Seems like Splatoon 3 Splatsville is could make for a new track, but I'm guessing they'd never add Splatsville it to MK8. Seems like a missed opportunity.

I think a Splatoon level would be a great change of pace, but I would also wholeheartedly welcome Kirby, Metroid, and/or WarioWare-themed courses, as I think there is a lot of potential with these franchises in particular.

I also wish they would make more use of amiibo and add some extra costumes to the mix.

Waluigi wiggler has been dethroned as of the new patch. What are the new best kart combos?

I figure I'll list my predictions for wave 5:

Feather Cup
Tour Los Angeles Laps
SNES Vanilla Lake 2
GCN Daisy Cruiser
Wii Koopa Cape

Cherry Cup
Tour Vancouver Velocity
GBA Luigi Circuit
GCN Dino Dino Jungle
Piranha Plant Cove

Characters - Petey Piranha

All right, may as well rank the wave 4 courses since I feel I've played them for a good amount of time now.

1) Yoshi's Island
2) Singapore Speedway
3) DK Summit
4) DS Mario Circuit
5) Waluigi Stadium
6) Amsterdam Drift
7) Bangkok Rush
8) Riverside Park

As I said earlier, I like everything from wave 4. Yoshi's Island is just a masterpiece of a course to me, especially for someone who grew up with the SNES game of the same name.

A lot of these Mario Kart Tour courses feel so generic.

The next Tour track is Wii Dry Dry Ruins.

Also the Mii Racing Suit teaser shows a Piranha Plant so the track in 2 weeks time is likely Yoshi's Island.

Well, that’s a pretty good sign that Dry Dry Ruins will be in the BCP. Which would be awesome, as it’s easily the best desert stage in the whole series in my opinion.

@StarPoint I hope they keep the constantly filling sand pit near the end of the track: it was such a subtle yet effective way of making each lap unique from each other!

@StarPoint I don't think it will unless the pass has more than 2 Wii tracks left. I don't see them skipping Koopa Cape and wave 3 ending on 3DS Rainbow Road pretty much confirms wave 6 will end on Wii Rainbow Road.

StarPoint

@Grumblevolcano Yeah, I guess the first half of the pass only had 3 Wii tracks total. And I agree that Koopa Cape and Rainbow Road are practically shoe-ins, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

To avoid neglected characters & karts, should Nintendo just do something like Crash Team Racing? They eliminated idividual character & kart stats so you could use any character & kart/parts you want. You just choose your Driving Style. It's very similar to Mario kart weight class system, heavy weight, mid weight, light weight, but CTR also has the Drift driving style.

@WoomyNNYes That might make things more player-friendly, since that would allow players to just pick the character and kart parts they like the most, based on how they look. Or they could pick a character/kart combo that looks a bit goofy, lol. All depends on what mood you're in. I like playing as a variety of characters, mostly the good guys like Mario and Toad for example, though I've gone by just fine in online races. I've been using the pipe frame and standard tires recently, just because I've been in an old-school mood lately. lol

Perhaps for the next Mario Kart game, they'd have a feature that's similar to Crash Team Racing's driving styles, though I'd imagine they'd have some kind of incentive for using different characters. Maybe they'd bring back the special items from Mario Kart: Double Dash, and give certain items to certain characters. Mario having the fireballs, and Peach having the hearts to get items on the ground, to give a couple examples. Much like how you could use different weapons in between matches in Splatoon.

Just for fun, and since I have more experience with the other DLC courses, I'll go ahead and rank the other waves' courses as well. I pretty much stand by the rankings that I made for wave 4.

Wave 1:
1) Coconut Mall
2) Paris Promenade
3) Shroom Ridge
4) Toad Circuit
5) Ninja Hideaway
6) Choco Mountain
7) Tokyo Blur
8) Sky Garden

Wave 2:
1) Kalimari Desert
2) New York Minute
3) Sydney Sprint
4) Mario Circuit 3
5) Waluigi Pinball
6) Snow Land
7) Mushroom Gorge
8) Sky-High Sundae

Wave 3:
1) Merry Mountain
2) Peach Gardens
3) 3DS Rainbow Road
4) Maple Treeway
5) London Loop
6) Rock Rock Mountain
7) Boo Lake
8) Berlin Byways

@TheBigBlue
This is somewhat of a misconception. The Waluigi-Wiggler combo was not nerfed, (otherwise time trial recordings would be messed up), but a lot of vehicles and characters received upgrades, particularly every heavy that isn't Waluigi. Waluigi-Wiggler is still somewhat viable, and the Wiggler is still very much alive, it's just not the best anymore.

Yeah, pretty much.
It’s crazy Nintendo would make such drastic alterations to the meta. Between this, the absolute broken DK Summit, and the new shortcut on Berlin Byways, it’s clear that Nintendo is valuing competitive play in this game more than ever before.

I wish there was a way to filter the online system, I'm getting tired of the game randomly picking 200cc classes!

💚🌸🤍🌸🖤

D-Star92

@JadeKitsune Yeah, the game can pick 200cc sometimes, but it's more rare than 150cc and mirror mode, I find. 200cc is very difficult indeed, but I do have a tip that may help you out. When you're playing in 200cc, try braking while drifting and charging mini-turbos. This technique is called brake drifting, I learned about it on a YouTube video about advanced drifting techniques, and it's helped me out a ton. Just make sure you don't brake for too long to keep your mini-turbo charge. It may take a bit of practice, so you might want to try brake drifting in 200cc Grand Prix or Time Trials. Hope this helped.

I noticed something about the wave timings. It's such that 2 waves are released in time for the next PAX tourney (which has tracks chosen from those 2 waves). Waves 1 and 2 released in time for the PAX West 2022 tourney meanwhile waves 3 and 4 released in time for the PAX East 2023 tourney. So waves 5 and 6 may be released in time for the PAX West 2023 tourney.
