One more Wii U port, and possibly the worst entry in the series.
I love me some horror games, but this is a tough sell.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,251 games (as of April 24th, 2024)

It's going multiplatform & is apparently remastered to some extent for more modern hardware (hopefully that doesn't mean it's been upgraded with PS/Xbox in mind in such a way that the Switch version somehow performs worse than the Wii U original, not that we have any reason to worry yet, anyhow). Definitely a good thing that more people get to play it, though.
Also, it now has a photo mode and new costumes to go with it (naturally the Nintendo costumes will probably be removed, at least from the other versions, but I wonder if this means the lingerie from the original's JP release will be re-introduced or removed from all versions?).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@Magician Why is this title considered to be the worst? I was thinking about giving this series a shot for quite a while lol.
I think that for newcomers Maiden of Black Water is not a bad point to start. It has some cool scares, creepy places to explore and overall enjoyed it.
However, people who have played Fatal Frame/Project Zero 2 (Crimson Butterfly) consider that game to be the best in the series and it might be one of the scariest games ever. It has some of the more creepier endings too. Compared to that game Maiden of Black Water isn’t as creepy and a little less fun. Relies somewhat more on jump scares too.
There is also a vocal minority who detest that all the main characters are super attractive young women. Plus the game was kind of marketed too that when the girls hit the water they have a wet look (pretty impressive for the engine at the time) and its the same engine as the DOA games. So there is light, boob jiggle.

Well, that has entirely the opposite effect on me .... I was thinking about getting it whenever it becomes available to pre-purchase, so now I definitely will
With this announcement there's only one more Wii U port left I actually care about. I love the original three games and missed out on this one because I was one of many who did not pick up a Wii U. In my defence I was living abroad at the time. I have heard this one has a fairly mixed reception but I am more than happy to give this a shot, especially if it encourages Nintendo to produce more!
Have they said if this is getting a physical release? Also, has any of ye around here played it, what did ye think?
I was really impressed by Maiden of Black Water back in the Wii U days. It has cumbersome controls and unintuitive combat system. Sometimes all of that can get you really mad, especially in close encounters.
But what really pulls this game of this mess is how aesthetically pleasing to play this game. I cannot really convey how this game makes you feel. Every object in this game has its presence, weight and age, you literally feel how everything is aging around you in a physical way, if that makes any sense. And water in this game will scare the ***** out of you.
I wonder how they reworked the battle system since Wii U gamepad was a natural way to represent in-game photo camera as you supposed to hold it in you hands and look at the gamepad screen. Perhaps this time its just gyro aiming with a regular gamepad.
Only ever played Crimson Butterfly, but I do want to check this out. Either on Switch or PC. I know it didn't review well, but I suspect that has more to do with modern sensibilities than quality. Fatal Frame 2 and Silent Hill 2 would both review poorly today if you ask me.

Ha! While I'm not upset about it, I do have to wonder how these characters ended up in this remote, hillside shack dressed like they were on their way to a poke bar for a second date with that cute guy from their improv class.

@anynamereally Sounds reminiscent of the other games in the series. Really great Survival Horror games have this sense of place that really sells the setting to you, regardless of age. I feel the same way about great Metroidvania games as well, you really buy into the environment. Shame to hear the combat is not so fun, I really enjoyed it in past games but this would hardly be the first time I put up with a so-so combat system for an otherwise interesting horror adventure.
