I’ve just started Metroid Dread on my switch lite (physical copy) and on the first mini boss and then the first main boss my switch just freezes and makes a high pitched noise.
After a reset of my console it happens every time I face a boss.
Have tried other games and none of them are causing the issue.
Has anyone had this happen to them or any ideas what could be causing it? I’m wondering if I should delete my save data and start again or is it worth getting another copy of the game to try out?
If not I wonder if it’s worth contacting Nintendo to see if it’s a hardware error.
First off, I assume you have updated to the latest version? Try turning your Switch completely off, (hold the power button for a while), wait 30 seconds then back on, should sort it out.

Thank you. I just checked and the game and the switch are the latest versions. I could try deleting the game update and redownloading it.
Thanks to everyone who replied. As an update I did try playing the game on a different profile and the same thing happened at the same point of the game so it can’t be a dodgy save file.
I have been paying on the internal storage so it’s not the sd card.
I did manage to get a new copy of the game and annoyingly the same freeze and crash happened at the same point of the game. So it can’t be the cartridge.
Must be a problem with the hardware. Does anyone know what to do next with contacting Nintendo? (I am in europe btw).
@Kirika Google: Nintendo support + (your country/region) + contact
It's not like you'll have options, I don't think. Which ever way you go, I think you'll end up at the same page/location. They'll want your info, switch serial number. You can try to ask what turnaround time is. When there's not pandemic restrictions or parts shortage, Nintendo aims to get you your console back in two weeks.
There is a new feature on on Nintendo support's site for north america, called "My Nintendo Dashboard" that lets you see the status of your repair, which is probably a very welcome feature. I don't know if that feature is available worldwide, though. https://mysupport.nintendo.com/
I’ve been waiting for the Christmas holiday to finish before contacting Nintendo but since then the freezing issue has happened on other cartridges and even downloaded games.
Comparing with another switch lite the colour also seems washed out too. Not sure if anyone here as heard of these issues before?
To update the thread I have now received my switch back from Nintendo.
Well it isn’t my switch, it’s a completely different switch. The serial number isn’t the same so I’m guessing it’s a refurbished one, but it’s in mint condition.
I must say I’m impressed with how quickly Nintendo turned this around!
