this one got an 8, despite being better gameplay-wise. I guess the stuttering frames are just that bad.. since it seems to be the common reason as to why people remove points.

@VoidofLight At least it seems to be getting much more attention than the first one and many are praising the game. Arlo is loving it (according to the title) but he hasn't given it a final score. He doesn't use numbers though, but I kinda care about his opinion since he is considerably popular.
@DomGC I would say that it actually surpassed almost everything that Pokemon was doing at the moment, and I loved Sun and Moon unlike many. I also liked in general these types of games and played Digimon games, Dragon Ball Fusions, Little Battlers Experience and others and yet Stories was simply the most engaging and fun for me. Personally while I see that this game is an overall improvement it simply adds more to what was an overall fantastic game so I don't see as much difference as you do. It certainly was a 9 for me since the first entry.
Aside from PVP, which I have been into the Pokemon competitive scene since the 3DS era ( I played them since Red and Blue but wasn't much into multiplayer) I don't see any other apsect in which the Pokemon games won for me, much less the older entries which, as classic and nostalgic as they are, feel way too basic gameplay- wise the more I go back. It's also one big advantage they have, which is that with every entry combat goes even deeper and adds more variety thanks to new moves, mechanics like Mega Evolution/Z moves and Pokemon.
This is the way I see it:
*In terms of graphics and art direction, while Sun and Moon looked nice this game was more colorful and the animations were better, although it's understandable as there were less monsters than Pokemon by long shot. Still, the custcenes and overall game were more beautiful for me despite some performance issues, which also happened in Sun and Moon.
*In terms of story both were endearing saturday morning cartoons. One had Hau, one had Navirou. Pick your poison.
*In terms of gameplay I always found way more fun to explore and get eggs from the randomly generated nests. Exlporation is one of the few aspects that actually has gone worse whith each Pokemon entry for me, and Stories had actual large fields before Pokemon. Pókemon Sword and shield finally added big open areas, but those weren't present in Sun and Moon and even when I finally played Sword and Shield they were simply... boring for me. Combat as I mentioned isn't engaging on Pokemon games unless it's PvP. and Stories at least gave me more challenge in the single player experience. I also find the turn based combat in Stories much more fun .
In terms of music, both games had a great score, however I'd lie if I don't say that Pokemon does have more memorable soundtrack.
So to conclude in my case differences between the quality of those games wasn't as big as you perceive it and in my case, it was in favor of MHS. Sorry for the wall of text.
I'd honestly take the original stories over Sun and Moon, if not anything more than the world design itself. One's ultra linear while the other is more free-form.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@VoidofLight Yup, same here. I still loved Sun and Moon but the world was easily one of the weakest aspects of the game, which is a considerable negative for these types of games for me.
While not a deal breaker, I really hope that a performance patch will come through for the Switch version of the game.
With there being such a clearly defined roadmap of updates, I'd definitely expect them to be able to iron out things a little bit.
@alpacatears Capcom mentioned a 500Mb day one Patch which is quite chuncky already. So hopefully at least a bit of that may be for performance (not having my hopes up but...)
@DomGC
they solved that fortunately, low level monster gain bigger extra-exp gain levels very quickly to catch up with higher level, and you can send them to do exploration mission to gain more + extra materials
@roy130390 it was fine but, in my opinion, nothing more than that. At worst I'd call it mediocre as hell. It sure as hell wasn't a 9 out of 10, either way.
My biggest problem was probably how AWFUL it was to pick up a new monster late into the game because it was near impossible to have them catch up without spending hours and hours on grinding (which seems to be something they fixed in Stories 2, according to some previews I listened to) and it just killed a game I was already starting to lose interest in about 2/3 into its story. The gameplay as a whole was good, if a bit unrefined due to it being the first in its series, but I also hated that the rider barely scratched the monsters and felt like they were only there to support the monstie you didn't quiiiite have full control of.
Again, I'm not saying it was bad or anything. But I'd argue the Pokémon games releasing around its debut (and since) are all much better and i can tell just from the demo and the things people who already got to play the game say that Stories 2 will probably be able to hook me in a way that the first game just completely failed to do. And I really wanted it to do so, I tried to get through it three times before I managed to actually see the end of the story.
It's to Monster Hunter what OoT was for me to Zelda, in a sense. It took me 16 years to bring myself to beat that one lol
yes is true they solved that fortunately, low level monster gain bigger extra-exp gain levels very quickly to catch up with higher level, and you can send them to do exploration mission to gain more + extra materials
