My initial impressions of Wave 3 are extremely good so far. This is easily the best wave we've gotten yet.

London Loop's layout is very interesting and is probably my second favorite Tour track.

GBA Boo Lake is a very short and sweet course. The graphics look nice and the layout with the anti-grav is pretty fun.

Rock Rock Mountain is one of my favorites from 7, and it's still great here. MK8's nerfed paraglider physics don't make this one quite as fun to glide around in, but the verticality is still excellent and there are some really cool shortcuts, especially with some of the pipes.

Maple Treeway is a near-perfect remaster of the original. The half-pipes present here are super cool and a great reference to the original. The only change I'm not super keen on is the removal of the big bouncy net at the end. But other than that, this is a phenomenal recreation of the Wii map and the music is excellent.

Berlin Byways: A pretty decent map overall, but I found the layout to be kind of confusing. The whomps were a nice touch, though.

Peach Gardens: hooooly cow I was not expecting that final lap. The whole race I was like "What's with that extra road at the bottom left and then the course just makes you go BACKWARDS. Genuinely was not expecting that at all. I'm a little bummed that some of the flower garden shortcuts got removed, but overall I can't deny that this is a great map here. Also, the music is phenomenal. I never would have thought to use a violin to remake the song but it fits so well with the stage's theme.

Merry Mountain is a very solid track. I was kind of hoping that it would be a Mount Wario-esque stage, but where you start at the bottom and work your way to the top. The fact that it loops isn't bad, but just maybe some missed potential.

And what else is there to be said about Rainbow Road? Easily one of the best courses in the entire series. I was playing it and it was just surprise after surprise. The music is awesome and I love how it changes when you're on the moon. When you fall off that one track, my initial thought was that you would just get grabbed by Lakitu. But you just keep driving on the moon!! It is just insanity. The track is gorgeous, the music is phenomenal, and the overall layout is just so much fun.

On another note, has anyone noticed some changes to the item balance? I've been getting triple bananas and green shells in first place, which has never happened to me before.

@Fizza Yeah, blue shells only on Baby Park works so well. I tried it and it was so hilarious.

@Fizza You ready to play online with me? I'm thinking of setting up a private room so we'd have more control over what courses we'll race on.

@MarioLover92 Literally just finished downloading the DLC there, just post the code here and I'll be right there! Oh, and maybe put some CPU's in there as well: it'll spice things up nicely

@Fizza OK, I made a room. You don't need to punch in a code.

Not sure whether a bug or a mechanic change but lightning no longer makes you fall if you're gliding.

@MarioLover92 Thanks for that man! Wave 3 is absolutely fantastic and probably my favourite of the Pass so far (with Berlin Bypass and Maple Treeway probably being my favourites out of the lineup). Would love to organise something like this when Wave 4 comes out around March time!

@Fizza You're welcome, it's been fun! I love wave 3's courses as well, I'd say my favorite ones are 3DS Rainbow Road, Peach Gardens, and Merry Mountain. London Loop and Maple Treeway are really good, too.

@Grumblevolcano I noticed that too. Have you seen any official patch notes yet? I’ve been looking around but I can’t seem to find any

Man remember when people thought Super Mario Party getting online in 2021 was a random, late update?

Like I wanna believe that this took like a day to implement, its just that no one had ever considered it until like a couple of weeks ago. That's obviously not what happened, but I want it to be.

Right, here's my slightly organised thoughts on the Wave 3 tracks:

