Haha, I knew my intuition about Catherine was right. She's a succubus; which explains why she was always mysteriously present in the mornings.
I'm near the climax, and I'm legitimately unsure which ending I'm going to get right now. The game felt like it was going toward a really bad ending, but then it kept going and going, and it's still going. This isn't a complaint: I'm legitimately fascinated by how things are developing plot-wise.
@NEStalgia I feel like the audio must have been compressed somewhat, which led to the muffled-sounding voices throughout the game. It's not horrendous with headphones on, but, as you point out, is has effective made handheld play impossible for me without headphones.
I legitimately can't remember the last Atlus-developed game that didn't have great music. Every single series of theirs has a soundtrack filled with bangers.
@Ralizah
I finished one play through last night on easy. So now I’m going for the opposite side of the spectrum still on easy but not relying so heavily on support. Even on easy things got complicated quick.
@Ralizah Well, i said she may at well jump out and say hee ho! They didn't hide much
I have mixed feelings about any rin ending... From getting accidentally spoiled, I know it's.... Honestly even for atlus an odd story line and not a "cannon" ending (not without a lot of lsd) but, the VA is Ys VIII Dana's VA.... Can't root against one of my favorite characters ever... Feels too wrong .
Yeah the volume is just broken on switch which is a problem to me. It's a puzzle game...i play handheld on purpose!
Really enjoyed the game on 360, maybe I should just go ahead and get this again. Could be pretty unique playing on the go.
It might be worth the double dip for you as Full Body has extra characters and endings in the story mode plus all of the DLC which wasn't released on the 360 in addition being portable.
Aside from Rin's route, most of the additions and improvements in the Full Body edition seem to be in the side content. They did a lot to expand on the puzzle gameplay outside of the core story campaign.
Its one of those things where I can now only play it when I'm in a more forgiving mood for its controls, sometime a day and others a week. The problem with that is it breaks up the story too much for me too really get into it. A darn shame as it's a top game otherwise.
When I get to this game I’d like to do my first playthrough blind and then aim for some other endings. As a shorter game that’s less of an investment than other SMT games where I’ve not tried multiple routes yet.
I just finished this up like last week, and yeah, I didn't use the stick and didn't have much trouble with the controls. But I have absolutely no desire to play it multiple times to get different endings. There was too much about it that just didn't make any sense and based on what I've read, the other endings are likely even worse. I did enjoy the puzzle gameplay, though, and they did a remarkable job incorporating Rin into it. I'd never played it before, and I can't imagine it without Rin because she seems like such an important character.
Finally got around to playing this and I'm disappointed you can't play the game without Rin - im not a fan of the character and preferred the original with the interaction between Vincent and the 2 K/Catherine's.
I personally feel the introduction of a third love interest just paints Vincent as a flat out scum bag, whereas in the original it felt he was caught between love and lust and was fighting his feelings.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Actually thinking about it that's a fair point about not having the orginal story since they already have a choice of Remix and Classic option in the game anyway.
@jump it just felt that Rins character was added to either include or ridicule the Trans community. Both seem to creep up with the dialogue.
I always viewd the 2 K/Catherine's as opposing forces of the feminine energy (the moon & the star in tarot for example).
Katherine could be defined as the "mother" aspect of femininity (the star) - she is fulfilling Vincent's need to be nurtured, whilst also offering him access to advance his own lineage. (Hope and love, best represented in the Greek goddess Aphrodite).
Catherine could be defined as the "maid" aspect of femininity (the moon), She is altogether more destructive - young, fertile and full of a sexual awakening and appeals to Vincent's baser needs and desires (growth, new beginning and lust best represented as the Greek goddess Hecate).
Vincent is caught between these opposing forces and is striving to find his own identity. He epitomises the fool, walking blindly while everyone around him supports him - you also see this in his interactions in the bar and the fact he literally turns into a sheep. He's a follower.
I cant see how Rin fits, the writing feels rushed and some of the interactions just don't make sense to me. It might just be because it changes what I thought about Vincent.
@Mr-Fuggles777Atlus doesn't care one whit about trans people one way or the other. Gender-bending characters are fairly popular in certain types of Japanese media, and Rin was written to tap into that.
Besides, Erica is the actual trans rep in this game, and that aspect of her character is VERY understated.
I don't disagree, though. Even having not played the original, I can still see the tighter outlines of the original in this version. The game is CLEARLY structured so as to juxtapose the influence of Catherine and Katherine on Vincent's actions. I don't mind Rin as a character, but they're very much a third wheel in this story.
Moreover, if you don't go for one of Rin's routes, their role in the story is never addressed, making it all feel a bit incomplete in that regard.
It's a great game overall, but Rin's integration into the larger story is a bit questionable.
