@NintendoByNature I doubt we'll see it, because Bayonetta was already sold bundled with Bayonetta 2. If we see it, it'll be a standalone Vanquish release, probably sometime later in the year after the bundle comes elsewhere. Makes the most sense from a marketing perspective.
Anyways, I'm curious to see if Bayonetta 3 pops up this year at TGA. I'd originally thought it was unlikely, but it feels like it's either that or a full reveal of Babylon's Fall with an updated release date. It's been long enough that it's certainly possible.
As of March 31st, 2020 Bayonetta 2 still hasn't cracked the Switch's list of best-selling games. Enter the Gungeon resides at #32 with one million copies sold. Are people honestly excited for Bayonetta 3? The sales figures say, "no".
Just a travesty.

@Magician Uh... and where are you getting this data from? Nintendo hasn't published it.
I mean, you're right? It's probably not over a million copies sold. We do know it sold 400k on Switch in the first 9 weeks, outselling Wii U's 300k. Given it's been on the market 2 years since, and likely had some renewed interest thanks to Smash, it's quite possible it'll be around 600-700k lifetime on Switch, and was probably around 500k on Wii U (though this is a very rough estimate). So if you combine that fact with the fact that there are probably at least some non-double dippers and people who'll buy after having played 2 used, or not playing 2 at all, it's still possible Bayo 3 will come close to or even break a million sales lifetime. Which, despite what people think, is actually hugely significant numbers for a video game. Not every game series is gonna be a multimillion seller. DMC 3 after all is probably the best comparison, and it was hailed as a huge success at 1.3 million sales.
So yeah. The mass market isn't excited. But that doesn't mean the people who need to be aren't. If Bayo 3 breaks 1 million, it's an unqualified success for what it is.
@Magician Most people, me included, just aren't interested in pure character action games.
There's a reason their best-selling game this generation by a country mile was an RPG.
If you make games within unpopular genres, you either accept that your potential for growth is limited, or you switch over to making something else.
Although, to be fair, a lot of the people who might have purchased Bayo 2 on Switch already owned it on Wii U and probably weren't willing to double-dip.
I think Bayonetta 3 will sell fine, personally. Especially if Nintendo gives it the red carpet treatment and releases it near the holidays.
I'm just being overly dramatic. But any time Nintendo prints a financial highlight and Bayonetta 2 isn't listed it feels like a slap against my soul. Granted, the most recent financial highlights are for the games released in 2019 (so why would Bayonetta 2 be there, I know). Page 19 just...triggered me...I suppose.

People forget, but Bayonetta 1 had a pretty significant marketing push back in the day. Like I saw full on tv commercials all the time around its launch, like as much as FFXIII got shortly afterwards. But it only did 1 million, which is not bad but clearly not want Sega wanted considering Nintendo had to save this series. Twice.
Though I disagree that character action games are automatically niche. Pre-PS4 God of War and Devil May Cry are more popular. I'm not entirely sure why Bayonetta isn't more popular. I mean, its not my favorite of their games, but I'm in the minority for that opinion and its easier to get into than a good chunk of their games.

I remember talking to someone about how excited I was for the second one coming out. They scoffed and said something along the lines of weird porno anime button mashing rubbish.
Tbh most Platinum games have all largely struggled apart from a few releases so I wouldn't isolate Bayonetta and view it more as their style isn't suited for the masses.
Hey, has anyone received a notification from Amazon about this game? Amazon just canceled my order and they took it down from the site. I also lose the $10 off since I preordered it before they removed that bonus.
What you talking about exactly? A Bayonetta 3 preorder? Amazon often delists preorders for games so they can nullify their own preorder price guarantee. The game will eventually be relisted, at full price no doubt.

@Magician Yes, they took down the Bayonetta 3 preorder. I know they can do that whenever they want but it came out of the blue. I’m a little disappointed because the only reason why I kept the preorder on Amazon was to get that discount.

Huh, they clearly haven't played any games like those, then .... I'm personally quite a fan of those, too but the differences between even the most 'arpg' like ones & Bayonetta don't end at the amount of sex & nudity!
@jump I wouln't mind some more time travel stuff, I think the sequel actually made Bayo 1's story more interesting.
I personally haven't bought the Bayonetta games on Switch because I own them on Wii U. I'd rate Bayonetta 2 up there with Sin and Punishment 2, as the best pure action game of all time.
