So I have a long hard think about the negativity around pricing and value for your money with Nintendo Switch 2. And for my personal circumstance I feel I am getting allot of value and here is why...

Just for clarity ALL I am buying is a Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle for £429.00 from My Nintendo Store UK. I am an NSO + Expansion Pack subscriber (and got that super cheap through the Black Friday deals in 2024)

MARIO GAMES
Mario Kart World
Mario Odyssey (free upgrade + GameShare)
Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury (free upgrade + GameShare)
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (free upgrade)
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (free upgrade + GameShare)

ZELDA GAMES
Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Zelda Notes
Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Zelda Notes
Link's Awakening (free upgrade)
Echoes of Wisdom (free upgrade)
Wind Waker (Gamecube)

POKEMON
Pokemon Scarlet (free upgrade)
Pokemon Violet (free upgrade)

OTHER
51 Worldwide Classics (free upgrade + GameShare)
ARMS (free upgrade)

THIRD PARTY
Fortnight (free upgrade)

GAMECUBE
Soulcalibur II
F-Zero GX (900p 60FPS, Widescreen)

Plus with Gamechat I will have 12 player voice chat system wide (basically Xbox Live party chat) + up to 4-player screen sharing and camera (I won't be buying camera at launch)

Actually there is a ton of that stuff I have not played through (but bought) and so Switch 2 is going to feel like I have a ton of new games day 1.

I'll be playing the ever-living fluff out of Mario Kart World.

My day 1 new games are Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma and the Bravely Default remaster. I also haven't finished Echoes of Wisdom yet, so I'm gonna get free upgrade and finish it on the Switch 2. And this is the first time I'll have the ability to play Wind Waker (never owned a Gamecube nor a Wii), I'm definitely gonna see whether or not I like that one.

I have the NSO Expansion pack that includes the Switch 2 upgrades for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, so if nothing else I'll at least see how good they look on the new system. I might actually try to finish all the sidequests in TotK, since I didn't bother to do that when I played through it in 2023.

All that + Donkey Kong Bananza in July should definitely keep me occupied for the summer.

This.

I'm also thinking of picking up Yakuza 0.

If I find time, maybe I'll play some of my Switch library / Wind Waker on NSO.

At least 2'8".

The free upgrades for Mario Odyssey and Captain Toad are nice, but those games already looked and ran great on the Switch 1, so I can't imagine I'll been replaying those that much just because of the upgraded visuals.

I'm also planning to get a lot out of Mario Kart World. Plus Gamecube NSO. And I will probably get back to a lot of Switch 1 games that have carried over.

Mario Kart and Street Fighter are my primary purchases (at least until I get that VF5 REVO date). I have a few switch games I will be buying during that period but probably won’t transfer to switch 2.

I really don't know about that value you described. I mean its nice they are upgrading some of their older games for free but this isn't anything groundbreaking or overly praiseworthy imo.

anyhow, day 1 will be for me when metroid releases.

I mean I guess if you don't consider the free upgrades a value. However in total I am buying the new console and paying £34.00 for Mario Kart World.

not €90, not $80

And even thought I am ONLY buying the bundle I get GAMECUBE, remapping of controls AND rewind for N64. PLUS I am getting performance boosts for my Switch 1 games (which I imagine will grow over time).

This is before I spend another penny on Switch 2 games.

And for me having a dedicated party chat on a Nintendo console is GAME CHANGING!

I never really was into the new style of Zelda in Breath of the Wind/Tears of the Kingdom, so I only briefly played Tears. I hated the framerate and resolution and speculated Nintendo might improve it for Switch 2. So now I think it'll be the first game I play on SW2. Just glad my patience paid off.

Mario Kart looks neat and i will play and beat it but ive never been a big kart racing fan.

Yes, alliteration is fun.

I have bought some Switch games I want to play but am holding out for when Switch 2 arrives, even though none of them have upgrades - Persona 5 Royal, Another Code Recollection & Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Also I have to work out how to sneakily get the Switch 2 console into my house without anyone shouting about my purchase. Adult living at its finest.

Prince of Persia:Sands of Time remake is coming to Switch 2, that should be cool too.

We already saw one company offer a free switch 2 upgrade, so it is possible for companies to patch their old games like that. So I hope a lot of these old third party games do it, as a lot of 'em were struggling to run on Switch 1.

@SwitchplayerJohn Value is all relative. I mean I played Treasure Tracker already on the Wii U and double dipped on the switch for collections sake. It's a ten year old game or so.

Even without perfomance enhancing upgrades these games would have been playable. So it's not like I am going to say, finally I can play Treasure Tracker the way it was always meant to be and my patience paid off or something.

Realistically, I'll be transferring my games and setting things up and Nintendo servers will probably be broken day 1 and it's on a work day for me.

So let's say day 2-4

I haven't succeeded in getting a Switch 2 pre-order yet but if I do my first weekend plays will be:

  • Peach Showtime - I'm really curious if Switch 2 automatically fixes the jank loading screens.
  • Cult of the lamb - I am similarly interested to see if Switch 2 improves the unbearable lag.
  • Mario Maker 2 - just to make sure basic online stuff from Switch 1 still works fine.
  • Pokemon Violet - very curious about the Switch 2 update.
  • Game Builder Garage - I'm not super interested in mouse mode, but this seems like a good game to try it out.

I may or may not immediately upgrade my NSO to expansion pack, but if I do I will also jump on:

  • Breath of the Wild Switch 2 edition.

In terms of brand new games, I am mostly waiting for Donkey Kong.

I might get Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma as my first Switch 2 game, but it depends on reviews. I was gonna get Yakuza 0 but since the physical version is a game-key I'm just going to buy digital but wait for a sale.

The other possibility is Deltarune. I played chapter 1 on PC when it first came out. I bought it on Switch when Chapter 2 released but never played it so now seems like a good time to finally catch up.

I tend to not play games on day 1 cause of their price and my backlog. Of course if they come to Gamepass on day 1 then I might play some of the games. I did play Avowed day 1 and I did start Doom Dark Ages yesterday on day 1 but that's cause they were on Gamepass. Of course I will also be playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and 4 Remaster day 1.

How'd you manage to get MKW for £34, if any retailers were doing it at that price it'd be sold out in a nanosecond.

That's how much it costs in the Switch 2 bundle in the UK.
