Welp, they've confirmed it's gone the LCD route of SD/Awakening/Fates as we all feared.
If they were trying to shoot themselves in the foot, they've done it.

@DarthNocturnal Yep. Translated info; already on siliconera: http://www.siliconera.com/2017/05/30/fire-emblem-warriors-wil...

What's complete nonsense is that they say they limited it because "if you put a bunch of protagonists together then it’ll be nothing but sword-wielding characters."
And then added two generic as heck sword-wielding OCs.

Ignoring the fact that Koei has been able to make swordies unique in the past going off of virtually nothing and it would be easy enough to differentiate between FE lords (especially the ones that don't use swords).
What feels like a kick in the teeth is that it's IS supervising.

Eh, the Switch had too many interesting games potentially coming out close together-- I'm kinda relieved I can take one of them off my list.

That's a shame, I guess DLC is the best chance for other games then. I hope something like Hyrule Warriors' Adventure mode is present.

@DarthNocturnal I'd be lying if I said everything else about the game didn't look appealing.
It's got a great visual look to it, they outright said they're breaking 20+ characters (the DQH games had 15 and 18, HW had 13, Berserk Musou had 8, DWGundam had 20), fully voiced, support conversations, elements of the class system...

I just don't want to pay $60 for the opportunity to maybe spend more money down the road for characters I want.
Koei knows how to make characters wielding similar weapons act vastly different. Heck, Dynasty Warriors has 83 characters and none of them are clones-- and you've got a couple dozen sword users there. They can take almost nothing and make a varied moveset out of it (four characters still used the generic sword moveset in DW7-- in DW8, they all got different weapons: a vibrating rod sword with AOE, a sword whose sword trails are actually shockwaves that can be knocked at enemies, a dark sword that creates shadow clones, and a flaming sword in reverse grip that's basically Smash 4 Roy). They don't have as much freedom, but it would be incredibly easy to have a sword-heavy cast and still make them all unique.

@CrazedCavalier Hyrule Warriors shows the unique sword approach too if you compare Link, Zelda, Fi, Ghirahim, Young Link, Tetra, Toon Link and Toon Zelda.

@Grumblevolcano Yeah. Koei knows how to take the same weapon and make it different.
The comment feels like IS just saying some nonsense-- honestly, I kinda wish they hadn't said anything there.

@DarthNocturnal 3U was my start as well. Heck, that's using the DW7 engine still where half the cast are semi-clones. It's worth picking up 8 (Empires is kinda unpolished and not for everybody) just to see how far they progressed (you miss out Sun Quan's Binding Blade, though, as he was the sole generic sword user then).

Non-FE characters appearing in FEWarriors would be unprecedented-- no other Warriors crossover game has done that.

this is not remotely surprising tbh. Hyrule Warriors was exactly the same in that regard. Everything was OOT, TP, SS in the base game.

but the base game was 200+ hours of awesome, so it isn't like I'm gonna complain. I'd rather play a Warriors game with FE characters (even lesser ones if that's true or whateverz) than an actual FE game.

I will say FE is an even better fit for Warriors. Since it is a good fit for spending a long time on a map, only to fail for dumb reasons at the end and being forced to redo the entire thing. :V

@kkslider5552000 That can still happen in Zelda games though that depends on whether you remember to save at reasonable points. Even BotW can have that affect, I've lost an hour of gameplay before because there were no autosaves in a certain area.

@DarthNocturnal Yeah, WO3's BXP system was really good. Heck, the game had quasi-supports between characters as well.
Though weapon fusion could get ridiculous.

Anyways, here's Prince Darios:

...Yes, that's a sword.

Also, fun fact: Shion and Lian's VAs are also brother and sister.

@DarthNocturnal No idea. The one female character we've seen in the screenshots is the queen of the kingdom (both have names, but I forgot them), and I could see her being a mage.
That's five swordies off the bat and one potential mage.

Here's a blurry one from the Marth spread: https://i.redd.it/0ezhzfzl9n0z.png
Tousled hair, big ol' two-hander... looking like Dollar General Ike.

There's another close up floating around where Shion is wielding a lance. It's possible the twins can wield every weapon and are quasi-avatars (in which case why show them off with swords first?).

Sounds great! Of course, Shadow Dragon is a must, for Marth, and most fans are familiar with the last 5 games of the series so pulling from FE11, FE13 and FE14 is a wise choice.

Hyrule Warriors did not disappoint in the slightest, and I'm way more of a FE fan than Zelda so this game has me really excited. And I'm not a "partial" fan either, but 100% fan through and through- even despite Fates stumbling from narrative, I loved a number of characters from that game- mainly all the royals but, that's quite a few characters.

TK said they avoided all mainline protagonists for a reason, and I'm inclined to agree. Virtually all 15 games released featured a lord with a sword. There's no getting around it without equipping them with alternate weapons which would look strange for iconic characters. Heck, half of them would have a sword named Falchion. I have no doubt whatsoever the cast will feature characters of all classes- they've already stated there will be archers and mages.

Of course the weapon triangle makes an appearance, as it should- it would feel strange without it. I'm hoping the DLC is as vast and varied and the Hyrule Warriors season pass. Adding in some older characters with a season pass would be incredible.

Hyrule Warriors had quite a few characters sharing weapons (like half the characters use swords, sheik and medli use harps, darunia and ravio use hammers, etc), and they all ended up feeling as unique as Warriors characters can be.

Hyrule Warriors had a character who IS a sword. That is as sword as it gets.

Two, actually.

One of them was a sword using swords that made swords appear out of nowhere and threw little swordy bits around.

Official JP website opened.
Snooped around the page source code (which I have no real knowledge of but did for the heck of it) and tried stuff like "gamecity.ne.jp/fe/chara05.html" and nothing turned up. No leaks on the website (unless someone who knows what they're doing wants to trawl through the source code).

Oh, and remember where I said there was a blurry screen of Lian carrying a lance?

...Yeah... blurry screen, indeed.

Hopefully it's not a new character tease and she's just an NPC (Awakening and Fates made her a joke and beat it into the ground).
