@Grumblevolcano
... but they're most definitely not going "all out" with DK as it is. I'd be surprised if many people outside the internet sphere even know about the port coming out next week lol
@rallydefault From the end of October onwards they added DKC 1 and 2 to Nintendo Music (with DKC3 confirmed for some point in the future), added DK Land 1-3 to NSO, had a Direct for the theme park expansion and then opened it, then they are releasing DKC Returns HD next week. That's a lot of DK in a small amount of time and it's possible there's more to come.
@Grumblevolcano
The Nintendo Music additions - that's swell, but even I didn't know about that and I have the app. 1 star
I did know about the NSO releases, but... yay? Meh? Would love to see play rate data on those lol 3 stars
Didn't watch the non-gaming Direct. Sorry. 1/2 star
Don't live in Japan or Florida. Trying to go to Disney/Universal/Nintendo next year for vacation to see the theme park, but it's costly. 1 star for now
I'm intentionally being a jerk, but like it or not, that's a pretty close breakdown to what I believe is the majority mindset when it comes to Nintendo news these days. It's all about the Switch 2. They're not gonna delay talking about it out of respect for a half-baked port on a console with declining sales.
On the subject of Switch 2 and release date predictions, I'm curious, how close do you think third-party games will release to their counterparts?
@Novamii Third party publishers were late to the party on Switch after the Wii U floundered. Coming off of 150m+ Switches sold, it's fair to assume there'll be more simultaneous releases. But we're in the latter half of PS5 and XSX lifecycles now. Chances are by Switch 2's third year we'll again see fewer simultaneous releases because...the Switch 2 is just a portable PS4 with extra bells a whistles.
Having 12GB of RAM in the Switch 2 is going to agitate developers in 2026 and beyond, much like how the Xbox Series S's 10GB of RAM annoys developers currently.
The guy who leaked the PS5 Pro release date said when the Switch 2 will be announced, as well as release date, price and what some launch titles could be. Here’s what he put up:
Announcement: January 17
Release: March 3
Launch titles: Mario Kart 9, Red Dead Redemption 2, an announcement for a new 3D Mario
Price (in Canada): $399 (basically $299 in the US)
I’m still somewhat skeptical about the March release date because if they’re planning to go with a similar release timeframe and schedule as the Switch (4-5 months), we’d get the reveal in January, but the announcement isn’t until March or April. And then the Switch 2 gets put up with a release date in late May or early June.
And with the Switch 2’s extra power, I expect the price to go up somewhere between $399 and $499, at least in the US.
Since we're all over-hyping with leaks, it's occasionally good to get a reality check outside of our bubble. Most people do not know or care about Switch 2.
A funny thing on Twitch today: a chat I was in was asking a streamer if they would get Switch 2. The streamer's first reaction was 'there is a new one, but isn't Switch pretty recent?'. Second reaction was to Google Switch 2, see the leaked image which they assumed was official and say 'it looks almost the same, no thanks'.
This is someone who streams games on Twitch so it's not like asking a non gamer or something.
Just one random story, but it still made me think and have a little bit of a sanity check. On the one hand it showed a direct negative reaction to the leaks/Nintendo not controlling the narrative, but on the other hand it showed how little most people have likely noticed them.
This will be my last post for a quite while, I promise this time!
It's good to see that more and more has regained back their senses now. Those people who frequents on Nintendo forums on internet only makes a tiny percentage of the actual Switch user base.
Mostly of them (outside those who frequents on internet) will just patiently waiting until Nintendo announces it while those whiny ones on internet wants it NOW, NOW and NOW! Many of them still are pretty much clueless about the fuss surrounding "Switch 2" since they doesn't uses internet in the same way. They just plays for the fun.
It must be exhausting to obsessing over a silly videogame for 24/7 which still haven't been announced yet!
It's also so tragically that so many people trusts on all those "leakers", "streamers", "youtubers", tik-tokers", "trenders" etc rather than Nintendo itself, it's they who develops the console and its games!
@Keman maybe it’s a good idea if you take a break from the Internet or Nintendolife in general.
If gaming news, rumours leaks annoy you or gaming fans and enthusiast who like to discuss upcoming tech and rumours. It’s only for your best interest to avoid gaming sites
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
It's interesting how while some Switch 1 era patterns fell apart (e.g. 2024 didn't have a September Direct), some stayed accurate. In the end Nintendo didn't do a general Direct or Switch 2 reveal this week because they wanted all eyes on Splatoon 3 FrostyFest which is currently taking place.
We'll see next week whether the 1st party game release theory also stays accurate (no general Direct or Switch 2 reveal because they want all eyes on DKC Returns HD).

UPDATE: The guy admitted on the GTA forum that he made it up. I don’t have the like to the GTA forum post on that, but the My Nintendo News page regarding the leak updated it to mention that.
As expected. Why would it even come out on a Monday? Also the release timeframe from January to March is so short. My expectations for when the Switch 2 could come out are still set between late May and early June, but at this point I’d be fine with a September or November release.
@NinChocolate
I've been saying it's going to be next week, but people are poo-pooing it because of the DKC port
I don't think it can't be next week and I don't think DKCR matters as much as some people seem to think. But these things are planned in advance.
They picked the week of DKCR knowing when they would announce Switch 2. If the announcement was next week presumably they would've put the release of DKCR on some other date. Or so the theory goes
Honestly I think the only reason to think it's next week now is because next week is next week. Or I guess if you want to be contrarian. It's certainly possible and, IMO, way more likely than a release in March. But of the three weeks left in Jan I don't know why you would pick the only one with a game launch
I would like next week but I don't see any reason it would be next week rather than one of the two later weeks in January. Unless the actual launch is going to be super soon.
