@JaxonH Yeah, anyone waiting for a price drop on the original Switch is still waiting.

@WaveBoy I have seen the top loading Nes a few times, most gaming shops and such it definitely was an interesting console.

I was really gonna preorder the thing, but now?

I don't care much for the single investment (okay maybe an OLED later down the road too) of 400, 450, 500 or 550 for 5-8 years to be honest. I'm obviously not happy about game pricing though.
I've read all the arguments (it's like the 90's again, games are bigger now of course they cost more) yadda yadda yadda.

I'll have a wait and see approach. If I have to shell out 80 to 90 bucks for a new game, then it better be ready without a 10 GB day one patch, works perfectly, does not have any further monetization microtransaction garbage and all DLC on cart already... oh wait. Then I woke up.

The real dealbreakers for me to be an early adopter (or at all) are two things:

  • Nintendo's attitude
which is abysmal. It's been done over and over again, console manufacturer comes hot off the success of last gen and is all cocky and coprorate about it. Sega did it. Sony did it. Nintendo themselves already did it. Cut the corporate crap. Nintendo for the longest time was good in upholding the illusion that they are a "fun first" or "gaming experience first" company and not some greedy corporate gaming mill. Not anymore. Screw this. It's more of the same games, attitude and experiences and I am in no rush to experience the same games from Nintendo I played for 30 years just a bit bigger and shinier.
  • That Pro Controller and their stance towards analogue triggers.
I've vented my frustration often enough already. I'll spare you one more go at it. It's just ridiculous and the reasoning given is beyond stupid.

So... I'll wait and see because I don't trust Nintendo anymore.

Who says NSO will work perfectly in the first few weeks? Most likely a blunder. Who knows what comes from the whole tarif situation (the problem is not the tarifs it's the greed), does the Switch 2 in a twist of fate STILL support third party analogue controllers? Is Mario Kart World really THAT KIND of a banger worth having immediately or is it just more of the same but larger in scale?

So I wait and see. No preorder.

I'll probably pick it up in time for Legends Z-A, but I'm completely underwhelmed by the launch line-up, especially with the plethora of "key card" releases and the fact that BOTW will not include the DLC on the cartridge.

The launch lineup is pretty disappointing, I agree. Other than Mario Kart World, it is basically a bunch of ports.

I get they want to spread out their big releases, but it's still a little underwhelming. I am surprised there is no mention of a brand new Mario game yet either, but I guess they want the focus on Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong and Metroid Prime for now and maybe an announcement will still come later this year (perhaps in time for a end of year release to help the Christmas rush).

@Reprise I think DK Bananza is playing the role of 3D Mario, from what we've seen so far that game feels very much like Mario Odyssey.

Grumblevolcano

Reprise

@Grumblevolcano I agree, but I would be surprised if a 3D Mario isn't still on the cards for either a late 2025 or 2026 release.

I am kinda tempted but to be honest, with no retail stores I can just go in and pre-order one anywhere near me like there was for the Switch, I’d have to be relying on online stores and I have no idea when any will get them in stock. So it’s really not something I’m likely to get even if I wanted one.

Definitely on the fence. There's some good, some bad. The launch lineup isn't terrible, but I imagine there will be more titles by the end of the year. The original Switch was exciting because it was something new and hadn't been done before.

With the Switch 2, it does have some of that with the mouse controls, but I don't feel that pull as hard. I mean I'm a Nintendo fan so I'll probably buy it but its more like when rather than if. At the moment I don't feel the big need to have it right this second unless they announce some crazy titles for the later 2025 or something.

50/50. It could go either way.

@Reprise Who would be making it though if the 3D Mario team is making Bananza?

Grumblevolcano

Reprise

@Grumblevolcano Not sure, but I can't imagine that 8 years after Odyssey, that Nintendo are not already working hard on it, particularly with a new console about to come out.

I might be wrong though. Maybe it's something that will come much later, but I would think that's a bit risky if you want to sell a new console.

It's an interesting question. I forgot that the first game that team technically created after becoming a new entity in Tokyo was Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. So they did start with Donkey Kong even if their predecessor team mostly worked on Sunshine. They've also worked on smaller games like Captain Toad alongside the big 3D games, as well as ports and Bowser's Fury. So perhaps we'll get Galaxy 2 and some small 3D mario-related game as 'filler' and have a mario-branded big mario game mid-late in Switch 2's lifetime.

Alternatively, maybe Nintendo has re-orged again as they did not long before both Wii and Switch and perhaps there are now more teams working on first party 3D games.

Or maybe they’ve “pulled an EA” - Mario Odyssey was profitable but failed to meet sales expectations (budgeted for 200 million units) and now there will never be another 3d Mario game ever again. Odyssey was the last one, you should have bought 10 copies - it’s your fault.

Just putting that possibility out there. It is 2025 after all…

Like Reprise said, there's no way the next 3D Mario hasn't been on the works for a long time already. I suspect it'll be released towards the end of the year to boost Christmas sales... Unless the new Pokemon game will be Nintendo's Christmas title of 2025, in which games Mario will most likely be pushed to 2026. I can't imagine they'll wait any longer than that, since the 8 years that have passed since Odyssey are already the longest break ever between brand new 3D Mario platformers. (I'm not counting Bowser's Fury, since that one is essentially just a DLC added to a remake.)

Also, the next Mario movie is supposedly coming out in spring of 2026, presumably Nintendo would want to launch the next 3D game around the same time so they can benefit from each other's hype?

You've had an account on this site since 2010, you have 1000s of posts. I have serious doubts that BotW not including the DLC on the cartridge really impacts you at all. It's unlikely you didn't get the game already on Switch and if you care about it or the DLC you would already have it on your account. And if you didn't care and don't then.... why would you care now?

Doesn't really add up

I’ve already preordered the Mario Kart World Bundle,

Because I’m already a subscriber to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion service, I get access to the Legend of Zelda : Tears of the Kingdom upgrade.

I MAY get Cyberpunk 2077.

Just between Mario Kart, Tears of the Kingdom upgrade, and GameCube (never owned a GCN and I missed its games) I’m pretty excited.

I’ll hold off on Pro Controller, since the Switch 1 works, and I got the TOTK Pro controller that I love, and I’ll wait for when Nintendo reveals another cool themed pro controller thatlll get for Switch 2.

The MicroSD Express I’ll get later.

I am hoping more games get free patches to up the resolution/frame rates on the old Switch 1 games. That’s really what was holding me back from playing it more was the general poor performance on the bigger games.

@skywake : What doesn't add up is you ignoring my point about corporate greed and being needlessly confrontational and belittling instead of addressing my concerns about inferior physical products becoming increasingly normalised, especially for an 8 year old game with 7 year old DLC. Nintendo never re-released an older game on subsequent hardware without the previously released DLC included (e.g. Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors etc.), so why is it okay that they're getting away with it now, and with an absurd AU$20+ premium to add further insult to injury (realistically AU$30 given that most retailers sell the Switch 1 version for $69 compared with the Switch 2's $99 reduced asking price).

I already have the Japanese Switch 1 release with the DLC/updates on the cartridge. With the Switch 2 cartridge, which does not include the DLC, I would lose access to that DLC on the supposed "superior" version on the "superior" hardware without an additional purchase. Capiche?

@SillyG Why would you need to buy the Switch 2 cartridge at an absurd premium when you can just pay a fraction of that (or nothing at all, if you have the NSO expansion pack) to upgrade your Japanese Switch 1 release with all of its content?
