Just rolled credits, such a fun game. This is definitely up there as one of the best RE games, and is my personal favorite. Haven’t played the remakes, or code veronika, so I will hold off on saying that it’s my favorite until those come onto Switch.
As for performance, Raccoon City and beyond performed fantastic. A few frame drops here and there, but solid in handheld. This is the first game in quite a while that I want to dive back into. I didn’t find everything, so I would like to do a 100% run. Really want to unlock infinite ammo, then try nightmare. I played on classic difficulty, so maybe run 2 will be on easy mode…going for the 4 hour mark.
Also, I suck as Leon. Died so many times with him. I didn’t think it would be that hard with him, but it was humbling.
GUYS, breaking news! Capcom fixed the hair!! I was showing the game to my brother earlier today and it’s very different to when I played. Great work, Capcom!
Finally began playing this today — on PS5, I admit — but having an absolute blast in these first opening hours.
Grace’s sections are brilliant; they did make me jump on a couple of occasions and Leon’s sections have just hit that nostalgia nerve so hard. Excited to see what lies ahead!
"A corpse, should be left well alone. Oh, I know very well how the secrets beckon so sweetly. Only an honest death will cure you now. Liberate you from your wild curiosity."
The game is still sold out in my area. Best Buy and Walmart Canada’s sites are out of stock. For some reason the game is $5 more on the eShop as well compared to the gkc.
Just completed the sniping section, iykyk, and it is peak!

I've been playing on PC and I've just started a Switch 2 playthrough.
No spoilers - On PC, I'm a couple hours into the Leon focused area/chapter, up in a building with glass to keep plot/location vague.
Initial impressions is that it doesn't feel as tight as RE4 Remake. I don't love the upgrade system and the environment is, at least initially, pretty meh. I can see the RE makeup, with the ability to unlock different areas but I'm not enjoying it as much as I would thought. Enemy variety could be better. Maybe this all changes and grows as I progress.
I loved the beginning chapters and how effective the game swaps between Grace and Leon. The Care Centre may also be my favourite location in an RE game since 4's village, 7's baker's mansion, or 8's castle.
Since I don't have a ton of time at my PC, I started my Switch 2 (handheld) playthrough. Yes, I double dipped. I've just completed the Leon chainsaw segment. Framerate dropped pretty low a few times when the walls were covered in giblets and blood, but either than that, it holds up REAL well on Switch 2.
I think gyro controls only control the Y-axis when aiming, which is a shame, I couldn't make micro-adjustments on the X-axis to line up some headshots. Edit* I lowered sensitivity to about 3/10 on the gyro and I've found it really helps. Still can't get X-axis to work properly.
The game looks absolutely stunning on both platforms. I'll await giving my overall sentiments until I beat a playthrough. I could see my impressions remaining high (9/10) or dropping (8/10) depending on the Leon segments.
Absolutely fantastic game. The ONLY drawback section for me was the detonator area and particularly the COD zombies spot. This area should have been saved for an extra game mode. It was entirely too long, served nothing to the story/world building etc. It also just randomly placed the most difficult part of the game midway through. The abrupt change in playstyle needed to complete the area is completely off putting. Everything before and after it, including all boss fights, are nowhere near as difficult as this area basically placing some players into a spot where you have to put up with it just to finish the game. I do get why they did it, with serving fan service for RE4 fanatics. I'd argue though that it missed that point as well as the areas in RE4 had more flow to fight through.

