@monkeyspasm Yeah, Sega Rally Online Arcade is my favorite edition so far. I’ll forever keep my 360 thanks to Sega and their licensing issues lol. Not only for that game, but OutRun and Afterburner as well. All are such fabulous games for XBLA. ❤️
Bit unsure of where to ask this question [also apologies to Admin in advance if this is a no, no] but seeing as this thread is populated with some of the kindest and most informed retro game enthusiasts I know, I wondered if anyone with experience playing 8-Bit, 16-Bit consoles via emulation on a soft-modded Wii could offer guidance on getting the best picture quality for these games.
Yes, yes, I know playing retro games on the original hardware is always the best scenario available but for ease of use, personally, I do enjoy the flexibility emulation offers. E.g. I can have all my NES, Master System, SNES, Mega Drive and even my GBA games all in one place in a tiny little rectangular box under the telly.
Right now, I'd ideally like some advice on what settings to use within the emulator for all the Sega systems. As I'm sure some of you will appreciate, playing these games on a large LCD TV via a Wii with component inputs can make them look too pixelated.
Well I'm going to blame you for keeping me up till after 3AM last night!
I bought a spare 32GB HDD for my 360 a couple of years ago because I have 2 systems of each. 2 PAL consoles and 2 Japanese ones, all brand new, well except for the one I have been playing so far.
So I bought the extra HDD to make a backup to that second system that hasn't been played, just in case my other one dies. It's been over 2 years since I powered on my 360 and when I did I was surprised to find 282 game items on my dashboard. Looks like I was quite a fan of the system after all. And that doesn't included any physical games besides a handful that I installed!
So I switched out the HDD in the new one to replace it with the 320 one and start the long process of downloading everything one by one to the new system. I'm about 40 games in so it'll take me a week or two I think.
As a bunch of games were downloading I made the mistake of putting in PGR 3 and spent the next 3 hours racing. I had forgotten just how perfect that game actually was.
No idea how they got the 360 to sing like that, and I think PGR4 was a big step up even from 3 if I'm not mistaken! Never liked the bikes though.
So after that I tried out Trials HD as it was installed. Lost another good 40 minutes on that one trying to do just 2 tracks as good as I could. Didn't turn out very well as I now suck at the game. lol
After that it was already past 1AM, yet I thought it was a good idea to bring out the Sanwa SF4 stick and pop in Dodonpachi Daioujou. I absolutely love Danmaku, but this one is still quite a way ahead of that one for me. Wow.
I literally had to say, well it's past 3AM now, I really need to somehow get to bed. Even though I didn't want to.
I'd love to swap some PGR 3 times, although I'm terrible at that one now as well it seems.
Why they decided to start going with all those racing games that pretty much drive themselves and are all flash and little else (latest Burnout, Need for Speed, and all that) I have no idea.
PGR 3 and 4 pretty much perfected the balance between arcade and sim racing. Even Driveclub doesn't quite reach it's heights, even though I love how that one feels and plays.
Such a shame what happened to Bizarre.
Just looked up the backwards compatibility with Xbone and I'm very impressed.
if I ever get one, that will be a huge factor for sure. Now if only all those Cave games worked with it, that would pretty much be a done deal.
Any idea if there's still region locking when playing 360 games on a One, btw?
If there was no region lock for these previously locked games and the Cave catalogue was supported, I just had to get one without question. But I fear they would do it like Sony.
Sure you can play PSone games on your region free PS3, but not Japanese PSone game! Haha! Gotcha! :-/
There is no time trial mode in PGR3, right? I was looking for one but I can only find career mode and online career.
Oh and before I forget again, have you ever played EDF 2017 (Earth Defense Force)?
If not, grab it immediately as I see it's also compatible with One.
I import the games as soon as they release in Japan. Fell in love with 2017 on 360 and it's still my favourite entry I think.

@Lroy I doubt they could really get mad over it without coming off as hypocrites as quite often articles appear on the front page of the site talking about piracy devices and such.
So if you're question is about a forbidden grey area, then those articles should be scrubbed from the site first.
I'm not a fan of emulators myself, even though it's becoming more and more of a necessity the older systems and hardware starts getting. So I'm certainly not against it from a preservation standpoint.
Can't really help you with this though as I do have my Wii's modded, but only to be able to play my US copy of Excite Bots that never came out here and my Japanese copy of Zangeki no Reginleiv and Colour Logic.

