I was enticed by the switch and how fun all the Nintendo exclusives look, but what really sold me was seeing the first JRPGs that are about to come out. Now the more i see, the more i feel the switch is going to be one of the best consoles ever for JRPGs and maybe even Nintendo's best console since SNES.
Let's make a list of every single JRPG coming out in order of release.
I will update this thread and hopefully get this stickied.
Already released:
1. Zelda BOTW
2. I am Setsuna
3. Disgaea 5 Complete
@Dezzy I mean Tales is practically annual. The only reason we haven't heard of it by now, I assume, is because Nintendo commissioned an exclusive one that'll presumably take a couple years or more to make.
Would that really be financially productive? It's hardly the kind of series that's gonna move consoles. Seems more likely they'd just ask for a port of the next PS4 game?
@Dezzy I don't know their numbers, I just know that consoles need exclusive games to compete. Nintendo specifically needs more third-party series to be exclusive to Switch since the Monster Hunter contract ran out and the crossplatform MH game is looking soooo much more ambitious and exciting than any of the recent ones on 3DS.
Snagging a longrunning JRPG series wouldn't be the worst deal to maintain that audience. SMT and Tales are two series never known for their graphics for which it may be mutually beneficial to release on Switch. They shouldn't have to compete with that much more visually impressive games on the platform. They could just polish themselves up a little bit like SMT 5 seems to be doing with Unreal 4 and compete on a relatively even playing field as opposed to having to close the seemingly impossible distance to games that look like FFXV.
There's also I am Setsuna which is already out, and Disgaea 5 Complete if you're including strategy RPGs.
Other upcoming RPGs:
Indivisible (2018)
Pokémon (currently untitled)
Fire Emblem (currently untitled)
Dragon Quest Builders 1 & 2 (not sure if those count as RPGs)
Dragon Quest X (maybe)
Dragon Quest XI
Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings (early 2018)
Good luck finishing both of those before December 1st. Depends how much free time you have I guess. But each of those games took me about 6 months to finish.
@Dezzy
Dag 6 months?
Well i heard some people say they put in over 200 hours into X.. but how many hours is XBC for a 100%? I have like over 30 into it after having 4 days off work so I'm pretty sure ill complete it within a month.
I'm not too committed to beating X before XBC2, i mostly just want to beat XBC.
@Inertiacreep
Yeah there's a good 200 hours of playtime in XCX. Although less motivation to play it for that long as the story's shorter.
I'd say XC1 has maybe 130-150 hours for a completionist. I got fairly close in XC1. Probably got to around 90% completion.
@Dezzy There's truth to what I said, I just wanted it to be read in the context of a joke. And RPGs aren't always stats, levels, and abilities — just look at Monster Hunter.
Breath of the Wild's genre probably is 'open world action RPG' because it plays almost exactly like The Witcher, Dragon Age, and all the others modern open world RPGs in terms of how you interact with characters and objectives. However, Breath is like an RPG lite-lite-lite-lite-lite, and obviously it's story isn't worth anything.
