I can't imagine what else it could be. I'm not getting my hopes up for something like Metroid prime, though. For all we know, that could be a newer developer only version that they're working on, and the copies that no doubt are being printed / shipped dont have it yet. All we know is, motion controls!! Which is very exciting.
.
@Operative2-0 We know ''motion controls'' was turned on in the video, but there seemed to be no gyro aiming. So it's probably something else. They did say specifically ''no motion controls'' after all...
I'm reminded of Jim's recent episode about publishers lying. It's possible it was just a lie for surprise effect later. Not saying it was, but it's plausible.
If I am to speculate, I'm going to go with Splatoon style controls but instead of them arriving post launch, there will be a day one update. Bethesda have seen the demand and decided the game stands a much better chance of success with them included.
On other systems its controlled by clicking the right analog stick. Motion is only supported on the Joy-Con so...probably a thumb movement based thing. Replace the click with a motion. Probably handy in fast paced action.

Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Thatโs actually pretty great news. I donโt own a pro controller because I love the joy-con. But if something would get annoying, it would be constantly having to click those thumbsticks.
Glad they are actually putting some thought into this port.
Ya for sure. It's not as good as gyro aiming but it's definitely a nice addition, and will make glory kills super easy to perform.

Itโs been hard. Wicked hard. But I would expect it to be. This is a title that is so frenetic and action-packed and gameplay-pure that getting it to work correctly on the hardware is really important to us, and we spend a lot of time trying to make sure it measures up from the lens of โdoes it feel like Doom?'
As a gamer, I like the hardware. A lot. A lot. A lot. As a developer, Iโm grateful to be bringing games people donโt expect to the hardware, and when theyโre announced, people say โWhaโ?!โ and then โOh, that makes total sense.โ This might sound defensive, but Iโm bummed some gamers focus on framerate or resolution, and donโt focus on, โIs it fun?โ or โDoes gameplay feel good?โ I know weโre working hard to bring quality games to the hardware for which we develop. To make them enjoyable on the TV. To make them enjoyable on the go. Iโm proud of my team. Weโre working hard, weโre not cutting corners, and weโre not leaving anything on the table.

To be fair, for DOOM, most of the enjoyment comes from the butter smooth gameplay, so naturally of course people will wonder about power. Because less power for a game like DOOM would mean choppier gameplay, greatly reducing the "feel" of the gameplay, which I think is DOOM's main attraction.
Not saying I agree with people knocking the Switch version, but those legitimately wondering about the quality of the game on the Switch based on its tech are just worried the game may lose some of its main appeal (butter smooth gameplay).
That said, smooth 30fps is all that's needed to assuage any fears, and it seems like they managed it. So kudos to them, I hope to support them with a purchase sometime down the line.
I am getting extremely annoyed at this port, first for no gyro and now because they keep bringing up Doom 64.
Due to it being a Midway game, it's probably not ever getting a re-release and now they are just rubbing it in. Would be a fantastic bonus addition to this port, too... Or just a digital release alongside...
Hurts to be teased. Doom 64 might be my favorite version of OG Doom and since Nintendo platforms always get ignored for Ultimate Doom re-releases... I kind of feel we are owed another chance to play our most precious version of Doom.
I do wonder if they will consider a demo of the game.
I am excited and am tempted to buy it befor the end of the year but its an expensive investment. Guess I will have to wait for reviews, which is not exactly something Bethesda works with well due to its review embargo policy.
Anyone who thinks 30fps is a problem... go play Fire Emblem Warriors.
I played for about an hour and I thought wow, this game is so buttery smooth- I'm really glad they included that 60fps option. Hmm, let me turn on the 30fps mode to see how well it runs... lo and behold, I come to find out it already was on 30fps. And your movement speed in the game is just as fast as DOOM, you change directions just as quickly and abruptly as DOOM. Maybe even more so.
That's when I realized- truly realized, all this hoopla has been for nothing.

@MarcelRguez Well, I was referring to Doom 64 being my favorite of all those original iterations. Doom, Doom II, Final Doom... Doom 64 shares the same DNA and was developed specificalky as a sequel to Final Doom by Midway.
I suppose I could have said it is my favorite game of the original series, but whatever. They are all similar enough to be episodes of one long game. The OG Doom engine is the defining trait.