@Lroy Yeah, I was planning to come in at 10PM or so, but got sidetracked with the download list.
It's quite a job clicking thought every single one manually...
And then I put in Project Gotham Racing and all hope was lost.
I ended up eating dinner at 11PM lol. Didn't know why I was starved till I looked at the clock.
Even came across Amidar I think. I had even forgotten that game got a home port at all!
Seems like there's quite a bunch of games that have been delisted.
I couldn't even find the Pinball Arcade and I could have sworn I played the game on 360 as well.
Only came across Williams Pinball something or other and Pinball FX, but later on found it in my 600 item download list.
Said it before, I get sidetracked easily by shiny new (or old) things without much needing as much as a poke or prod.

I wish we would have gotten a Gunbarrel and Virtua Cop compilation on these systems.
Because right no, the only way to play them is on a crt.
Going through all those games made me realise how much better the previous gen was compared to this one. At least for me. Don't get me wrong, I have had tons of fun with certain games, but compared to the craziness that we saw 5-10 years ago, this gen has been quite the let down.
So glad the Switch is turning things on its head for me this past year. If it hadn't been for this little system I'd probably be playing just my old games.
And yes, I realise how that might sound when you look at my 20 recently played games on Switch.
At least 19 shoot em ups, a couple of Neo Geo games, a musou game and Splatoon. Lol

Backwards compatibility is huge on Xbone and there’s no cost to it either. This is one of the main reasons I love that console. It’s quite popular in the US, I do most of my online gaming there.
@Agent721 Wow, I didn't expect the old, once region locked games to be unlocked! That's how it really should be done.
So weird that something like that comes as a surprise, but then again, in this hobby, we are used to not getting the best possible outcome. And certainly not for free.
If they include all those shoot em ups, I will certainly think about picking one up.
Although my tastes have changed quite a bit the past year or two, so right now I'm so tired of FPS games and focus mostly on Japanese games or indie games.
I've just been scouring Youtube for the "best" Xbox one exclusive games, and barely any really stand out for me personally.
Gears 4 maybe, Forza Horizon 3 certainly, as well as Sunset Overdrive. Forza 7 probably.
But I can't find much else at this point. will keep looking though.
I've been turning away from online games as well, so that certainly doesn't help.
Heck, I would barely play online on Switch as well if it wasn't for the community here.

The exclusives don't stand out beyond Forza (THE best racing game, period), Gears of War (incredible shooter) and I also enjoy Killer Instinct quite a bit. What i like about it is the 3rd party games are all here (playing through Far Cry V right now), you can get 4k gaming via the Xbox One S for rather cheap, which in the US you can usually find for about $200. Graphically, its a giant difference to play in 4k, you have to see it to believe it though, but everyone who's seen my set up has been blown away at how clear the games look. And it plays both 4k bluerays (No PS4 Can) and streams 4k everything else, and upstreams everything to 4k as well. And that's on top of the 360 backwards compatibility. As good as graphics look on the PS4, the Xbox in 4k clearly looks better due to the higher definition. The first time you see it you are blown away. At least I was.
I enjoy it beyond its gaming capabilities though as it is the center of my living room, with an OTA antenna plugged in, Sling TV, Amazon Prime, Netflix and HBO Now all linked to it. The gaming is almost a bonus, as to me its the ultimate 4k media box So yes, if you get it just for the games..,look for a sale because unless you have a 4k TV, have a bunch of 360 games to play, or enjoy their small lineup of exclusive games, you'll be disappointed. I can honestly say the center of the living room media box is the #1 reason I love my Xbox. I watch movies, tv and all sorts of media on it as much as I game on it. It is my cable box. I cut cable a few years back because the Xbone gave me so many options at a much lower cost and especially the OTA antenna. It builds a guide for you as if you're watching cable, with all the correct logos, etc...at no cost beyond the cost of buying the antenna and adapter.
The PS4 clearly has better exclusives and that's why I own one of those too...Uncharted is my favorite series next to Zelda. I bought a Playstation 3 just to play those games and I follow them into the PS4, just for them....I even have the blue uncharted themed PS4. Long live Nathan Drake!

@meppi64 Haha, that's how every night should go! "Oh, I'm just going to check out this game for a minute...." and then 5 hours have passed. That's awesome though, that means you were having fun. And when it comes to comparing times, I doubt I'll be that good to begin with either. I honestly don't remember if it had score attack, but it must??? lol. I'll have to check when I return from my trip. Anyway, glad you had fun.
As for backwards compatibility, I'm absolutely loving all the support Microsoft is giving it. Not only just being able to play original and 360 games on Xbox One, but also being able to play games at upscaled resolutions on the Xbox One X. That's absolutely fantastic and a feature I want for all classic games. It really makes a strong visual difference. It's basically a cleaner image. Apparently a huge update is in the works too, but who knows what that could mean or when it'll be released.
@Agent721 Yeah, unfortunately OutRun and Afterburner are both no longer available to purchase. However, if you previously purchased them, you'll still be able to download them.