  • London Loop: Pretty good, if a bit safe. Really like the change on Lap 3 where you go along the canal and there are some shortcuts that give me big Double Dash/Wii vibes but other than that it's just a good track in a sea of great ones and doesn't stand out as much as a result. The music, while good and I'm a very big fan of it, also feels like it doesn't exactly fit the setting (heavy rock for a muggy London street? Really?).
  • Boo Lake: Genuinely shocked by how much I like this one. If I had to describe it in one sentence, it'd be 'simple but incredibly fun'. They took the original layout, tweaked it a bit and added some genius aesthetic/gameplay tweaks like the lighting and underwater/anti-gravity section. This is definitely going to go into my 'love for serious races' list alongside tracks like Wario Stadium, Yoshi's Circuit, etc.
  • Alpine Pass: This is literally the exact same track as 7 and I couldn't care less because that was one of my absolute favourites and it's still amazing here. Also, the music is so American I can already see the bald eagles flying overhead, fantastic stuff.
  • Maple Treeway: What more do you want me to say? One of the absolute best tracks in the series comes back more beautiful than ever between the graphics, music and autumnal vibe. Great closer to the first Grand Prix.
  • Berlin Bypass: Unironically my favourite out of all the tracks on offer. Each lap changes things up so considerably that it felt great never really knowing what was coming up ahead. Couple that with one of the best songs of the wave and some hilarious obstacles (they referenced the fall of the Berlin Wall with goddamn WHOMPS, that's so funny) and you have perhaps my favourite IRL Location Tour track so far.
  • Peach Gardens: Loved this track in Wii and was absolutely loving it again in 8 Deluxe. AND THEN THEY MADE IT GO BACKWARDS?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!! Cannot believe I'm saying this, but they genuinely improved upon one of the best tracks from DS. What a world we live in.
  • Merry Mountain: This one is definitely carried by it's aesthetic but man is that aesthetic absolutely phenomenal. It brings back memories of small miniatures my family used to have all around the house come Christmas time and that, combined with the houses, floating trains and lightshow all around give this one hell of a memorable look. The track itself is fine with a good beginning and meh end but the looks are what sway me towards this one a lot more than I would otherwise.
  • Rainbow Road: I genuinely started to cry when they revealed this one with the music accompanying it in the reveal trailer and I'm so glad to say it's as beautiful as it was when I first played it all those years ago. The 3-section layout is still inspired, the individual parts flow together beautifully, the final mad-dash towards the finish line is still delightfully frantic and the music is, to put it simply, one of the greatest compositions in MK history. This is the best Rainbow Road in the series history and to finally have it in HD brings a tear to my eye.

Overall, definitely my favourite wave so far and can't wait to see what they do in W-4!

The next Tour track is GBA Snow Land:

Only got DS Shroom Ridge left and then Tour has caught up with the Booster Course Pass.

Great review!
I felt mostly the same way! I was shocked with amazement numerous times, when I played this wave yesterday. Definitely the best wave yet! Now I'm excited about what's to come next year, considering the waves so far keep getting better!

After having played a lot of wave 3, here are my rankings:
1. GBA Boo Lake
2. Wii Maple Treeway
3. DS Peach Gardens
4. 3DS Rainbow Road
5. 3DS Alpine Pass
6. Tour London Loop
7. Tour Berlin Byways
8. Merry Mountain

Really liked all the courses though the presence of 3DS Rainbow Road does make me a bit sad as a reminder that it didn't make the cut in Smash Ultimate (that and Pac-Man were the only stages from Smash 3DS that weren't in Ultimate). Definitely the best wave of the 3 so far and I really look forward to waves 4-6. Hopefully they make up for no Double Dash tracks by having some waves with 2 Double Dash tracks (like how wave 3 has 2 3DS tracks). Custom item select like in Smash was an absolutely fantastic idea like Blue Shells only is absolute chaos.

Grumblevolcano

PikaPhantom

Might be a hot take, but the only thing I find worse about Peach Gardens in 8 Deluxe is that the maze is less interesting with the simpler layout and the Item Boxes not following the Chain Chomps. And it is a bit of a shame that they blocked off the useless side route at the start when even Tour kept it and balanced it a bit with Dash Panels. But the shortcut being larger than in Tour and thus not leaving us with a weirdly wide turn, the streamlined design making more sense with the more elegant theming (going around random flower patches was kind of dumb anyways), the roundabout replacing the somewhat awkward peace sign-like maze with an added Piranha Plant obstacle to boot, and of course, the lap 3 route change? All great changes that make the course's inclusion worthy

@KAIRU @Grumblevolcano @MarioLover92 @Fizza @Snatcher @StarPoint @kkslider5552000 @dionysos283 @PikaPhantom Okay so there are a few HUGE problems with the patch that released yesterday. First Spiny Shells no longer appear on the mini-map after being thrown and secondly there's a bizarre bug that happens with the Triple Banana item where if another person runs into one while they are spinning around you sometimes the collision detection messes up and both of you end up spinning out instead of just the person who ran into it. 😒
