While we're on the subject of release dates, is anyone actually going to buy the new system on release or wait until later? Personally, I might hold off until its second or maybe third year(assuming there aren't any hardware revisions).
@N00BiSH I'm definitely buying on release day even though I never have before. My almost 8 year old Switch is getting rickety so I need an upgrade before it breaks. Plus there are a few games I decided are nigh unplayable on Switch because of insanely long loading screen so I expect them to be much better on Switch 2 since loading times should be the one thing which consistently improves. Also I'm just getting tired of every single Switch game saying 'almost good but there are performance issues'
@N00BiSH
If you had asked me this question before I replaced my rickety launch Switch with an OLED back in January? Without question day 1, even if just for playing Switch games. If you had asked me this a few months ago before the Steam Deck became available in Australia? Also, without question, yes for day 1 even just so I had a more capable portable
But now I have both a Steam Deck and an OLED? It's trickier. If it was out today? No, I wouldn't be getting it. Honestly I wouldn't be getting it until at least April now under any circumstances. From April to September or so? I might get it if there's some compelling first party release I can't play on Switch. Or if there are enough such titles to pull me over the line. And that may happen on day 1
But even so, I think under any circumstances I still buy it before the end of next year
@N00BiSH I'm unlikely to get one at launch - depends if my son gets it at launch.
I was sharing a V2 Switch with my daughter until recently, but I've now inherited my son's old V1 (with dodgy fan) to use exclusively - he's got an OLED. If my son decides to buy Switch2 at launch I'll probably buy his OLED from him and use that for maybe a year or so before getting Switch2. If he decides not to get it at launch I'll probably make do until the V1 dies and replace with Switch2
I don’t see any scenario where I don’t buy the Switch 2 at launch. Reason, I don’t have any other systems. I’m ready for a more powerful device, and I’m really hoping that the Elden Ring launch rumors are true 😀. If there’s a delay (2026 launch) then I might be compelled to go with a steam deck…
@N00BiSH For me it's not about running better, it's about running at least the same (better is a bonus). So my general setup is:
Backwards compatibility handled poorly - Skip at launch
Backwards compatibility handled well but new 1st party games are crossgen - Skip at launch unless specific 3rd party titles appear (e.g. FFVII Remake, Tomb Raider Survivor Trilogy, Indiana Jones)
Backwards compatibility handled well and there's 1st party Switch 2 exclusives - Buy day 1
@MrCarlos46 I obviously didn't look at the pics properly - it's a silicone case for the switch rather than the actual colour of the console. 🤦♂️
Yeah, I would have told you as well but I thought of it more as a potential model color and not just as a silicone case
I’m pretty sure Switch 2 will also have a color option at launch along with either a black, grey or white option, just like how the Switch had Neon Blue/Neon Red and Grey options at launch
@skywake I'm in a similar boat with an OLED. I'm working on building a PC (eventually...) to get all of the non-nintendo goodness in my life, but a compelling first-party lineup will likely see me buy the console in '25 at some point. New 3D Mario and one or two more titles and I'll be there.
Honestly at this point I won’t be upset if it ends up looking like a Switch but with an improved aesthetic and some new buttons. It’s the internals and new features that make it stand out from the original, along with its lineup of launch games.
