Turbo Nozzle is really fun on the water surface.

@BlueOcean I mostly played SMO with the Pro Controller and the controls were still great. I was still able to get around, even though there were some moves that were Joy-Con exclusive. As far as I can remember the only instance of tacked-on motion controls with the Pro Controller was that while you're climbing, you could shake it to climb faster.

That reminds me. For SMG, if you're playing in handheld mode or with the Pro Controller, they made it so that you can press Y to do the spin attack. I wonder if the Pro Controller should be tilted for collecting Star Bits with the pointer.

And yes I agree, a checklist for collected Blue Coins would be awesome.

@MarioLover92 I have a Switch Lite, some moons encourage me to use motion controls and it's so awkward but I agree, the regular controls are smooth.

@MarioLover92 I played Odyssey on the Pro controller too. Super fluent and responsive controls, but that’s probably due to the Pro Controller being the best ever.

If you had to tilt the Pro for SMG that would suck IMO. The pro controller for the Wii was shaped better to point, the one for the switch is shaped better for platforming, and is more comfortable to hold vertically. But I never liked the Wii controller, so if you did you’d probably prefer the pointing position better.

I wish there was a checklist for blue coins too. Like Odyssey had for its moons. And that every one of the blue coins could be available in every level, not spread apart where some would be in one level and not in the next. That way I didn’t have to check every damn level for the coins.

I wish the original Luigi’s Mansion gets released on Switch. I enjoyed the 3DS re-release and would like to play that on Switch with Amiibo support.

Don

@Don highly unlikely from Nintendo’s part, for one because it was just released on the 3DS a Two years ago, and the switch just got Luigis Mansion 3 last year. It’ll probably happen sometime just not in the near future. But I would like that too.

I always enjoy just messing around with the rocket and turbo nozzles. Wish you could switch between all three types at any point.

I remember very little about this game, except those dumb coloured boxes you need in order to switch nozzles.

Eel

Yeah, you can only have one secondary nozzle attached at a time, and unlocking the boxes takes some time.

I just realized a good way of solving the pointer problem for Galaxy 2 (and Galaxy 1 to some extent) would be to have it guided by the gyroscope function. That would allow you to do Yoshi's tongue while still holding both controllers in handheld mode.

Having never played Sunshine, would someone mind explaining why some people seem to love the game while others find it to be meh? I'm genuinely curious.

I'd also like to see this, especially with a HD coat of paint. As mentioned above however, I likewise find this a bit unlikely due to the 3DS just receiving that game. That was how I was able to play it for the first time TBH.

The mechanics are the most robust in the series until Odyssey and Delfino Plaza is arguably the best hub world in the series, and has a surprising amount of story.

BUT, the game has a lot of padding, has a inexplicably bad progression system, has some truly abysmal levels, and has occasionally glitchy physics.

Another reason it's meh for me is that the secret levels lack a lot of the heart and soul that later 3D Mario games would add to the linear levels. Galaxy's levels were linear, but the took place in an atmospheric and themed area. As someone who finds the generic theming of the NSMB games tiresome, I wasn't huge on the secret areas either.

At the end of the day Sunshine has the same brilliance the other 3D Mario games have in them, but what it lacks is the coat of polish. And as a result, there are people who can overlook that lack of polish, and others for whom it completely obstructs enjoyment of the game.

Who else is scared of the limited release and is considering buying physical and the digital for reassurance?

Look, Super Mario 64 is my all time favorite Mario game so this is no joking matter. Lol. God forbid your cartridge acted up, who wants to have to go on Amazon in 1,2,3yrs and see a copy for $300 due to supply and demand.

I mean c’mon, right!? It freaks me out. I personally think this “limited” time only shenanigans will not stay the course and at the least it will stay on the eShop forever, but that’s just my guess. It makes beyond no sense to not do that. Nintendo would make a fortune off late Switch console buyers and current. I don’t care what anyone says with the whole “but it’s only for a special 35th birthday release and that’s why”. Makes zero sense.

If we get to Feb of next year and that’s not happening and we’re getting warning articles that it’s disappearing in March I’m gonna do it and basically waste $60 on it for emergency scenario. I already preordered my physical copy at GameStop the day it was announced. @NintendoByNature

@Tyranexx people like the graphics, story, and overall layout. However, some people don't like the unfair level design, tedious shine sprites, and controls. I'm of the latter, but I still find it a good game.

@iKhan, @Apportal Ah, makes sense. I've played a few games with one or more similar issues, the kind that make you say "Yeah, this game is great, but [blank] and [blank] hold it back from being a top-tier game". I still plan on at least trying out Sunshine with an open mind, so keeping those points you listed in mind may help. Thanks!

I'll chime in on sunshine's devisive reviews. I personally loved most of it. Graphics, gameplay, music were all great as usual with mario games. However the blue coin collecting which was basically filler for the lack of worlds wasn't much fun. You have to buy some shine sprites rather than collect them. There's only 9 worlds too when mario 64 had 15.

Another reason could be the lack of almost any familiar mario enemies such as Goombas, Koopa troopas etc. Even bowsers appearance was kinda downplayed. They wanted you to think maybe he wasn't even in the game. It felt like mario 2 all over again. Mario sunshine is strange. Even for a mario game.

@Tyranexx the biggest thing I had with Sunshine was it's controls, but hopefully those will be fixed on the Switch.
