@Yorumi : You would expect that people that want a box would also want physical media to accompany that box. While I would like to buy PC games, for example, I haven't done so in years because the physical market is virtually nonexistent. It's absolutely stupid to me that people will buy codes in a case, but won't buy a Blu-ray disc version of PC software (not that any publisher has ever tested the waters with a Blu-ray release of PC software to start with).
Further to the fact, I would be happy to produce my own personal Blu-ray copies of PC software if they weren't crippled with DRM, but alas, I don't have that as an option either.
Porygon did nothing wrong.

It's not like buying a 8 or 12 gig cart is going to hurt companies anyway, it costs money to produce physical so why not just go all out? Once they buy say 10K units of 8 or 12 carts the cost will be very small to the company (probably around $1 or $2 per unit).
The main reason I got a sd card was for vc purchases like on my 3ds and the occasional DL only game and 128 gb now is filling up fast between doom, wolfenstein and Bayonetta
I really don't understand this whole digital only thing, maybe Im just too old to understand?
I get that its more convenient, takes up zero space at home etc.but seriously guys when you buy digital you don't actually own the game and nintendo, sony, apple have the right to remove it from their servers for whatever reason.
What if Nintendo gets sold or gets shutdown and their servers are no longer available?
What if they are subject to a cyber attack and their servers are compromised?
I may just be being paranoid lol,but I would much rather have a copy I can pick up and play in 10,20,30 years time,or something I can actually sell, lend to a friend if needed.
Its up to us to fight this practice of digital/half digital because once its all digital thats it.No more nice artwork on cases,no more lending, selling unwanted games,no more retro collections in 20 years time!
As citizen Smith said...Power to the People!(showing my age big time!)
Rant over ...............
@Microjak I am right there with you. But it is not the end!
Servers are down but everything is stashed somewhere and when the console is no longer supported it is easier to hack and play all the stuff that is not available anymore. This is the only way.
However I just love how I can just pick up my GBA SP/DS/3DS put a cartridge inside and play without ANY worries because I OWN that little chip encased in plastic!
this practice is totally anti consumer. I'd prefer if they didn't even try with this sorry excuses for physical releases, especially with cartridges. I started collecting for the switch because I like cartridges and they can last a long time, unlike dvds. Such a shame, makes me not wanna buy a game I'd like to play and have in my collection
@Yorumi yes I agree with what you are saying and I do actually buy some digital games, usually ones that cost under about £20 and cannot be bought physical. Its nice to have a cart in hand and a case with nice artwork and in some rare cases ,a manual! I recently sold a few of my older physical ps vita games to help fund my switch and in some cases they had actually gone up in value,I could not have done that with digital games, and if my house burnt down the last thing I would be worried about is my switch games lol.
I guess I'm just old fashioned ,I remember that feeling of getting a new vinyl album, switch the kettle on,brew up,fire up the stereo, and slowly slide out the record from the sleeve,oh yes.
@Heavyarms55 It does? Because Dead Cells is like, $35 on Amazon right now and it's $25 on the eshop... ($20 after preorder discount but discounts don't count)
@Heavyarms55 Yeah that sounds more reasonable... to be honest if they would price it slightly higher because they used like 32GB cards so we don't need extra downloads, that'll be great...
Even if it's more expensive, I find cart (? card?) seems to be more durable than Disc (and let's not talk about UMD). Much more compact as well even.
@darkfenrir Oh I vastly prefer cartridges to discs and always have. Even when compact discs were all the rage and the old N64 and PS1 debates... Today, I would much rather pay, say, 65 dollars for a complete game, no download required than 55 dollars for half a game that still has another 12-15GB download waiting...
@Microjak, I totally agree. I prefer physical whenever I have the chance for the same reasons.
@Heavyarms55 Oof, those extra GBs are so big... T_T With my slow internet, I would vastly prefer paying a bit higher to just have them all on disc, heck, if there's space, let the patch be inside the card too pls
@darkfenrir I don't have any issues with download time thankfully, but these days some games are download only. I prefer to keep my SD card open for those titles. Further, I feel that if I buy a physical game, it should just be the whole game. I can pick up and play my copy of Mario 64 on any other N64 without issue. But let's say it is 20 years from now, and Nintendo has shut down their servers for the Switch, and you find a used copy of Doom or LA Noire. You cannot even play them. Or I believe in Doom's case it's playable, but missing features.
@Heavyarms55 Yeah, that's the sad part... Physical should be the full game (Unless it's so massively big there's no card that can fit in, I guess...), but now there's mandatory downloads and everything...
It's hard to not think about the "good old days" for the condition of the games we receive, although I feel the quality for the game itself is going up.
@Heavyarms55 With DOOM you're only missing the online features, which wouldn't work at that point anyway. So it's not an issue really. The rest of those games... Yeah, they're just glorified download codes.
@Octane But you have to agree that in the DooM case you have to download the HUGE update in order to the get the tiny patch that holds the bug fixes. They could just made it possible to patch the game without the online crap and only get the fixes.
Digital is fine. Got tons. However when I go physical I want the game on the cart, otherwise what's the point? Nintendo should never have allowed this situation to get so out of hand. It's a system killer and offputting in the extreme.
Love to know just how you think Nintendo could have stopped this.
@Heavyarms55 you must see the problem publishers have though. Selling software @ $65+ is a huge risk and I am not surprised that no publisher is prepared to test the waters.
Yes we see special editions etc etc sold at higher prices but that's not produced in high numbers. You are asking for publishers to start selling standard versions of games at $65+ when the industry isn't ready for that. Consumers won't pay it either. The small minority will be happy to pay that but the vast majority will be up in arms and complaining about standard version of switch software being priced at $65+. Could see software hit the $70 mark which is utter madness.
I think Dragon Quest heroes with direct conversion would retail @ $80. Yes it's two games but there is a reason S-E are not selling that game outside of Japan. Nobody is paying $80.

I am the same here, I gladly pay more for the complete game but then again there are updates and DLC that don't come and those are the price we pay as well.

If your system is still alive then it be no problem or Nintendo by then have a solution to back your data and transfer them to your Local computer. That is what I want not some cloud where I have no idea whom is looking or backing up my data.
