Haven't gotten one just yet, but I was about to. See I heard numerous rumors that by the end of 2019 a new switch will be released with a better battery & a better screen among other improvements. I rather wait for the better version of the switch however many sources contradict those rumors that the "improved switch" wont be out at all. So I'm conflicted at the moment, and was wondering if any of you have any information on the subject or not? Thanks in advance guys!
The rumors about a new SKU likely have a grain of truth to them as it will inevitably happen at some point. Anything past that, like better battery life, hardware improvements, etc. is purely speculation.
If you have the funds, there's nothing wrong with picking one up. Even if a newer SKU shows up, you could trade it in and upgrade. I'm also Switchless for the time being but do plan on getting one in a few months.
@bixente
this isn't hyperbole at all.
because of Smash Bros Ultimate (and the Switch itself, by extension) I've started going out more, meeting people to play my favorite game with.
I've shared my system with significant others, I've livened up boring parties (yes just like Karen)...
heck, I'm on my way to a date with a gal at a Smash Ultimate tournament RIGHT NOW.
I don't think Nintendo will release a Switch with improved hardware or anything like that so soon. The new SKU is probably that 2nd Switch unit that Japan got a few months back which was just another Switch and a pair of joy-con. No dock, no charger.
So yeah go ahead a get a Switch if you can afford it.
These pretzels are making me thirsty

if the games you want to play are like Xenoblade and giant world mmo's that you can basically play on ur pc.. then wait..
but if all you want are baseline lag free games such as Pokemon, Zelda, Splatoon, Mario Odyssey, etc.. then right now would be a great time to pick one up.

Can you elaborate on that? How do you trade it in? Do you bring it to a place like Gamestop and add some $ till you have enough for the upgraded version?

I wanna play Xenoblade, and also the Fire Emblem: Three Houses that hasn't been released yet. Also Splatoon and Super Smash Bros. Perhaps even Zelda, but I need to see more gameplay footage.

That's pretty cool, the PS4 did the opposite effect on me. Made me more anti social if anything.
Cannot wait to try something new.
Overall I'm gonna commit to a switch, as long as I can exchange it later on for the upgraded version (if it ever comes out) I'll be ordering it from Amazon in the next few weeks.
In my opinion, I would suggest getting one now or whenever you can afford it. the switch is incredible, and I doubt they are going to make a newer model as soon as 2019, so if you have the money and want to purchase one, then do as you please.
Maybe wait to see what happens in the January direct? There will more than likely be a January direct and if nothing gets announced on the new switch pro front, go ahead and buy the current model.
@FrankGarrett: I was thinking along the lines of how GameStop handles hardware tradeins in general. Bring in your used system/games etc., get so much off.
Currently playing: Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake (Switch), Hades (Switch)

There is no official information but you can be sure that Nintendo will lie as they have done every single time regarding new hardware. They have a very clear PR about this and they won't let you know until the new hardware is officially revealed because, well, they want to sell what's on the shelves right now.
I don't have any connections to Nintendo in Japan but we all know that they will release a revised Switch and, this is my personal bet, it will be released in 2019. So, if you have waited almost two years, perhaps you'd better wait a bit longer and get the revised model.
@FrankGarrett Like others have said, those rumors are just rumors. If cost is a concern, you probably can find one used at this point. I know I have started seeing them pop up in resale shops in my area (although I live in Japan, it might be different elsewhere).
The Switch at this point has an awesome library of games, and the versatility of the device really is quite nice. I regularly do play in both portable and TV modes and nearly every game supports both. (there are a tiny handful of titles that only work in portable mode and require the touch screen, but no major titles, just a handful of small indies)

What a contradiction in itself. You talk about as though you know but your own statements clearly tells otherwise here. One should talk about something they have no inside track on.

Most have heard but are vaporware right now. Why would they wait - the revised model isn't going to be a GPU powerhouse like what others wants. NS 2.0HD is going to come out anytime soon just due to the shear dimension of the Switch itself and trying to cool that 1080HD portable or 4K screen will be a Everest undertaking.
@SwitchForce No contradiction at all, my opinion is based on past events since the first Game Boy almost 30 years ago. A revised Switch is a given, the only thing that I said that I (nor you) do not know for sure is when and that my personal bet is 2019. I have no clue why you see a contradiction there.
On somewhat of a same topic. Considering buying a refurb Wii u for VC mostly. And maybe some physical copies ( wind waker, super mario 3d world etc ). Found it pretty cheap on game stop. 3 games and the console plus gamepad for $160. Worth it or should I wait to see what happens with nintendo switch online this year? I'm sure they'll say more during a January direct. Side note, I have a 2ds (original, not xl) and a switch. I just really want to play more than just nes and gameboy games.