I think we're talking about the same spot. If so, I'm glad to hear it picks up after
@Hwatt This part made me seriously question my skill - I had a difficult time with it. Fun but pretty hard. Basically had to do most battles a few times to survive it.
Just rolled credits. Absolutely fantastic game. I think it’s the best Resident Evil game since RE4.
Really enjoyed playing as both Grace and Leon as I thought the changes of pace throughout the story kept things really fresh and it was great going from being stealthy and timid with Grace to being an absolute zombie killing demon with Leon.
There were a few parts I thought were a little tough. I found the section with the elite commanders really difficult but I think part of that came down to me only having one med injector and not so much ammo.
Also, the part in the orphanage with the children really freaked me out.
I thought the game was fantastic. May double dip and pick it up on Switch 2 as well just for funsies but we’ll see. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Just got all challenges completed earlier today.
Insanity would normally be extremely difficult, but it didn’t feel too bad after I unlocked infinite ammo/RPG.
To help unlock it, doing a no healing/no blood collecting and a speed run on casual should help give a lot of points towards that. No healing can be tricky at times, but on casual if you get hit into the red range, it will heal back to about half after a few seconds. (Try to rush through most things for the speed run and make use of multiple save slots as a backup. I was just seconds over the time when trying to shave it down so I had to use an older save to shave more time off)
Also I can’t say for certain, but I think the most recent update has caused more frame rate drops in handheld mode… hope that can be fixed soon, along with changing gyro in handheld mode as turning to the sides doesn’t really work in comparison to TV mode.
@yokokazuo This is the first time I attempt a no healing in a game and the "no healing/no blood collecting" was actually easy on casual. And I killed most things as well, even if I did not craft as Grace
That gave the the credits to get infinite ammo but I need to work on the infinite RPG because I think I have to get the RPG from the credit store as well.

My Sculptures
A week later, I've carved out more progress on Switch 2. I'm at the scene shown in one of the pre-release trailers where Victor shouts "GRAAAAAAACE"
This game plays extremely well in handheld. It's a bit of a shame the frame rate drops when a few zombies are on screen. It's probably not that low, but you feel it go from 60 to say 35-40 pretty quickly. Not ideal when you're trying to line up a shot with the requiem but it's manageable to work around.
I'm still very impressed this game runs this well and looks this good. I played for about 30mns, my battery went from 86% to around 60% and it never felt like I was playing a inferior game.
I'm curious to go back to my PC save file, just to get through this Leon segment (generators) I am in and I sincerely hope it picks up after. I also have a massive itch / craving to play Resident Evil Village. RE is rotting my brain...
@Hwatt I've been playing through RE8 after beating 7 then 9, almost entirely in handheld, and it plays great. I've read some reviews knocking the performance in 8, but it's been pretty fantastic to my untrained eyes. I'm really enjoying 8, a lot. It's just a fun action game, with interesting environments and cool boss fights. RE 9 is better, but 8 is fantastic at what it does.
When playing handheld, I've noticed the worst framerates happen at the lounge area of the care center, for whatever reason.
Perhaps that piano is super detailed or something.
The bar within the parlour room is also very taxing. Maybe all the geometry, reflections, and light bounces all on all the items is just too much. Both locations have a bar so could be the source of system torture

Nice! I only have it on PC and I have surprisingly only beat it once. My run was 13hrs according to my save file and 3 hours for the DLC. Steam says I have almost 60 hours in the game. Why? Mercenaries mode. I absolutely love RE8’s mercenary mode. Chaining combos and fine tuning runs are super fun. The DLC also added new characters which I assume are available on Switch 2 as well. Give it a go when you can! I am only missing SSS rank on 2 out of the 8 levels
@Hwatt I am 100% planning to do the DLC/Mercenaries after beating the game. Given how fun the combat is in game, I can only imagine how much fun the Mercenary mode is. Plus - I haven't gotten into something like that since RE4 on the Gamecube . I think I am approaching, or am at the 13 hour mark - I really like to take my time with these games, and still can't believe that I'm playing games on a Switch that look so good (in handheld!).
And just wait until the sniping section with Leon - it was a slideshow in handheld. If you can, dock it for that section and cross your fingers that it plays better. But that's really the only part that was bad - everything after ran pretty good.
I updated the game after getting through the Care Center (but before the sniping section), and really never experienced frame issues in those sections, maybe a blip here and there, but it seems like the update hurt the game more than it helped.
Completed my playthroughs on both PS5 and Switch 2, doing a second run on the latter now. Absolutely phenomenal game. Don't want to say exactly where I rank it among my other favorites yet because this is all still pretty fresh but it's definitely up there. RE 2 on N64 is my favorite game of all-time after that my other top RE entries, in order, are Code Veronica, 1 Remake, 7 and 4. I think when all is said and done, this one will slide into the top 3, knock on the door of taking down CV for no. 2.
The balance of horror and action is extremely well done, enjoyed playing as Leon slightly more but Grace is a great new addition to the series and her sections were very fun, too. The NS2 port itself is extremely well done, Capcom really knows how to push this console and the portability aspect means, just like with Street Fighter 6, this version of Requiem will be the one I play the most.
