Place your bets, folks. Nintendo's pack-in games are more often than not...legendary. Well, up until the Switch, where Nintendo sold us (what should've been the pack-in) a $50 tech demo in 1-2 Switch. So, here on the cusp of Nintendo announcing new hardware, what do we think?
Pack-in or no pack-in?
Sony gave PS5 buyers ASTRO's Playroom.
Personally, I feel there'll be a pack-in. I just don't have a clue which it would be. MK8D and Breath of the Wild continue to sell incredibly well. And you wouldn't want to mar the launch with Everybody 1-2 Switch or something equally mid.
I figure if the switch successor will have any new features, the pack-in would have to do with that. Like if the alleged C button meant "Connect", It could be a game that relies on multiplayer for the most part.
Warning: Spicy opinions like "M&Ms are overrated." may leak from this unit!
I think not having a pack-in game for the Switch was quite a risk...but it worked in the end!
So my initial thought is no, not when there's a huge library of Switch 1 games ready for booting up that a lot of people already own.
That is unless, they want to push the mouse feature big-time and include a game which centres wholly around using the new joy-con capabilities although much like 1-2 Switch, they might feel like they can sell it separately making for another launch title and a cheaper console at that.
Wii Sports was a pack-in game wasn't it? And that was wildly popular. Although, that doesn't rack up money for individual sales for game. And this is new Nintendo, the one that killed off virtual console. So, I don't see a pack-in game happening for Switch 2, but I would welcome it. Snipper Clips is... kinda lame? Yes, I bought it, but I'm not sure it lives up to the expectations of an effective pack in game.
1-2-Switch was frequently criticised for not being a pack-in, but it didn't exactly hurt Switch sales. I'm leaning towards saying there will be a pack-in though, since otherwise people might decide to buy a PS5 over a Switch 2 due to the former coming with a game. But that might just be wishful thinking.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
A new NintendoLand game, but more focus on local play among multiple Switches. That kind of social thing was fun on DS and 3DS, and the 50 Worldwide Games game was demoed in terms of laying Switches alongside each other, so maybe including some element of that. Basically, social aspects of portable play seems to be something Nintendo has been doing right, to differing degrees of success, for a long time.
@PikminMarioKirby that's sort of what I was thinking! Nintendo could go the route of including a free system showcase game, like PS5's Astro's Playroom or Steam Deck's Aperture Desk Job, that introduces you to all the cool new features in a short little experience.
@Havenn I didn’t really think of it comparing it to those games but that’s probably near exactly what it would be like!
Obviously this play test is playable on Switch (unless the Switch version that was just a demo early build), but idk if it’ll be Switch 2 exclusive or on both consoles.
Absolutely insane that they're charging for that game. I honestly like the look of it but as a paid download it's a tough sell, especially with the seemingly stacked launch line-up.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
@Jester676 They're both free upgrades if you've got NSO expansion pack, at least.
I await, with trepidation, how much they're going to cost separately though. It's almost certainly going to be more than the ten dollars Sony want if you're upgrading a PS4 game to a remaster on PS5.
