@PsychoIsaac They are, I didn't say that. However calling SNES, 64 and Zero the same game, or remakes of the one game, is also disingenuous.
If we follow that logic, Ocarina of Time is A Link to the Past in 3D. Get three stones, Master Sword, dark world, tower, play tennis with Ganon, fight Ganon.

I think Zelda sort of stands out because the 'repeating' continuity is tied up with the weird branching timeline lore and hero of hyrule reincarnation legend.
5 star fox games follow the same story beats and largely the same progression through the same Lylat system planets. I'm not saying they are all identical, but they are covering a lot of the same ground over and over again with basically no story or continuity progression which makes it feel stale and worn out to me.
Others arguing with me were trying to say that's the same as any sequel that retains similar gameplay which just isn't a good faith point.
@PsychoIsaac I don’t really know much about starfox, but from the outsider point of view, it does indeed look like they’re remaking the same story a little bit too often. Whether that may be true or not.
While with Zelda, even though you could argue that ALttP, OoT, and maybe even TP are rethreads of the same gameplay style and structure, the games do feel distinct enough at a glance.
It's not an entirely fair comparison because Zelda games are so much longer and thus have more room to innovate, but if OOT was more like Star Fox Zero, it would need to start with Link with his uncle, an escape with Zelda, all the temples to be the same name and general vibe in both, and double down on quick action based movement and half the amount of times the current dungeon item is needed and overall have less story and have more elements of being a deliberate throwback, occasionally to the point of feeling pandering.
Also OOT should had a core gameplay gimmick previously only seen in Zelda 2, of course.
It still wouldn't work because every Star Fox is 3D, while being 3D was the defining innovation of OOT, but it'd be in a closer ballpark.
@PsychoIsaac Star Fox is the same thing as what you're describing tbh. If you're not feeling a game, you don't have to keep contributing to the discussion.

@ElRoberico I'm not following this thread or discussions on this site obsessively enough to know what topic happened when or who started them or whose pot got 'stirred' in the process.
I came to voice my position.
Agree or disagree, that's just something you will have to deal with.
@Eel
yeah It does feel like there's enough story and implied continuity in both Zelda and Starfox to make a distinction between how both franchises handle this kind of thing, Zelda seeming to have a whole "(nearly) everything is canon!" outlook with timeline shenanigans and Starfox periodically rebooting itself.
I definitely am more than cool with them rebooting it again with the switch considering it would be a good jumping on point for many people, and if it does well enough then it would be cool to see a followup treading fresh ground when it comes to its overall story.
One thing im curious on seeing how its handled with the additional story stuff...
One of my fave moments in the original was at the end of the Hard route when you had to follow a vision of James Mcloud out of the exploding base on vemon while that absolute banger of a boss theme was playing in the background, one thing i liked about the whole thing and the scene which followed was how little dialogue or exposition there actually was during it, just some encouragement from James and then after the whole sequence fox responding with "nothing..." when asked by peppy whats bothering him, it felt like it managed to convey a lot using very little, its definitely something im interested to see during the remake, that and how nightmarish Andross will be (in either form)
