A lot of people never finish Zelda games. It's easy to forget what you were supposed to be doing if you take a break from the game. Breath of the Wild is a big game but, it has a great mission log in your pause menu. If you've taken a long break, don't remember what you're supposed to be doing, the mission log shows you where you're supposed to go with a pin on a map, and has a brief summary describing your mission, who you talked to, and what they said/wanted. Breath of the Wild is a revolutionary, magical game. If you don't mess around with side quests, you can beat Gannon in 30-40hrs. If that sounds too big, maybe Link's Awakening would be shorter. I don't know if it will have a mission log as good as BOTW to keep you on track if you take a break.
You can wait until reviews are out for Link's Awakening, and decide then?
I'm in the minority who believes BotW is overrated. An expansive, beautiful open world, yes. But I despise item degradation and I prefer dungeons over shrines. Link's Awakening all the way.

Links Awakening is appealing to me more with it being only slightly more expensive than BotW, and the Mario elements within it too. It looks a lot of fun.

In case you didn't see my late edit above, you could wait until Link's Awakening reviews are out, and then make a decision. That will take some of the mystery out of the choice.
If you want to spend endless hours wandering around an amazing world, collecting hundreds of items, cooking up recipes, etc. go for BotW. If you want a really fun game to play and finish, Link's Awakening.
The Wii U is still the world's best console. Buy one today!
hey might dumb down the remake to make it easier but the original links awakening is way harder than breath of the wild
...is it?
I mean, in that its more fair and has much more options to avoid things being difficult, sure. But if you go into challenging situations in BOTW, especially early on, its almost undoubtedly the most challenging Zelda outside of the original NES games.
@kkslider5552000 hmm yeah I suppose it depends on how you approach breath of the wild but I never struggled with it. The progression was very gradual for me but from what I gather the experience was quite unique for everyone so maybe it was more difficult depending on how you played it.
I suppose in combat and whatnot botw can get difficult if you haven't got high level armour and crafted items but again I found the progression gradual enough in both power ups and skill that I never really struggled.
I could never finish Links awakening as a kid and I still struggled when I replayed it to the end about 7-8 years ago. From what I remember it was because where to go at certain points wasn't sign posted clearly enough so it was easy to get lost. I mean that in an pointless way, not in the enjoyable aimless way of botw. I may have struggled with a puzzle or two as well but I can't remember that for definite as it was a good while ago that I played it.
Don't get me wrong I absolutely adore both games but I personally found Links awakening to be the more challenging of the two. Possibly even the most challenging Zelda game I've played. Actually scratch that, the first one is hardest as I've never actually finished it lol

Dude, I am with you 1,000%.
I am sooooooo stoked for Link's Awakening. And the dungeon assembler thing is looking cooler than I thought, actually. Might be more of a time sink than I originally suspected.
How much free time do you have. Fully completing Links Awakening will take like 35 hours. Fully completing Breath of the Wild will take about 150 hours.
Link's Awakening VS Breath of the Wild is a matter of spending 60 bucks for a 20h game or 60 bucks for a 200h game.
Though I guess the new ''dungeon maker'' in Link's Awakening adds a couple of hours.

You're all up on your negative posts today, my friend. Just came from your SMM2 post.
Do you judge a game's quality/worthiness exclusively based on time played relative to cost? There are some truly excellent games out there that are short. Some are even considered some of the best games of all time.
I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong with either. I obviously haven't played Link's Awakening on Switch yet but I like the original game. I personally prefer Breath of the Wild though. I've spent about 100 hours in BOTW's world and I haven't even finished the game yet. I certainly could have if I tried to but I never felt like I was in a hurry. I just enjoyed exploring the world and there's still much more for me to see.
It's its, not it's.

You project. Breath of the Wild is a much better game, a much more complex game in any way, and it's much bigger. The first argument is my opinion, the rest are facts. And still they want us to fork out the same money for a 26 year old Game Boy remake. I don't think that is very appropriate. My expectations about pricing are just different. To be fair, Breath of the Wild was originally 69.99, but for Link's Awakening I expected it to be in the 39.99 range, just like Captain Toad, a small but very polished panaroma game. 59.99 is stretching it way too much, no day 1 buy anymore, for me at least.
Would you start with BotW, or go for Links Awakening?
Both and play them at different times so you have a better enjoyment of their game play. BOTW first since that was released first and then Awakening as that isn't released yet.
