I won't have the money to place a pre-order this month as I've got a few other, more important things I need to prioritise, but I'm strongly considering pre-ordering on payday next month if I'm still able to. I know of a few places that still have Switch 2 stock available so I'm hoping they don't sell out by next month.

I've already bought the Switch2-MarioKart-Bundle, so I can pick it up at my convenience, without standing in lines.
Mario Kart is a game I don't mind "owning" only digital, but I definitely try to buy physical (if possible) just as I do with all my games.

For sure, I've skipped the OLED, but this one is going to get into my hands either way.

The only thing that I'm going to do is probably wait a little for things to settle and stabilize offer-wise. I've learned my lesson jumping into hardware prematurely.

Game on. 🤘 Rock on. 🎸

@rallydefault Yeah, dev time is mostly just guesswork, but I think it's a fair bet that Metroid Prime Remastered took at least as many resources as DKC Returns HD and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, and yet it's cheaper. I do agree Donkey Kong has a good amount of content, but a better example would be stuff like Kirby Star Allies and the Mario sports games costing the same amount as Mario Odyssey and the Fire Emblem and Xenoblade games. Obviously everyone will get a different amount of value out of a game (some people might list ARMS as an example of a game lacking in content, but I've played it for 80 hours and not got 100%), but it's clear that the amount of content in a $60 Nintendo game can differ wildly.
So I guess my point is, like skywake said, the answer to 'Why is the Metroid Prime remaster cheaper than the Donkey Kong/Luigi one?' is 'Because more people will buy Donkey Kong/Luigi' - or in other words, to maximise profits. Which means if you ask 'Why is Mario Kart World $80?', the obvious answer to a lot of people will be 'Because Nintendo knows people will buy it anyway' - or in other words, to maximise profits. Nintendo might want us to believe it's because of the amount of content in it or how expensive it was to make, but the evidence from their own pricing history doesn't support that.

And to be clear, I'm not necessarily saying Mario Kart World isn't worth the asking price. We can't know if it is until we've played it, and I could easily see myself getting plenty of value out of it when I do eventually get it. Same for Donkey Kong Bananza. I'm just saying I can understand why people are sceptical of Nintendo's statement that Switch 2 games are being priced according to their amount of content/value.

The most sensible thing to think. Moreover, it's obvious that Nintendo has changed strategies under the new president's command (ex-accountant) and it's more focused on the business side than ever before. Everything went well with Switch in terms of commercial performance, so they will be driving in that direction until the strategy fails.

Already paid for the MKW bundle, strongly considering picking up some third parties to support their efforts. I live in Australia so the preorder never went away.

Cyberpunk with the added controls seems like a fantastic deal especially with the full physical and DLC included. I didn't care to get it on my gaming rig and now I'm honestly more excited to buy it for the Switch 2.

There's some charm just missing buying Steam games, I have close to 1000 games on Steam (this isn't an exaggeration you're welcome to check my library using this username) but I am rarely tempted to play anything there.

There is a certain energy that comes with a brand new console launch and games that you only get once every few years.

@Varkster Totally agree with your last sentence. I've only ever gotten a console at launch only once or twice at most so if I can pick up a Switch 2 on launch that would be a pretty sweet feeling.

Absolutely excellent profile picture by the way!

@Kairuuu Thank you, though I just ripped it off somewhere years ago since I love Bloodborne.

Unfortunately, I didn't make it myself so I can't brag about it hahaha

And yeah, this would actually be the first system since the Wii U I'm getting at launch. The others I always bought mid-gen for a specific game, when the Switch came out I was a lot less interested and was busy doing other things.

This is the first time in my adult mind that I am actually investing into a system at launch and it's for good reason, I see a lot of longevity in this platform and they have made a very clear promise in their Direct that they and other companies will be there to support the system day 1.

Seems like a good sell to me, especially since I loved the games shown. Wish everyone in the US luck on pre-orders, I know for a fact it won't be a breeze like it was in Australia. Seems like a whole mission with 3-day prep.

@Varkster I love Bloodborne also. I'm actually playing it right now. It and Elden Ring are two of my favourite games of all time.

Yeah, I'm confident the Switch 2 will do well. There are some really good games that will be releasing for the system which should be absolutely fantastic. I'm quite curious to pick up Elden Ring to see how it would run on a Switch 2 console and the thought of playing it in handheld mode gets me quite excited.

Hopefully the pre-orders in the US aren't crazy but I get the feeling they will be. Luckily I'm in a small town in the UK and I've noticed a few a few nearby retailers still have Switch 2's in stock for pre-order and collection, so I'm hoping that'll remain the case as I can't place an order until next month. I'm hoping I can nab one!

@Kairuuu In the UK has it been sold out in bigger regions? I haven't been following too closely though I know it's doing quite well in France, Germany and Japan based solely on preorder numbers and hearsay.

@Varkster Multiple retailers (around my area, at least) where I've looked online have mostly sold out. One retailer I looked at nearby has sold out in terms of buying online and getting the console delivered, however they have some in stock where you can buy online and collect in store.

Given that that's the case in my area, I can only imagine it's the same if not worse in some of the larger areas.

@Kairuuu Damn, I see. In Australia there are a lot of smaller stores that are normally well supplied, EB Games/JB Hifi/Officeworks/Big W are sold out, but normally the 'gamers' go to other stores around to support them (and get the preorders locked in).

Wish you all the luck to get yours locked down in time, though these things will constantly be getting shipped I don't imagine you need to worry much even if you miss the first batch of pre-orders.

From what I can see online in the US preordering these things is a nightmare, you have to stay up and start clicking on the minute to make sure you get yours booked, causing websites to crash and thousands of people missing out. Biggest drainer ever.

I'm kind of torn about it. The lineup looks amazing, and I'd certainly get my money's worth in terms of time put into the system, but my OLED is just coming up on 2 years old and my backlog is quite sizable. I think I'll do a hybrid (heh) strategy. If I don't get an invite from Nintendo on the 8th to pre-order, I'll wait it out. I think pre-orders later tonight are going to be...an experience.

@drumnbayes There is a lot to consider and each person has different priorities, but if I had the OLED model, I'd wait because of the LCD screen and battery life of Switch 2. By waiting I mean waiting for the next revision, because it is inevitable. We don't know what the upgrades will be, but at the very least, the battery life will be improved, probably using a more modern chip. Your model has significantly better battery life and an OLED screen with perfect contrast. That's assuming it's not always docked.

Hey guys just wondering for those pre-ordering who are you going with? I'm thinking best buy or Walmart. Do you know if they'll charge the full amount at the moment of preorder or when it actually ships?

Truegamer79

-Green-

@Truegamer79 I asked a Best Buy rep. When you make the pre-order they check if you have the necessary funding before the pre-order is completed. But they won't actually charge you until the Console is sent to you

I am going to try in-person at my GS and hope I get a chance for one preorder as they limit it to one for preorder. I will try to get Joy-Con2 charger and Pro if possible because I want to try out the GS, GL buttons.

Remember you have to have that amount in funds or they will cancel the preorder so there is a catch. Unless that is a CC then that different but you have to have the full amount they place a hold not a charge to verify the funds.

@Jester676
Okay so the cost for the basic console itself is 449.99. What would that be total once you factor in shipping and tax?

Truegamer79

@Truegamer79 Depends where you live; tax varies state to state.
