I'm fine with there being an avatar, though tbh the only FE I've played without one is Shadow Dragon (not sure if Blazing Blade counts or not since you can at least select the gender). I can do without them, but I like having a personal character in the game.
Play more of the old games without it. It really adds absolutely nothing to the game. You're not even controlling the avatar character any more than you control the other characters so it doesn't even seem like it's necessarily you in a gameplay perspective.
In the original GBA game, they had it so you were a character but that you're the person who's directing the battle rather than being in it. That made so much more sense!
@Judi: Precisely! I should have been more specific. Three Houses may very well be the Japanese name, but it's possible that it'll be called something different when it's localized.
@Dezzy: Fair enough. The two backlogged FEs that I have are Sacred Stones (Wii U VC) and Shadows of Valentia. I intentionally don't know a lot about them, but I'm assuming the latter at least has no avatar as it's a remake of Gaiden.
Shadow Dragon -> Mystery of the Emblem
Genealogy of the Holy War -> Thracia 776
Fire Emblem -> The Binding Blade
Path of Radiance -> Radiant Dawn
So the only one which applies outside of Japan is Path of Radiance -> Radiant Dawn given Mystery of the Emblem, Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776 and The Binding Blade are Japan exclusives.
Three Houses seems a separate game like the past few released Fire Emblem games.
This game looks so brilliant. A couple screenshots I snagged from the trailer on my iPad:
Love the sleek new interface, love the ground level view and still seeing the square you're attacking, and absolutely love how you have soldiers with you now. They nailed it. This is the next generation of Fire Emblem.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
I think the overview look a bit barren compared to other games in the same genre. But that is something that will probably change before release so I am not to concerned.
Already a thousand times more interested in this than Fates tbh. The character designs while a tad 'generic' are very appealing. The fields and npc warriors are my only complains, but that could probably be changed. The music is really nice too.
I kind of wish they had done a Treehouse segment on this, but I suppose there will be time enough for more coverage during future Directs. This title was one of the best things to come out of Nintendo's E3 IMO.
This is hilarious. IGN made a video on Fire Emblem Three Houses and they just got so many facts wrong about the series that they ended up deleting the video because of the mockery. This guy's mirrored the video to troll them though.
This really looks like "Our bosses said we needed to promote the game but none of us like the series."
This game looks like it’s going to be amazing, I can’t wait! Just hope it manages to retain the gameplay feel you get with the other games in the series. If they manage to keep that and with the improvements they’ve added in to the game, it could be special.
they say that life’s a carousel, spinning fast you’ve got to ride it well. The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It’s heaven and hell.
New stuff looks fairly good. Although I'm not really feeling this so far. I was also a bit worried they didn't show any more exploration in this trailer. I hope they haven't ditched that aspect. That was a much more important new feature than the team battles for me.
