Topic: Collect or Play?

I'm a gamer and collector. When I first got the Switch I was in to it big time. I spent a lot of time with the Switch... but then something changed. I stopped enjoying it...I've even had long breaks from it, but I just can't get back in to it.

I have found myself collecting for it more than playing. Matter of fact, I enjoy collecting for it more than I ever did playing. I spend more time playing other systems, like the 3DS.

Anyone else feel this way, who collects for it? Do you prefer doing one over the other or a mix of both? I'm not saying it's a bad system or there aren't any good games, cause there are plenty. I just have more of an appeal to collect for it than to play it.

Yes to both. Games with a print run of 10k or fewer (Retro City Ramage), I usually keep those sealed and double dip for a digital copy to play. But if it's a collectors edition of a game that has hundreds of thousands of copies available worldwide (Zelda BotW), I open the box and enjoy the added swag. I'm not a flipper, I like sealed games as a display and a conversation piece.

I play my games and if I can't say that I really collect'em, I can't deny that the amount of them looks like a collection... (I talk about all platforms but for the Switch I have a small amount of games because there is not a lot exclusive games that interest me...)

@The_Legend77
I have a LOT of Nintendo games collection (NDS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, Gamecube, Switch, GBA) & also a gamer + collector.
I still have 50% of my collections are still Unfinished due to lack of hype or too busy or not in the mood to finish, but i still keep them. I can finish my backlogs anytime.

I HAVE BEEN CHANGED.... FOR GOOD. 💚💗

I was a collector in my preteen/teenage years but not now at all. I used to get a satisfaction of having games nicely displayed and organized but as I got older and had a family that went away. Now I'm mostly digital (200+ ps4 games all digital, 30 switch games about half and half). I also have never really had an issue with trading in games I knew I wouldn't play again for new ones unlike most. More about just playing and enjoying the experiences of games rather than collecting nowadays.

I still collect and enjoy playing them at the same time it all comes down to personal choices and life choices we make. Some keep collecting but not everyone game just the interesting ones. And my 3DS/DS games are still there cause you can no longer find them case and all. NSW, I get those that are interesting and collector value. So my status is older but still collecting so there isn't a age when you stop or begin it's how much does it interest you still. I enjoy Physical more then eShop unless that is the only way to get them but if you look nowdays they are going from eShop to Physical because it sells and does better and they get more money for it. Plus Digital you can't resale them so buying them does you no good if you can't resale them to recoup the cost.

i started collecting zelda games and got to the point where I just gave up. As I have gone all digital since the new 3ds release I’ve sold my physical copies of games, the only small collection I still have is the zelda games for Gameboy.

I do collect switch games but i am not into limited runs or anything like that. I just buy games i really want to play and have them displayed on the shelf. I never keep them sealed, even when i buy limited editions i pretty much open them when i get them, if the box looks cool i may put it on the shelf but i don’t want to keep them sealed, i bought those editions to enjoy the goodies

@The_Legend77 I play my Switch daily. In fact I play my Switch probably more than any game system I have owned since the GBA and Game Boy Color. That said, I don't really collect. I only buy games that I have at least some intention of playing. But to each their own.

Collect AND play. I cant understand collectors that buy and that's it. Those unsealed copies just lying there never to be opened and played is just damn sad for me.

I have games collected from GB to Switch and I will finish them some day but I play at least 2-3 games every weekend and make progress in them.

Play...but look after my stuff.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

I like to collect things, but I'm a gamer first. I won't buy a game I don't want to play or won't have time for. That said, I do act a bit like a collector with my games, as well as my books and music amd movies. Physical copies are always prefered to digital, and I take very good care of my stuff.

Couldn't have said it better...but the more you get the longer it takes to get back to those as well.

Same here as well. Sometimes the physical has the box art and as human as we all are there is something innate to the physical touch. And to me having grown up in the Console age to now I trust having a Physical more the Digital. Physical takes more Physical storage space but then again if your a collector gamer that doesn't-maybe the family my take issue with that but then again games are made to relieve stress or just have plain fun.
